Fla bets on a change of level with TV
The club expects revenue of around R$4,5 million per month, almost four times the Petrobras sponsorship.

Launched yesterday, FlaTV is Flamengo's most important investment in its quest to make a qualitative leap forward in football. The club's official online TV channel allows Flamengo to pursue its millionaire dreams and invest in the future and fulfill its commitments in 2008.
Flamengo is proposing a partnership to its fans. The monthly subscription to FlaTV will cost R$12. The 4 million views of the experimental version in one week have led the club to set a target of 500 subscribers. At this level, 75% of the revenue would go to the club, generating monthly revenue of R$4,5 million, less taxes and agency commissions. The estimated value is four times the amount paid for the Petrobras sponsorship. The cost of implementing the TV channel, which will have a studio in Gávea, will be covered by DB4, a partner in the project.
Club rushes to put reinforcements on the field
Of the total proceeds, 50% will go to Flamengo's football team, 10% to the players and coaching staff, the main players on the TV channel, and 15% will be allocated to investments in the club. FlaTV's first objective is to enable the outright purchase of midfielder Ibson, who belongs to Porto, in June. According to the player's father, Laís Souza, there is no set amount for the deal. However, the club has other immediate needs. According to José Carlos Dias, Flamengo's vice president of finance, FlaTV is counting on FlaTV to pay the remaining installments for the purchase of 75% of goalkeeper Bruno, a percentage of full-back Leonardo Moura, and the ongoing negotiations to renew Obina's contract.
"Without FlaTV, it's possible to fund the current squad, but with some sacrifices. But there are alternatives. In 2008, we'll see an increase in TV fees and a renegotiation of sponsorship contracts. FlaTV will force us to invest even more," the executive said.
Whenever the coaching staff allows, the TV will broadcast live training sessions and team talks. It will also be live inside the training camp, the team bus, and the locker room on game days. Each week, it will follow a player for a day.
"Even I, who play, am curious. Imagine the fans. I think it's cool, especially in the training camp. But no one comes into my house," joked defender Rodrigo.
FlaTV's first live broadcast was the presentation of Diego Tardelli. He wore the number 11 jersey, which "belonged to the red-and-black Romário," as vice-president of football Kleber Leite noted. Tardelli apologized to Souza again and spoke of his plans:

The up to 50% increase in ticket prices for Rio State Championship matches, which begins tomorrow, continues to generate controversy. Yesterday, it was the Consumer Protection Commission of the Rio State Legislative Assembly (Alerj)'s turn to take action. The body filed a public civil lawsuit with the 3rd Business Court of the Rio State Court of Justice, demanding that ticket prices remain the same as in 2007 until the clubs present a cost plan demonstrating the need for the increase.
Earlier this week, the Secretary of Tourism, Sports and Leisure and president of Suderj, Eduardo Paes, had already threatened to increase Maracanã fees if the clubs insisted on the increase.

Fla TV aims to break audience records
FlaTV launched yesterday, covering everything that happens behind the scenes at Flamengo. The red-and-black television channel has been available on the club's official website since January 3rd, but is still in the testing phase. Newly arrived at Flamengo, striker Diego Tardelli, formerly of São Paulo, said he would accept sharing a room in the training camp with fellow striker Souza, with whom he exchanged barbs in the press.
"I would happily share a room with Souza. I would even like him to be here with the whole group. It was a misunderstanding on everyone's part, Souza's and mine, and I apologize again. I don't want to hurt anyone and I'm here to be one more," said Tardelli in his official presentation.
The controversy began when Tardelli, still at São Paulo, said it would be a dream to form a strike partnership with Ronaldo at Flamengo. Souza felt slighted and said Tardelli had to earn a place on the team. He also pointed out that the former São Paulo player had never been the top scorer in the Brazilian Championship, as Souza was in 2006.
Tardelli even issued a "rebuttal" by stating that "it would be strange to say that my dream was to play with Souza." And, even after the controversy, the newly arrived striker once again asked for Ronaldo.
"Ronaldo is a character, a renowned guy and I, as well as all Flamengo fans, hope to see Ronaldo here," said Tardelli.

Flamengo's vice president of marketing, Ricardo Hinrichsen, stated that the Rio de Janeiro club will present a new proposal within 15 days to try to sign striker Ronaldo, from Milan.
On Sunday, Ronaldo scored twice and was one of Milan's standout performers in their 5-2 Serie A victory over Napoli. According to Flamengo's director, the player's strong performance could pave the way for a potential transfer.
"It's much easier to get a sponsor with Ronaldo [playing] well. If he starts scoring goals again, it will make our job easier. It's easier now than before," Hinrichsen told Rádio Brasil.
At the end of last year, upon learning of Flamengo's interest in Ronaldo, who has a contract until June 2008, Milan issued an official statement denying that it was releasing the player to arrange his return to Brazilian football.
With Milan's refusal, Flamengo's directors hope to sign a pre-contract and bring the athlete to Gávea in the second half of this year.
