The rain that caused widespread damage in Rio de Janeiro has mobilized not only the authorities, but all residents of the state are also involved and committed to helping the victims of the floods and landslides in some way. Whether through prayers, donations, or campaigns, participation is important. Flamengo chose the latter option and was praised by its players.

When announcing the food drivePresident Patricia Amorim called on the Flamengo fans for help. However, she received more support, coming from within the club.

"The campaign that Flamengo is carrying out is just a grain of sand on a beach. It's a fantastic initiative, especially because it serves as an example for others. Hopefully, more people will be willing to help the victims of the rain. It's a very difficult time," said Álvaro.

The defender also revealed that during their pre-match concentration, since the beginning of the week, the players had been following all the news about the tragedies caused by the rain. In fact, they even thought the match wouldn't take place.

"All the players were shocked by the tragedy that this rain brought to Rio de Janeiro. We even thought that the game couldn't happen, out of respect for the deaths. But then we thought that we could bring a little joy to the people. Flamengo has that power," he said.

Now a professional player, Álvaro said that he had experienced similar situations in the past, when he lived with his grandmother.

"My son asked me today why nobody was leaving their house. I explained it to him and reminded him of when he was little and lived in a shack with his grandmother. I remember she wouldn't leave the house for anything, even if there was some risk, for fear of losing what little she had. I think people think like that. That's why they end up in danger of being in high-risk areas. I understand that very well," he concluded.

Flamengo had already put together a campaign to help victims of the Haiti earthquake, this year, and it was a great success.
