I enjoy the moments that follow the big classics. In these days following Sunday's Flamengo and Vasco and the previous day's Botafogo and Fluminense, I feel like a kid again. And we're all kids.
It doesn't take long for fans to come up with the day's hottest new jokes, hot off the press. Some people repeat a tired phrase with conviction, but it still holds some truth. Half-truth, I'd say: "Football is serious business."
Football is indeed serious, especially when viewed as a business that moves a lot of money, generates jobs and feeds bellies and passions.
But football is, above all, a form of entertainment that makes people scream and samba, singing their war songs, waving their flags. In short, it's a good old party. There's plenty of Maracanã for all the partying!
Just yesterday, as I was passing by the gallery in my building, I was pulled aside by Marcos, Carmem's husband, who, in turn, is a top-notch podiatrist. Marcos jumped out of the shop and came toward me with a sly smile. A passionate Flamengo fan, he grabbed my arm with relative force to tell one of his tall tales: "João, Edmundo was the first player to be cheered by two fans in the same match."
