The general section turned to dust, a key word in the song Flamengo fans have been singing at Maracanã since 2004, the same year the replacement of the traditional section with lower seats was announced. Yesterday, the Geraldinos were milling around the stadium, in a state of high spirits. To endure the disregard with which they were treated, the Flamengo fans armed themselves with good humor and irreverence to spend two nights in line waiting for ticket booth 5 to open today at 9 a.m. to exchange cans of Neston for tickets to the match against Atlético-PR on Sunday.
Left literally in the lurch by Nestlé and Ingresso Fácil, who shared responsibility yesterday, fans organized themselves and created queue numbers. Some even sold their tickets for R$100. But all the money in the world wouldn't take away Fabiana Fernandes's number one spot. She arrived at noon on Monday, spent the night, and was in the same spot in the morning.

The sacrifice in line also comes at a price for Rafael Araújo. He and a friend will trade eight cans for eight tickets. He'll keep one and says he'll sell the other seven.

Joel expects a packed Maracanã after the confusion over exchanging cans for tickets
After much confusion over ticket swaps yesterday involving Nestlé, the promoter, Flamengo, and Suderj, the matter has finally been resolved. Today, starting at 9 a.m., ticket exchanges will begin.
Yesterday's meeting in Gávea ended up being lengthy, as Flamengo, through its football director Marcos Brás, sent Suderj a proposal for an amicable settlement that would secure an end to the dispute. Once the situation was resolved, it was determined that tickets would be exchanged at five locations: Gávea, Maracanã ticket office 5, Caio Martins, the Kappa store in Barra, and the Extra supermarket in Barra, where tickets will be distributed to those who picked up their tickets on Monday.
"Although Flamengo is not responsible for this, we are trying to cooperate to resolve this issue. There will be a few ticket exchange points to avoid crowds, but there's no guarantee that lines will remain. There is a demand, and the discomfort for fans is unfortunately natural. However, the military police are already mobilized, and through common sense, exceptionally for this promotion, ticket exchanges will take place at Maracanã and Gávea," explained Marcos Brás.
The lines mentioned by the director are now expected to be the biggest problem in this ticket distribution process, with Neston's cans being handed out. This is because, with only 32.730 tickets available, each ticketing location is expected to have fewer than 7 available. At least 10 people are expected to crowd Maracanã and Gávea stadiums, making crowding inevitable.
According to Fúlvio Gemignani, a representative of DC7, the company responsible for issuing the tickets, the problem on Monday arose because they hadn't yet managed to place the Nestlé logo on the tickets. "I don't know anything about this matter. The information is not correct, as Flamengo was not consulted about this possibility," denied Kleber Leite.

After six years off the calendar, Maracanãzinho will once again be used by Rio basketball. The match marking this reunion couldn't be more fitting: Flamengo and Vasco. The two clubs face off today at 20 p.m. for the State Championship. The fully renovated gymnasium will welcome many players who have never played professionally on its court. Among them are two athletes who left the youth teams at São Januário to play at Gávea.
Point guard Marcelus and center Maicon began their careers at Vasco. The former joined in 1999, the latter in 2000. In every age group they played, they faced their archrival, the red-and-blacks. This year, for the first time, they experienced the other side of the derby. It was last Friday, in a match played at Caio Martins Stadium, which the Cruzmaltino won.
"It was a very strange feeling, after all, I've always supported Vasco. But that's life. I can't stay at one club forever. Flamengo is a stable club, which has maintained a mature team for many years, so I had to think about my future," said Marcelus.

"Nestlé will be sanctioned for what it did to fans. Flamengo may even be fined, but it disseminated the information correctly. What happened this Monday is unacceptable. Flamengo outsourced everything, but its management forgot to coordinate," he criticized.

Secretary wants exemplary punishment for Nestlé, but does not rule out fining Flamengo

Fan can't stand the wait and ends up sleeping in line at Maracanã Stadium. The confusion surrounding the exchange of Nestlé cans for tickets at Maracanã Stadium for the Flamengo-Atlético-PR match could gain new chapters even after the match. This is guaranteed by the Secretary of Sports, Leisure and Tourism, Eduardo Paes, who singled out Nestlé as the main culprit for having disseminated incorrect information regarding points of sale. "Nestlé will be sanctioned for what it did to the fans. Flamengo may even be fined, but it disclosed the information correctly. Nestlé, on the other hand, said there would be an exchange this Tuesday at Maracanã, as if this were their market where they can sell chocolate or powdered milk at will," the secretary attacks.
Paes says that Flamengo requested the Maracanã stadium for this Tuesday, but since no plan was presented, the Rio de Janeiro State Supreme Court denied it. Earlier this afternoon, an action plan was finally presented and approved. The sale begins this Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. Despite approving the plan, the secretary also harshly criticized Flamengo.

The Public Prosecutor's Office, represented by Juan Vazquez, also made itself available to fans who felt harmed to file a public civil action against those responsible.

Germano Soares de Sousa, 44, was declared brain dead Tuesday night in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Souza Aguiar Hospital in downtown Rio. The Flamengo fan was injured last Friday night after a fight between rival fans. His body will be sent to the Forensic Medical Institute (IML).
Germano suffered head trauma from the attacks he received during the fan fight. He was on a ventilator and underwent neurosurgery early Saturday morning.
The crime occurred as Flamengo and Vasco fans were heading to watch a basketball game at Ginásio Caio Martins in Niterói. The two groups met on Almirante Barroso Street in downtown Rio, in front of a nightclub. Germano was punched and kicked in various parts of his body, especially his head.
Police arrived at the scene and controlled the fight. In total, 52 fans were detained and taken to the 6th Precinct (Cidade Nova), where the incident was reported.
On Germano's page on the social networking site Orkut, expressions of mourning have already begun: "Warrior, may God be with you!!! I will never forget you!!! Go in peace, brother!!! It's always us!!!!"

After a meeting between Flamengo and Nestlé, as well as approval from Suderj (State of Rio de Janeiro) and the Military Police, the exchange of tickets for the match between the Gávea club and Atlético Paranaense will take place this Wednesday, starting at 9 a.m. Fans will have access to five locations (Maracanã ticket office 5, Kappa store on Avenida das Américas, Caio Martins and the Extra supermarket in Barra).
Reservations, however, have been made for two of these exchange stations. At Gávea, because the ticket booths aren't wide enough for a Neston can to fit through, fans will have to go to a gate across from Praça Nossa Auxiliadora. At Extra, in Barra, only fans who received tickets on Monday will be able to exchange tickets.
