Timemania: ticket sales begin today at lottery outlets
Lula and Pelé participate in the launch of bets to save the clubs

BRASILIA. Surrounded by top Brazilian soccer officials, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva launched Timemania yesterday in a ceremony at the Planalto Palace, also attended by the lottery's poster boy, Pelé. Timemania, created by the federal government to bail out indebted teams, went on sale yesterday at Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF) lottery outlets. According to Caixa president Maria Fernanda Ramos Coelho's forecast, Timemania is expected to raise R$520 million in its first year.
Of the total, R$239 million will be used to pay out prizes to bettors. Another R$114 million—22% of the proceeds—will go to the 98 teams that participated in Timemania, to pay their tax debts to the federal government, including Social Security, the Federal Revenue Service, and the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS). The clubs' debts were divided into up to 240 monthly installments, and the Timemania funds can only be used for other purposes after the entire debt is paid off.
Pelé and Teixeira agree to meeting about the 2014 World Cup
Clubs will be compensated for the use of their image. Each year, teams must renew their debt payment certificates with creditor agencies. The first Timemania draw will be held on March 1st in São Paulo, with a television broadcast.
Although known as a soccer fan, Lula did not deliver a speech at the ceremony, which was instead given by Sports Minister Orlando Silva and the president of Caixa Econômica Federal. Silva emphasized that all teams eligible to participate in Timemania had signed an agreement with the CEF, committing to keeping their finances in order.
"Timemania is a recognition of the importance of football to our people. Football is an instrument of national unity and the country's identity in the world," the minister stated.
The club's executives celebrated the possibility of paying off their debts, some of which are unpayable, as Botafogo president Bebeto de Freitas said. According to him, the club owes more than R$100 million. They made a point of emphasizing that the lottery doesn't receive public funding.
"It's a smart solution that doesn't involve public resources. The government did its job, and now it's up to us to fulfill what we signed here," said Bebeto.
- It is necessary to examine it impartially and correctly: there are no public resources in Timenania - said the president of São Paulo, Juvenal Juvêncio, who spoke on behalf of the teams.
After thanking the federal government for its debt relief, the club officials urged the president and the minister to vote as quickly as possible on the bill that guarantees the youth team the players' first contracts. They argue that many wealthy European clubs are taking their top talents from the youth ranks, many under the age of 16, the age at which they can sign contracts, according to Brazilian law.
On his return from Brasília, in São Paulo, the president of the CBF, Ricardo Teixeira, and Pelé agreed to a meeting in the coming weeks to discuss the King of Football's participation in the organizing committee of the 2014 World Cup, which will be held in Brazil.
GB CUP FINAL: Defenders return to the club's origins, at the rowing headquarters
Lessons in heroism to prevent Flamengo from capsizing in the final
Fábio Luciano and Ronaldo Angelim celebrate partnership and goals against Vasco

The day after their 2-1 victory over Vasco, Flamengo woke up without power. Due to electrical repairs, Fábio Luciano and Ronaldo Angelim, the goalscorers, had to cross the street to see the light. At the rowing club's headquarters, the strength that gave rise to the club is inexhaustible. With the dirty water of the Lagoa up to his neck, an employee held the boat so the players would look good in the photo. During his impoverished childhood in Paraíba, José Cardoso de Santana ate cactus and drank urine before entering the Flamengo citizenship school. Proud of having raised his two daughters to university and become champions with the club, and of not having missed a single day of work in 33 years at Gávea, yesterday he acted like a priest by baptizing the defenders in the club's most heroic traditions.
"I arrived seven months ago, but it feels like I've been here for ten years. It's a club that demands the maximum. In all sports, you have to push yourself to the limit," said captain Fábio Luciano, who dislocated his arm after being kicked to the ground by Edmundo. "At the time, I thought I'd broken it. The doctor preferred to immobilize it, but I didn't want to; I have to train."
In 1980, wearing the same number three jersey, another São Paulo defender suffered a concussion and still tried to stay on the field in the first game of the Brazilian Championship final. Two years earlier, he had scored the header against Vasco da Gama that won the state title and paved the way for the club's golden era. For all this, Rondinelli became known as the God of Race. In the last derby, Fábio Luciano embodied the legend both for his sacrifice and for the style with which he invaded the box to equalize the game. Off the field, he still asks permission to enter the hall of heroes:
- To be an idol, I have to achieve something.
Ronaldo Angelim already has the Copa do Brasil and the most recent state championship, but only now, alongside his teammate, has he earned the fans' trust. Persistence has been with him since his birth in São Paulo, on one of his family's many trips to escape the drought in Ceará. Also due to the force with which he strikes the ball, Angelim is a typical stubborn person.
- They call me Iron Head. They say it looks like a kick. I've never trained, it's just innate.
The passion for Flamengo also runs in the family, although the derby against Vasco starts at home, in Juazeiro, where his father and two cousins are the only opponents.
- I called and said straight away: "Vice again, right dad?"
Fábio Luciano avoids irony. Respectfully, he admits to knowing little about the club's past glory. In Campinas, he watched Rio's football with the same attention that Rio de Janeiro residents pay to the Campeonato Paulista. To overcome this lag, he immediately consults the past with a speed unmatched by the internet.
"We have living history in the group," he said, referring to assistant coach Andrade, a world champion and four-time Brazilian champion. "Joel is also a great storyteller."
Bolognesi and Nacional play today for Flamengo's group
Almost as invisible to the football routine as he was in the photo, the rowing employee is also capable of conveying the Flamengo principles and watching over the goalscoring defenders. In 28 games for Flamengo, Fábio scored four goals. Angelim scored nine in 98.
- This Cardoso is a beast - said Fábio, grateful as he got out of the boat without getting wet.
With his uniform soaked in brackish water, the employee's soul was cleansed:
"It was good that they came to appreciate us; it all started with rowing. Flamengo isn't just the colors, it's the people. The soul of the club isn't in the paint, which fades away."
The metal of trophies endures. That's why Fábio Luciano is waiting for his contract to end to say he's achieved his goal of having his name immortalized. Before that, he can already be proud of having earned respect. When Flamengo was in the relegation zone, he returned from Turkish football, not for the chance to be near the sea or his friends:
- I came here to work.
On and off the field, his demeanor served as a foundation for the team's rebuilding. With him, the defense stopped conceding so many goals and criticism. Positive, he sees Flamengo in a position to move in the direction of the Corinthians, with whom they won the 2000 World Cup. In the Libertadores, Nacional, defeated in their opening match by Cienciano, plays in Tacna today against Coronel Bolgnesi, who drew with Flamengo. For the defender, the red-and-blacks' youth is their greatest asset in their collective development. Alone, Fábio Luciano doesn't want to go beyond Gávea:
- I no longer dream of being part of the national team. My thoughts are solely on Flamengo.
For Angelim and Cardoso, being at Flamengo is also enough. Despite the salary and visibility gap, they all dedicate themselves with equal energy. Yesterday, the power outage at the clubhouse made this situation even clearer. On the edge of the lagoon, the boat was pointing toward Botafogo's headquarters, on the opposite bank. If the boat doesn't capsize, the red-and-black tradition will celebrate its heroes on Sunday.
Gentlemen's duel
With mutual respect, Joel and Cuca take the battle between Fla and Botafogo to the field
Photo caption: JOEL SANTANA (left) and Cuca meet on the show and avoid provocations for Sunday's final
Rogério Daflon
If the two were in the ring, it would be a studied fight, in which the two boxers show immense respect for each other. In a TV studio, side by side, coaches Cuca and Joel Santana engaged in a conversation full of subtleties and punctuated by exchanges of compliments. Behind such gentleness, the two were measuring each word, avoiding controversy and fueling the fire of the Guanabara Cup final between Flamengo and Botafogo, next Sunday at the Maracanã—a game that, in itself, involves intense nervousness.
In a way, the two explained why they were so careful, remembering their supporter Thiago Neves. Joel was blunt:
"I put him at Fluminense. And he went too far; he lacked a bit of tact, especially with the professional who helped him so much. It was very arrogant to dance in front of our fans," said the Flamengo coach on the "Arena Sportv" program, referring to the player's choreography when celebrating one of his three goals in the tricolor's 4-1 rout of the red-and-black.
Túlio says Jorge Henrique should play
Cuca also criticized the player's stance, which demonstrated his desire for Fluminense to play in the Guanabara Cup final against Flamengo.
"He said he wanted to play the final with Flamengo because beating Flamengo was more enjoyable. He beat Botafogo and Vasco at the same time," Cuca said, adding that he didn't use that to motivate his team in the 2-0 victory over the Tricolor.
The Thiago Neves effect brought a certain shyness to the coaches, who maintained an excessively respectful discourse.
- I voted this beast here as the best coach of last year - said Cuca, pointing to Joel.
Joel, of course, replied:
- Cuca is a person of great quality. He's a strategist.
Each gesture was so studied that the scene became a little funny. From the top of the fence, the two only came down when they demonstrated their thirst for a title.
"Today, Flamengo fans don't just want a good campaign. The team already smells the perfume of a champion," said Joel.
Cuca also showed a keen sense of smell:
- I also smell the perfume of a champion and, God willing, we will smell that scent even stronger on Sunday.
Yesterday, it became clear that Lúcio Flávio and Ferrero, who are both experiencing muscle pain, will play in Sunday's final. With a right leg injury, Zé Carlos also expressed hope that he will recover for the final. Jorge Henrique's condition is more serious, with a strained left thigh. But yesterday, Túlio expressed optimism about the forward's starting lineup.
- Jorge Henrique is very excited about this final...
Botafogo has made a ticket package available, allowing you to buy tickets to the final and six of the team's games at the Engenhão in the Taça Rio for R$140,00. For more information, call Disque-Botafogo on (21) 2122-8020, from 9am to 21pm.

Final of the best
Flamengo and Botafogo will rematch, in the Guanabara Cup final, the duel that concluded last year's state championship. A very tight final between the two teams that were more efficient in the first round. A classic that would normally have no favorites, but could end up being lopsided if Zé Carlos and Jorge Henrique are unable to play. In that case, Cuca will have to perform a miracle...
The red-and-black squad is much more complete and allows Joel Santana a wide range of variations.
That's what we saw against Vasco, when the coach knew how to make changes at the right time, pushing the team forward and giving it new life - by swapping Tardelli for Marcinho, Kleberson for Obina and Jônatas for Cristian.
Cuca had to make every effort to replace two of his key players - and also see a third, Triguinho, sent off.
In all fairness, Botafogo was once again displaying some of the most eye-catching football in the league. It remains to be seen whether, ironically, with a weakened squad, they'll be able to win what they missed in 2007: the title. It has all the makings of a great game!
Flamengo is seeking investors willing to purchase 10% of the federation rights of all its youth players. It believes this is a good way to bolster its cash flow without losing its young players.

Fábio Luciano heaps praise on Ronaldo Angelim
Wallace Teixeira/JS
Defender Fábio Luciano, who scored Flamengo's first goal against Vasco, was full of praise for his defensive partner Ronaldo Angelim. In the Flamengo captain's opinion, Angelim is a true talent and he emphasizes the connection they had.
"I've played alongside great defenders, and Angelim is on that list. If someone asked me to name a player I identified with, I'd name him. They're both experienced, and we have the same way of positioning ourselves on the field," praised Fábio Luciano.
Together, Fábio Luciano and Ronaldo Angelim have already scored three goals in this Campeonato Carioca. The Flamengo number 3 scored in his debut against Boavista and against Vasco. His teammate scored the goal that qualified the team for the final of the Taça Guanabara.
Big daddy from Rio Grande do Sul vs. Big daddy from Rio Grande do Sul
Styles and fame that attract and separate the finalist coaches of the 2008 Guanabara Cup
Gabriel Branco, Jorge Lourenço and Nathan de Lima
One arrived calmly and ended up giving the teams he formed a unique character. The other took over amid a serious crisis: the team was on the verge of relegation to the Second Division. Today, Botafogo's Cuca and Flamengo's Joel Santana are the most prominent coaches in a Rio de Janeiro soccer scene that is regaining its former charm and prestige. Cuca, quite rightly, has a reputation for an attacking style. His opponent, on the other hand, has a reputation for being defensive, even though his team plays with full-backs who are true attackers. On Sunday, Cuca's Botafogo and Joel Santana's Flamengo will play the Guanabara Cup for the third time in history (see article below). And it's no coincidence that the teams coached by both teams reach the final with the best records among the 16 participating clubs. And, regardless of the outcome, both will continue to maintain their reputation.
From conversation to conversation with the team
Every coach from the South has a reputation for being tough. But that's not the case with Cuca. When he arrived at Botafogo in May 2006, he had no idea what lay ahead for him at the club. Perhaps he didn't even know he'd earn the label "father figure" among his players. But that's how they see him, especially Wellington Paulista.
"The first difference I noticed in Cuca compared to other coaches I've worked with in the past was his open style, a coach who talks to the players," explains the striker.
"Cuca is a real father figure. He knows how to be nice to us at the right time, but he also knows when to push us. And when he pushes us, it's a lot!" joked Wellington, who spoke about the importance of having a coach with this style.
"When a player steps onto the field with a coach like him in charge, he puts his heart into his boot even more. Besides playing for the love of the club, he also plays with the coach in mind, who is always there supporting him," he said.
Cuca's reputation as a "father figure" highlights the similarity between him and his opponent in the Guanabara Cup final, Joel Santana. However, there's a fundamental difference between them: their playing style. While Santana has a reputation for playing defensively, Cuca has a reputation for playing with a highly offensive team, always prioritizing passing.
Last year, with Zé Roberto and Dodô shining, he was responsible for assembling the team that became known as the Alvinegro Carrossel. This year, Botafogo's only star may be the one on its crest, but the attacking style remains.
It remains to be seen whether he will be able to overcome Flamengo's defensive wall in the final of the Taça Guanabara.
Scolding and joking in the right dose
It's rare to find someone who doesn't like Joel Santana. A champion in all four major Rio de Janeiro clubs, the coach manages to form a connection with the colors of each team he's managed. His time at Flamengo is no different, and in the eight months he's been at the helm, he's already earned the players the characteristic nickname "Daddy Joel."
Ibson, one of the great highlights of this Flamengo that Joel formed, told JORNAL DOS SPORTS that he is a different coach, because he knows the right time to act and that is why he wins everyone over.
"He's very calm and playful. He jokes when he can and is serious when necessary. Joel is the kind of coach who, wherever he goes, wins over players and always has the team in his hands. He gives everyone opportunities, talks to everyone, and doesn't prioritize anyone. He's a real father figure," said Ibson.
But Joel Santana's many titles don't make him unanimous among fans. He's met with many criticisms from the experts. The biggest one is that he's too defensive and prioritizes a style of football considered ugly in Brazil. However, his players disagree. They believe his reputation is unfair and the criticism is unfounded:
"I completely disagree with this label. Flamengo, for example, plays with two very attacking full-backs. Jônatas, Toró, and I mark, but we have very attacking characteristics. Our two center-backs and Jaílton are truly defensive. Even so, Angelim provides a lot of support, with Juan on the left, and Jaílton also goes forward when necessary. At Flamengo, at least, this reputation of being defensive is unfounded," added Ibson, who played for Porto in Portugal, in addition to Flamengo.
Rough seas are not yet completely overcome
After the storm caused by the loss to Fluminense in the Campeonato Carioca and the draw with Coronel Bolognese in the Copa Libertadores, the red-and-black team seems to be swimming in calmer waters after the victory over Vasco. Now, the goal is to defeat Botafogo next Sunday. However, the players know that rough seas await them.
"If these teams reached the final, it's because they have quality and worked hard. Of course, we want to win, but we know the match won't be easy," commented Ronaldo Angelim.
"Both teams are the most consistent and deserve to compete in the final. We have to respect Botafogo, which is a great team," said Fábio Luciano.
The two defenders held a press conference yesterday afternoon at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas. After speaking with reporters, they entered the water in a Flamengo rowing team boat. Using one of the oars, Fábio Luciano, who suffered a dislocated right arm, proved he is not a doubt for the final.
"We're not sure yet who will play for Botafogo. They're having some problems, so we don't know who will take the field. It'll be a close game," he added.
Campaign for the Phenomenon
His raised index finger, constantly moving, is his trademark celebration. Nike, Flamengo's sportswear supplier and sponsor, is using this gesture to promote a global campaign to support striker Ronaldo, "The Phenomenon," as he faces another difficult moment in his career.
The campaign, titled Never Give Up, aims to encourage athletes from teams sponsored by the North American company to celebrate their goals in the same way that Ronaldo does, thus showing that their colleagues believe in another comeback.
In Brazil, the first to join the campaign was Flamengo defender Fábio Luciano. After scoring the first goal in Sunday's 2-1 victory over Vasco, the Flamengo captain stretched out his index finger and waved it, much like Milan's number 99.
"I celebrated the goal by imitating Ronaldo's gesture because it was the way I found to give him strength to overcome another difficult moment in his career. He's a successful athlete, admired by every soccer player, and an example of overcoming adversity. He'll bounce back. He'll remain victorious as always; he won't want to end his career injured," believes Fábio Luciano.
However, Nike's initiative isn't expected to be limited to domestic competitions. Organizers hope to expand the campaign worldwide, particularly in traditional competitions like the UEFA Champions League, which is currently in the round of 16. Ronaldo has a lifetime contract with Nike, and one of the company's headquarters buildings in Beaverton, USA, is named after him.
Armored and tuned central defense duo

Synchronized on land and sea, Fábio and Ronaldo form a duo of defenders and goalscorers
Examples of the well-known red-and-black race, defenders Ronaldo Angelim and Fábio Luciano, scorers of Flamengo's goals in last Sunday's derby, seem to form an armored duo. The former is called "Iron Head" by his teammates, thanks to the power of his headers.
The second gained a reputation as the team's arm wrestler, since, despite suffering a dislocation in the area, he remained on the field until the end of the match.
However, the vigor displayed against opponents gives way to kindness and the exchange of compliments.
"I've played with some of the greatest defenders in world football, and Ronaldo Angelim is one of them. We're very experienced, the same age, and he's incredibly talented with the ball at his feet. He supports well and works in a triangulating way with Juan like few others. He was also the head chef and welcomed me warmly when I arrived," commented Fábio Luciano, who has played 29 games for the club and scored four goals.
Unable to contain his joy at having scored the winning goal against his biggest rival, his ninth in 98 matches for the red and black shirt, Ronaldo Angelim thanked his teammate for the praise and made a point of praising the work of the entire squad.
"A player doesn't achieve success alone. The group has to be successful for the players to shine," the defender emphasized, explaining why he's known as the "iron head of Gávea."
"They call me that because I practice headers, and they're very powerful. Goalkeeper Diego gave me that nickname. He knows that if they let me head the ball freely, like on Sunday, it'll be very difficult to save," says the defender, with evident happiness in his eyes.
Few changes in sight
Joel should keep the lineup that defeated Vasco, with Toró returning to midfield

Joel is expected to make just one change for Sunday: the return of Toró
Despite Flamengo's success since Joel Santana took over midway through last year's Brazilian Championship, a portion of the Flamengo fans and some critics continue to complain about the tactical scheme and, especially, the coach's choices. During the victory against Vasco in the Guanabara Cup semifinals, some players, such as Jaílton, Jônatas, and Diego Tardelli, were heavily questioned. But contrary to speculation, the coach is unlikely to change his lineup for Sunday's decisive match against Botafogo.
The only change that should happen is the departure of Kleberson and the entry of midfielder Toró, who is returning from injury.
The other speculated substitutions, such as the departure of Jônatas and Tardelli, to be replaced by Cristian and Marcinho, respectively, are highly unlikely. Jonatas's is especially unlikely, as with him, not only will Flamengo's midfield marking remain strong, but the team will also benefit from creative play, as his key strengths include good passing and long balls.
Feature
Joel Santana has almost made it a rule, throughout his long and successful career, to change few pieces in his teams, especially when they “fit” as he himself likes to say.
While the starters were given the whole day off yesterday, the players who did not play in last Sunday's game against Vasco joined the athletes recovering from injuries and carried out physical training yesterday morning at the Windsor Hotel in Barra da Tijuca.
Volta
Midfielder Rômulo, who was a starter last year and suffered a serious knee ligament injury during the Brazilian Championship, will return to ball training this afternoon, but is unlikely to be fit to play on Sunday against Botafogo.
This morning, all players will participate in a physical activity at Leblon Beach.
Angelim hopes for the recovery of Jorge Henrique and Zé Carlos
Flamengo defender wants to face Botafogo in full on Sunday
Flamengo will face Botafogo in the Guanabara Cup final next Sunday. The Gávea team promises to go all out for another title, but Cuca's team is struggling. The black-and-white coach doesn't know if he'll be able to count on Jorge Henrique and Zé Carlos, both injured, and already knows that Triguinho, suspended, is out of the match.
Even so, Flamengo defender Ronaldo Angelim expects the opponent to have all their players available. In the Flamengo defender's opinion, this will make the derby even more competitive and valuable.
"I hope both teams are complete because then the fans are the ones who win. We have to try to do our part, with humility and hard work. We're going to face an opponent that is doing very well, just like Flamengo, and I'm sure it will be a great game," said Angelim, in a press conference held this afternoon at Flamengo's rowing headquarters in Lagoa.
Joel Santana says Fla deserved the victory
Coach guarantees that his team has been the best in the GB Cup
Coach Joel Santana was thrilled with the victory over Vasco last Sunday. After the match, Natalino stated with conviction that Flamengo fully deserved the result and its place in the final. According to the coach, Flamengo was superior to Vasco for almost the entire match.
"It was a tough game, like every championship final. It's a rivalry that's been going on for many years, and we managed to win a very difficult but deserved victory. If we analyze the game, you can see that we had a very strong dominance. Overall, I think we deserved it because we were the best in the qualifying phase. The players deserve congratulations, and so do the fans," Joel Santana told Rádio Bandeirantes.
Few decisions: One win for each team
Botafogo and Flamengo will face off this Sunday in their third Guanabara Cup final. Although they lead the tournament statistics with 17 wins, compared to their opponent's four, the two clubs are absolutely tied when it comes to deciding the two sides. The first time they faced each other, Botafogo won 4-1. The red-and-blacks only got their revenge in 1995, with a 3-2 victory, on a night in which top scorer Romário shone.
Botafogo won the title, defeating Flamengo in 1968. In the final round, the derby between the two clubs ended in a 0-0 draw. However, since Flamengo still had to face Bonsucesso, their victory was considered certain. However, the surprising 2-0 defeat forced an extra game, in which Botafogo, having had to interrupt a tour of the interior of Brazil, won 4-1, with goals from Gérson (two), Zequinha, and Roberto. Dionísio pulled one back.
The payback came in 1995, when the Guanabara Cup was simply a trophy to be fought for by the two best teams in the championship's qualifying round. Flamengo took the lead, with Romário scoring twice. Botafogo, relying on overcoming obstacles, managed to equalize with two goals from Adriano. But in the end, Romário's talent, who scored the winning goal, was the worthy winner.
In 1989, Flamengo won the championship and Botafogo finished runner-up, but there was no final decision. The winners had 19 points, one more than the runner-up, after 11 rounds.
The Taça Guanabara was played separately from the Campeonato Carioca or Rio State Championship between 1965 and 1971 and in 1980. Between 1972 and 1979, 1981 and 1993 and from 1996 onwards it was the first round of the major competition and in 1994 and 1995 it brought together the two best teams from a classification phase.
Flamengo holds the record for titles with 17, while Botafogo has only won four, but has always been state champion. Vasco (11), Fluminense (8) and América, Americano and Volta Redonda, one each, are the other champions.
Flamengo's titles were won in 1970, 1972, 1973, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1988, 1989, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2001, 2004 and 2007. Botafogo's: 1967, 1968, 1997 and 2006.

Long live dancing at Maraca

There was a time when Flamengo was Botafogo's rival. Then Zico came along, and the advantage in the match shifted. The black and whites were left with the joy of always claiming victory in decisive matches. And then came the 92 Brazilian Championship and last year's State Championship, changing things a bit as well – it's true that the last game of the Brazilian Championship and the regional final ended in a draw, but the title went to Gávea on both occasions.
Flamengo currently not only has more wins in head-to-head matches, but is also 13 games unbeaten against Botafogo. Since March 14, 2004, when Botafogo won 1-0, there have been three draws (3-0, 0-0, and 0-2), five wins (2-5, 2-0, 3-1, 3-2, and 2-0), and five other draws (1-0, 5-3 three times, and 3-2). In other words, Flamengo has not lost to Botafogo since July 2, 1, and in the last match, Souza even missed a penalty.
On the black and white side, Flamengo hasn't beaten Botafogo since February 11, 2007, a little over a year, when the draw began. On Sunday, if that result comes to pass, the match will go to penalties, just like in last year's State Championship. The funny thing is, if Botafogo wins, the same fans who claim they haven't lost the title will claim the writing is finished. And that's football: what's written counts, as long as it's favorable to my team.
The final between Flamengo and Botafogo isn't a surprise, but it certainly wasn't the most anticipated. Fluminense was the clear favorite for the title. But I'll tell you something: unlike in previous years, I don't trust the current Tricolor team. Something doesn't convince me that the signings were the best. I've already told friends that Fluminense will have a year like Botafogo's in 2007. Let's wait and see.
As for Sunday's game, please don't criticize the players' dancing. It's not disrespectful to the opponent: it's a celebration for the fans who are there wanting to see a spectacle. It may not be the best thing in the world, all those men shaking their hips, but the fans, who pay, like it. So, may the best player win in this game where there is no favorite. And may we see lots of people dancing and celebrating soccer at the Maracanã.
THE DAY
Defense with the wind in its sails
Janir Junior
Rio - Becoming a Flamengo idol is a daunting task with 35 million fans. For defenders, the mission is even more complicated. But with strong performances and decisive goals against Vasco, Ronaldo Angelim, 31, and Fábio Luciano, 32, are filling the gaps in the defense and trying to forge a path that will leave their mark on the club's history.
"To play for Flamengo, you need something extra, because they're a great team. It's not every day that a defender scores a decisive goal. But I believe I have a few more in the tank," says Ronaldo Angelim, who scored nine goals in 98 appearances for the club.
"I'm still far from being an idol, but the seven months I've been at Gávea feel like 10 years. Flamengo demands a lot from players. It's not normal for defenders to score two goals in a game. But it's a result of our dedication to this team," adds Fábio Luciano, who has scored four goals in 29 games.
Joel has the last laugh: 'Those who saved money did well'
Rio - The world turns, and Joel Santana, more than anyone, knows this. Once again, Joel responded to criticism with results: after being criticized by fans and the press for fielding the reserve team in the 4-1 rout suffered by Fluminense last Sunday, the red-and-black coach showed that his plan paid off. "Those who saved did well," the coach stated.
Joel isn't just referring to Flamengo: coincidence or not, Botafogo, who rested their starting lineup in the last two rounds of the first phase of the Taça Guanabara, is Flamengo's opponent in the final of the competition.
"Botafogo has a plan, and so does Flamengo. The two teams that rested the team in the last qualifying rounds are in the final. We did a preseason as expected and we're in the final," Joel stated.
Defender and captain Fábio Luciano, who scored the first goal in the semi-final against Vasco, in turn, believes that both teams deserved to be in the final:
"Football shows that it's fair for both teams to be in the final, they are the most consistent in the championship," declared the red-black captain to Rádio Brasil.
Ibson took away Edmund's concentration
Rio - Just before Edmundo took the penalty, Íbson approached the striker and taunted him in his ear. Among other things, he said: "You're going to miss, you're going to shoot wide. I said this and other nonsense and asked him not to make things difficult for me," revealed Íbson, who conceded the penalty on Morais. The player said this tactic usually works because it distracts the penalty taker.
After yesterday's day off, the team returns to training today. Having largely recovered from the pain in his right thigh, Toró shouldn't be a problem for the final. As a result, Kléberson will return to the bench. But Souza is complaining of a knock to his knee. Shortly after the victory over Vasco, Joel Santana hinted that he may make changes to the team. Diego Tardelli, who isn't yet at peak playing pace, is one of those being monitored by the coach.
Angelim plays with his Vasco da Gama father
Janir Junior
Rio - Ronaldo Angelim's father, Antônio, is a Vasco fan, but he didn't watch his team's loss to Flamengo. He went to watch Fortaleza's game, which lost to Icasa. He only learned that his son had been the hero of the Rio de Janeiro match thanks to a phone call. Afterwards, the Flamengo defender called to joke with his father. However, nothing bothered him, unlike Edmundo's missed penalty.
"I'm a Vasco fan, yes, but I root for Ronaldo, who isn't a son, but a father to us. Flamengo has provided him with many good things, which have helped us a lot. The house where we live here in Juazeiro do Norte was a gift from him," says Seu Antônio, 62, father of nine children. Today, Ronaldo's mother, Dona Francisca, turns 59. "I'm a Flamengo fan," Francisca emphasizes.
Antônio says he was rooting for a draw, even though he knew the match would go to penalties. Speaking of penalties, he reveals that his annoyance stemmed from Edmundo's missed kick: "After that, from what I heard, things got worse.
In the footsteps of the God of Race
Janir Junior
Rio - Flamengo captain Fábio Luciano began his career as a striker, but while at Ponte Preta, Vanderlei Paiva needed a defender and capitalized on the player's height. He never left the defense again. Fábio thanks the coach, but still thinks it's too early to be compared to Rondinelli, scorer of the header that gave Flamengo the state title against Vasco in 1978.
"You need titles to achieve this status," says Fábio Luciano, who witnessed Edmundo go through two difficult moments up close. "I was at Corinthians when he missed the penalty in the World Cup while playing for Vasco. Now it happened again. I took positives from these situations, and he took negatives," he stated.
The player is full of praise for Ronaldo Angelim: "He's a great teammate. He was the 'head chef' and welcomed me very warmly, and he plays for the club with passion."
Yesterday, the defender still had a swollen right elbow after taking a kick from Edmundo. Missing out on the final against Botafogo? No way. "I arrived with the team in the relegation zone, we secured a spot in the Libertadores, and now I'll be playing in my first final," said the defender, who, after rowing with Angelim, joked: "If it works out, a nice picture will be in the newspaper; if it rocks, it'll be on Jornal Nacional."

Joel tries to organize the midfield and attack for the final\ Gazeta Press\
Rio de Janeiro (RJ) - Bruno, Leonardo Moura, Ronaldo Angelim, Fábio Luciano, and Juan. The defensive lineup is already on the lips of every Flamengo fan. But from midfield forward, the red-and-blacks have faced some issues this season. The creative department and attack haven't yet met coach Joel Santana's expectations. Therefore, the coach confirmed he may make changes for Sunday's Taça Guanabara final against Botafogo. In midfield, Joel Santana hopes to count on the return of Toró, who missed the match against Vasco due to a right thigh problem. He would replace Kléberson.
While the midfielder struggles to recover from injury, Jônatas is struggling, and Joel Santana is already showing signs that he could replace him with Cristian, a starter for much of last year's Brazilian Championship. In midfield, defensive midfielder Jaílton has been an untouchable starter.
"We work to be a starter and stay in the team. And I think it's paying off, and I'm managing to help Flamengo achieve victories," commented Jaílton.
Joel Santana's biggest headache, however, is finding a partner for striker Souza. At the beginning of the season, the coach had been fielding Renato Augusto, but the player suffered a facial injury and will only return to action next month.
Marcinho was the first choice, but in recent games Joel has opted for Diego Tardelli. Since he hasn't yet performed as well as the coach expected, Marcinho could regain his place and start next weekend.
Joel Santana has already stated that he's in no rush to choose his starting lineup for the Guanabara Cup final. Meanwhile, the red-and-black players are excited about the possibility of their opponents playing without midfielder Zé Carlos and forward Jorge Henrique, both recovering from injuries.
"They're very high-quality players, and if they can't play, it'll be good for us. But regardless, Flamengo has to go out on the field determined," Jaílton emphasized.
Flamengo defender Fábio Luciano stated that the blow to his arm will not prevent him from playing in the Taça Guanabara final. "I spent the night with a little pain, but I was very happy. There's no pain greater than this happiness. Nothing will keep me out of Sunday's game," assured Fábio, who scored Flamengo's first goal in the derby against Vasco.
Those who saved did well, celebrates Joel
Rio de Janeiro (RJ) - A week after resting almost all of Flamengo's starters in their 4-1 loss to Fluminense, coach Joel Santana responded to criticism and declared: "Those who rested the players did well." The coach is referring to the fact that coach Cuca also rested Botafogo's starters in the final rounds of the first stage of the Taça Guanabara. The black and white team eliminated Flu and will face the Rubro-negro for the title.
"Botafogo has a plan, and so does Flamengo. The two teams that rested the team in the last qualifying rounds are in the final. We had a proper preseason and are in the final," Joel praised.
For the coach, the three changes he made were crucial to the victory against Vasco. "Restful play was crucial, as the other team was younger and performing better," he analyzed.
Joel took off Jônatas, Tardelli, and Kléberson and brought on Cristian, Marcinho, and Obina in the second half. "I knew the team wouldn't change much with the changes. Cristian comes in knowing what to do, and Marcinho, despite being here for a short time, also performed well," the coach concluded.

Fábio Luciano highlights the success of the duo with Ronaldo Angelim
From UOL Esporte\ In Rio de Janeiro\
The goals scored in Flamengo's 2-1 victory over Vasco da Gama this Sunday in the Guanabara Cup semifinal at Maracanã Stadium gave Fábio Luciano the certainty that he forms a well-matched partnership with Ronaldo Angelim. Fábio scored the team's first goal from Gávea in the 41st minute of the first half. Before that, the Cruzmaltinos were leading the match 1-0, thanks to a goal from Alan Kardec, scored ten minutes earlier.
Flamengo turned the game around in the 34th minute of the second half, when their defensive partner took advantage of a cross from the right and scored for the second time.
"I tell everyone that I've played with some great defenders in my career. I'll definitely remember Angelim as a player I gelled with well. He's a quality passer, and that was evident in the match against Vasco," he emphasized.
In the defender's opinion, the similarities that allow the duo to be so efficient on the field go beyond the technical factor:
"We both have a philosophy of respecting our opponents. He welcomed me very warmly to the club. He encouraged me to make things work, and I hope to form a defensive partnership with him for a long time."
Before Fábio Luciano arrived at Gávea in August of last year, Angelim changed defensive partners more than once. Moisés, Irineu, and Thiago Gosling are some of the players who didn't find success alongside him.
Botafogo hasn't beaten Flamengo in almost four years
From UOL Esporte\ In Rio de Janeiro\
The Guanabara Cup final against Flamengo will be a double challenge for Botafogo. Besides winning the traditional trophy, which would guarantee a spot in the State Championship final, Botafogo will also be looking to end a long drought: the team hasn't beaten Flamengo since March 14, 2004, when they beat Flamengo 1-0 at Maracanã in the Rio Cup, with a backheel goal from striker Alex Alves.
Since then, there have been 14 matches, with six Flamengo victories and eight draws, five of which were in the last results, in all the meetings held in 2007. Two of these games were valid for the State final and ended 2-2. On April 29, Botafogo made it 2-0, with goals from Dodô and Lúcio Flávio, but the rival equalized, with Renato, from a penalty, and Souza.
A week later, Souza opened the scoring, the opposition came back with Juninho and Dodô, and Renato Augusto leveled the score. Flamengo won 4-2 in penalties. Renato, Juan, Roni, and Leonardo Moura scored. Goalkeeper Bruno saved shots from Juninho and Lúcio Flávio, while Túlio and Luciano Almeida scored.
The last duel was in the Brazilian Championship, on August 29th, at Maracanã, and ended 1-1. Juan opened the scoring, but Jorge Henrique equalized. Souza missed a penalty, saved by Botafogo's Max.
The two teams have faced each other 319 times. Flamengo won 115 of those matches, losing 101, and drawing 103. They scored 502 goals and conceded 466. The first meeting was in the 1913 Rio de Janeiro State Championship, on May 13th, at General Severiano Stadium, and the home team won 1-0, with a goal by Mimi Sodré. It was the inaugural match of Botafogo's stadium.
Of the 319 matches played, 205 were played at Maracanã, with 70 wins for the Gávea club, 60 for Glorioso, and 75 draws. The goalscoring tally: 278 to 253. Flamengo also leads the way in the history of the Rio de Janeiro State Championship: 205 matches played, with 76 wins, 70 losses, and 59 draws. They scored 332 goals and conceded 312.
The biggest derby wins occurred in the 20s. On August 15, 1926, Flamengo won 8-1. Aché and Fragoso, with three each, Nonô and Vadinho scored for the Rubro-Negro, who were leading 7-0. Neco scored for Botafogo, who retaliated the following year, on May 29: 9-2. Nilo put on a show, scoring four goals. Ariza and Joãozinho, with two each, and Almo scored the others. Moderato and Frederico scored for the losing team. Both games were part of the Carioca Championship and were held at the Paissandu Street stadium.

Cuca: 'Fla has the strongest group'
The black and white coach predicts another balanced match in the Guanabara Cup final.
Gustavo Rotstein
Botafogo and Flamengo had the best campaigns in their groups in the Guanabara Cup. Therefore, Cuca believes the first-round final will be fair. However, when comparing the two teams, the coach states that the opponent has an advantage.
"Flamengo, having maintained the core team that performed well last season and signed key players, has a stronger squad. But we'll do our best to balance this out on the field."
Despite this factor, Cuca believes next Sunday's final will be evenly matched again. Last year, the two teams faced each other five times, with five draws.
"I think Flamengo was only better in the last game (a 1-1 draw in the second round of the Brazilian Championship). In the others, we were slightly ahead. But in any case, the trend is that this will continue in the next match."
Rodrigo no longer has a cast on his arm
Flamengo defender begins physiotherapy this Wednesday and is rooting for the team in the final
Flamengo defender Rodrigo will begin physical therapy on his right arm this Wednesday. The player, who was injured in the match against Volta Redonda at Maracanã (watch the video), is already out of the cast and is trying to recover as quickly as possible, according to his press office.
Out of action, Rodrigo supports the team and hopes for the Guanabara Cup title, in the game against Botafogo, on Sunday.
"Even if we're away, I'll be rooting for the first-round title to come to Gávea. The Flamengo fans deserve this victory and will throw a wonderful party."
Athletes will pay tribute to Ronaldo after goals
The finger-pointing celebration is expected to be seen around the world. The first was Fábio Luciano.
In an attempt to keep Ronaldo's spirits up (he just underwent delicate surgery on his left knee), the sports equipment supplier that sponsors the Phenomenon suggested to other athletes with whom he has a contract a way to honor the star. The idea is for the players to celebrate Ronaldo-style after scoring goals, with their index fingers pointing forward and shaking. The campaign is expected to catch on on pitches around the world. This Sunday, in the derby between Flamengo and Vasco, defender Fábio Luciano was the first to celebrate the Phenomenon-style after scoring the goal that started the red-and-black comeback (watch above).
"He's a successful athlete, admired by every soccer player, and an example of overcoming adversity. He'll bounce back. As successful as he's always been, he doesn't want to end his career injured," says Fábio Luciano.
Angelim doesn't forgive his father: 'He's his deputy'
Defender gets emotional when talking to Antônio, but doesn't stop mocking Vasco's defeat
Ronaldo Angelim has eight siblings. They're all Flamengo fans. Interestingly, however, the Flamengo player's father, Antônio Leite, is a Vasco fan. And he had to endure his son's teasing this Monday.
- I called him and said: it's runner-up again, right, Dad? A long-suffering Vasco fan - he says, ignoring the fact that Sunday's duel was in the semifinal - and not the final - of the Guanabara Cup.
Angelim's father lives in Juazeiro, in the interior of Ceará. He watched his son's goal on television and, early Monday evening, spoke with the Flamengo defender on the SporTV program "Tá na área" (watch the video above).
The Flamengo hero couldn't contain his emotion and cried. A little awkwardly, Antônio said he celebrated his son's goal.
- I'm a Vasco fan, but I thought it was good. I had to celebrate, didn't I? - he declares.

Ibson reveals how he 'dried' Edmundo
Midfielder vents and says that, even without playing, he didn't sleep after the rout against Flu
Eduardo Peixoto
Thousands of Vasco fans chanted "Ah, it's Edmundo!" moments before the player took—and missed—the free kick against Flamengo. However, an intrusive voice disrupted the Animal's concentration. Ibson, who had fouled Morais, used the tactic to save his own skin.
- I told him: "You're going to miss, you're going to kick it out" and then I added: "Edmundo, miss the shot because otherwise it'll get me into trouble" - he says, in an interview with GLOBOESPORTE.COM, over the phone (watch the video of the Flamengo player's trickery above).
The victory was also desired for other reasons. Ibson didn't even play against Fluminense in the final round of the first phase. He watched the reserves' 4-1 defeat from the special seating area.
He remained silent for a whole week after what he considered disrespectful remarks from Tricolor player Thiago Neves. However, after helping Flamengo qualify for the Guanabara Cup final against Vasco and "dancing the sky of relief," the midfielder vented his frustrations and criticized his teammate's actions.
- I was very upset by the lack of respect.
GLOBOESPORTE.COM: So, what did you say to Edmundo moments before the penalty?\ Ibson: I told him: "You're going to miss it, you're going to shoot wide" and then I added: "Edmundo, miss the penalty or you'll get me into trouble." I went to his ear to say some nonsense, I needed to distract him.\
The tactic, apparently, worked. Do you usually do it?\ No, it was the first time. I had conceded the penalty and needed to try to help Flamengo somehow. I kept bothering Edmundo and it worked.\
During the week, Bruno commented that he "can hold his own" on the field. Is there really that much confidence in the number 1? He gives us a lot of peace of mind. But not just Bruno. We have a group of 30 players and we trust everyone on the field.
Obina, Leo Moura and Ibson dance créu after the triumph over Vasco: relief
At the beginning of the year, there were some criticisms of your performances. Was it your best performance of 2008 against Vasco?\ I can say yes. On Sunday, I was perfect. I helped with the marking, got forward, and almost scored. I hit it right on target, but the goalkeeper saved it.\
And the créu dance at the end of the game? Was that a response to Thiago Neves? I was very upset by his lack of respect. We dance when we celebrate goals, but with our fans. Never in front of the opponent. He should learn not to disrespect a rival because things change and one day he might play here. Flamengo's fans are a spectacle and would never deserve this.
Did that defeat, even in a game without much interest, really hurt that much? I didn't play, but I felt it from the stands. I didn't sleep that day; my wife was on trial. The players who took the field received a lot of criticism. Here, when you lose, everyone loses.
Fluminense and Vasco are history now. On Sunday, it'll be Botafogo's turn. What's the recipe for the final? It'll be a very tough match. Another derby is coming up, and Botafogo has a great team. Just like in the match against Vasco, whoever makes the fewest mistakes will win.
Fábio Luciano: 'I don't know if I'm an idol'
Defender is praised by Flamengo fans and compared to the 'god of race', Rondinelli

Flamengo's Fábio Luciano and Ronaldo Angelim row in the Lagoon
Fábio Luciano has been with Flamengo for seven months. However, he says it feels like ten years. The fans agree. On Sunday, the defender's name was mentioned in the stands at several points during the derby against Vasco.
Captain, leader, and defensive rock. As if that weren't enough, he also went forward and scored a goal. Not even Edmundo's kick to the right arm in the first half could keep him off the field.
His delivery led to him being compared to the god of Fla's race in the 1970s, Rondinelli.
"I don't know if I'm an idol. I think a player only achieves that status with titles. That's what makes his mark. But I know the fans like me. I see it every day on the streets. My efforts are for them," he says.
On Monday afternoon, he was at Flamengo's rowing headquarters in Lagoa. His arm wasn't immobilized in any way. However, the area is swollen. Even so, Fábio ventured into the water and rowed alongside his defensive partner Ronaldo Angelim. They exchanged compliments.
"I'll definitely remember Angelim as a great defensive teammate throughout my career. He was the head chef and welcomed me very warmly," says Fábio.
Scorer of the winning goal, Ronaldo Angelim once again showed modesty to praise his teammates.
"My goal was important. But we can't forget how Bruno and Fábio were fundamental to our victory," he says.
Joel Santana and Cuca exchange pleasantries
In an interview, coaches from the finals of the Guanabara Cup reveal the secrets of Fla and Botafogo
Finalists in the Guanabara Cup and ready to duel off the field, Flamengo coach Joel Santana and Botafogo manager Cuca met this Monday on the "Arena SporTV" program. Preseason, signings, the first round of the Carioca Championship, favoritism, and rivalry were among the topics of conversation. Opponents in next Sunday's final at the Maracanã, the coaches exchanged praise during the broadcast and expressed confidence in their teams to win the title. Below, check out the highlights of the meeting.
THROW
Flamengo and Botafogo draw in Guanabara Cup finals
However, in the two years in which it decided the tournament with its rival, Rubro-Negro never won the Rio title in a row.
LANCEPRESS!\ Guanabara Cup finalists Flamengo and Botafogo have faced each other only twice in the tournament finals, with each team winning once. In 1968, Flamengo thrashed Botafogo mercilessly 4-1, with Gerson scoring twice. In 1995, Romário scored three times in the Flamengo's 3-2 victory.\
Interestingly, Flamengo never won the Rio de Janeiro state championship in the same year it won the Guanabara Cup against Glorioso. In 1968, Botafogo itself won the state title, and in 1995, Flamengo lost the Carioca to Fluminense.
The Guanabara Cup was created in 1965 to determine the representative of the state of Guanabara (now Rio de Janeiro) in the Brazilian Cup. Even after the national tournament ended in 1968, the GB Cup continued to be contested, almost always as the first round of the Carioca (this did not occur in 1980, 1994, and 1995).

LANCEPRESS!
Defender Fábio Luciano was one of Flamengo's heroes in the semifinal against Vasco, scoring the equalizer late in the first half. He and defender Ronaldo Angelim, who scored Flamengo's other goal, gave a well-attended joint press conference at the club's nautical headquarters in Lagoa, Rio de Janeiro's South Zone. Fábio commented on the tribute to striker Ronaldo and assured that the gesture was spontaneous, despite being suggested by the sponsor.
"The tribute we decided to pay to Ronaldo was a sponsor's idea, and we embraced it very much, because Ronaldo is an example of overcoming obstacles in football. We were under no obligation, but anyone who wanted to embrace the idea would be welcome. Nothing would have happened if I hadn't made the gesture in honor of Ronaldo," Fábio Luciano emphasized.
The team captain also stated that he will continue to maintain the same dedication in next Sunday's final against Botafogo. According to him, the fans know how to tell who plays with passion and who doesn't, and they know that only winning titles can earn him idol status among the Red-Blacks.
"At Flamengo, you have to dedicate yourself so that the fans recognize you. Our fans go to the stadium a lot and therefore know very well who is dedicated and who isn't. I'm happy with the displays of affection, but I don't feel like an idol yet, because I haven't won any titles here. And in football, there's no history without a title," he concludes.
Toró hopes to return to the team against Botafogo

Toró has a good chance of playing in the final (Credit: Gilvan de Souza)
LANCEPRESS!\ One of the most important players for Flamengo's scheme this season, midfielder Toró did not participate in Sunday's match due to muscle pain in his right thigh, suffered in Tacna, Peru.\
But anyone who thought he'd be watching the game at home was mistaken. The player was at the Maracanã for the semifinal against Vasco and has already expressed hope of returning to the team for the Guanabara Cup final against Botafogo next Sunday.
"The worst thing for a player is to miss a decisive game like this one against Vasco. But God willing, I'll be able to play next week and help Flamengo win the Guanabara Cup," he said.
Toró was injured in last Wednesday's match against Coronel Bolognesi, Flamengo's Copa Libertadores debut. He has already played five matches for the Carioca and scored one goal, against Macaé. He is one of coach Joel Santana's trusted men.
At Maracanã, Toró was alongside midfielder Renato Augusto, who is recovering from facial surgery, and defender Thiago Sales, who had not been included in the squad for the derby against Vasco.
At Fla, players agree that the final is fair
Teams meet in the Guanabara Cup final\ LANCEPRESS!\
After deciding last year's Campeonato Carioca, Flamengo and Botafogo are in the final of the 2008 Taça Guanabara. At the Gávea club, coach Joel Santana and all the players agree that both teams deserve to play in the final.
- Football shows that it is fair for both teams to be in the final, they are the most consistent in the championship - said Fábio Luciano to Rádio Brasil.
"Given their campaigns, they are the best teams, who played the best football. The game will be decided by whoever makes the fewest mistakes," declared defender Ronaldo Angelim.
Flamengo players also believe that striker Jorge Henrique will play in the final.
- In decisive games, players always surpass themselves, Fábio Luciano is an example of this in this Sunday's match - concluded Angelim.
Juan emphasizes that there are no favorites.
The full-back celebrated the fact that they had eliminated Fla's biggest rival\ LANCEPRESS!\
State Champion for Flamengo in 2007 against Botafogo, left-back Juan rejected the favoritism attributed to Rubro-Negro for the Guanabara Cup final against Alvinegro, revealing expectations for a balanced game.
"There's no favorite for this game. The teams are well-matched, and it's going to be a great game," he simply said.
Regarding the 2-1 victory over Vasco, the Flamengo's number 6 showed some relief with the triumph and also spoke about the emotion of defending Flamengo in a packed Maracanã:
"It was incredibly tense, especially since we beat our biggest rival. Congratulations to the team for the victory. It's hard to explain the feeling of playing for Flamengo at Maracanã, because our fans are contagious. I can only say that they instill a sense of fight and determination, and it's a wonderful feeling."
Fabio Luciano reveals he was once a striker
Flamengo's captain, however, says he is not used to scoring goals\ LANCEPRESS!\
Applauded for scoring the first goal in the 2-1 victory over Vasco, defender Fabio Luciano revealed that he had previously played as a striker, but celebrated the fact that he had been moved to defense, a fact for which he thanked Vanderlei Paiva, who coached him at Ponte Preta.
- I was a striker, but I'm glad I changed. If I continued as a striker, I think I would die of hunger - he joked, adding:
- Thank God I had a friendly coach (Vanderlei Paiva, at Ponte Preta), who sent me to attack. I'm very grateful to him.
Despite having played up front, the red-and-black captain guarantees that he no longer has the same intimacy to score against opponents:
- It's good because it's not something we're used to experiencing. It's nice.

Much celebrated for the goal that qualified Flamengo for the final of the Guanabara Cup, Ronaldo Angelim, when speaking with his mother, Francisca Simões Angelim, on Sportv, exchanged smiles for tears, these, of course, of joy.
- Juazeiro, where 90% are Flamengo fans, is celebrating - he said, after crying after his mother's praise.
Angelim also explained that the emotion was not limited to his mother's affection, but also to the fact that he had stood out in a decisive game for Flamengo, a club for which, according to the player himself, he never imagined he would play.
- I can't lie: I never expected that I would get here one day and I'm very happy about that - he concluded.
Fabio Luciano says he identifies with Flamengo
Defender feels like he's been at the club for ten years\ LANCEPRESS!\
Having been at Flamengo for seven months, defender Fabio Luciano highlighted the connection he has developed with the club and the Flamengo fans. The Gávea number 3 also described his move to Flamengo as a milestone in his career.
"The opportunity to come and play for Flamengo was a milestone in my career: playing for both Corinthians and Flamengo. And now I have my first chance at a title here, because in the Brasileirão, when I arrived, there wasn't enough time. The group is ready to compete in several competitions. I've been here for seven months, but it feels like ten years. Within Flamengo, you have to dedicate yourself so that the fans recognize you," he preached.
Having settled into the country's most popular club, the red-and-black captain still doesn't consider himself an idol, linking the possible achievement of this position to lifting trophies.
- I'm happy with the trust the fans have placed in me. They trust my work and have recognized it. Yesterday (Sunday), it was evident. But I will only consider myself an idol
