Fla beats Vasco and dreams big

A 2-1 victory leaves the red-black team close to the group that goes to the Libertadores

What was impossible a few rounds ago is starting to become a dream for Flamengo fans. With yesterday's 2-1 victory at Maracanã against Vasco, Flamengo reached 46 points and is just five behind Grêmio, in fourth place, who would currently qualify for next year's Copa Libertadores. On Sunday, Flamengo hosts Grêmio at Maracanã, and with a win, they will close the gap to two points. Flamengo is now two points behind Fluminense, in sixth place and the top Rio de Janeiro team in the Brazilian Championship.

Yesterday, unlike what happened during the Brazil vs. Ecuador game, parking was free on Maracanã and Radial Oeste avenues and on Eurico Rabello Street, which ended up causing traffic jams near one of the stadium entrances.

"This promotion symbolizes the close relationship between the fans and the club. And with the proceeds from the sales, we'll still find a way to resume construction on the training center," says Flamengo's vice president of marketing, Ricardo Hinrichsen.

Right-back Leo Moura didn't miss the opportunity to mock Vasco fans after Thursday's derby. Upon receiving the Souza Aguiar trophy for Flamengo's victory, the player made fun of it.

"Don't they say Flamengo and Vasco are separate championships? So, we're champions and they're runners-up again. It's runners-up again!" he says, holding up the symbolic trophy.
