Like any doting father, Antônio is full of praise for his son. However, as a hardened former defender from the Aterro do Flamengo soccer leagues, he offers advice, cheers, and even cries when Dindo, as Paulo Sérgio is known at home and on the street where he lives, scores goals like the one on Sunday. But sometimes he also gets tough.
Paulo Sérgio says the weight of the Fla shirt is not easy
At Paulo Sérgio's house, there's no shortage of Flamengo jerseys with the striker's name engraved above the number. Alongside his mother, Maria Aparecida, and his brother, Franklin, who played right-back for Olaria a few years ago, everyone worships the budding star. But when Antônio speaks, there's no doubt Paulo Sérgio has to follow his own example. "He's been a great player ever since he was little. As a defender who used to mark my opponents closely, I knew right away he had a future. I always told him: if you're afraid of facing a defender, if you're afraid of getting hit, find something else to do," says his father.
Paulo Sérgio laughs at the straightforward and sincere way he talks about Antônio, a garage attendant at a building in Botafogo who washed up to 30 cars a day and drove a taxi to pay for his house on Tavares Bastos Street in Catete. The view of Guanabara Bay from up there is breathtaking. It's so green, and monkeys come to eat bananas and cashews in the yard, and Antônio gets excited.
"I've lived in Rio for over 30 years. There's no better place than here," he assures.
But Paulo Sérgio makes no secret of his dream of life down there. To achieve that, he knows he needs to establish himself in Gávea.
"It's not easy playing in this jersey. You feel the pressure from an early age. One day, someone came to me and said, 'If you don't score, you'll see...' But I hope to establish myself. There's nothing better than seeing a defender angry because you scored a goal. And, as soon as I can, I'll give my family more comfort," dreams the striker, who paid tribute to his chubby friend Ricardo with a belly gesture after scoring Sunday's goal.

Dindo agrees. At 17, he knows he can't get carried away because the defender is so close. If he doesn't behave, Antônio gives him the recipe he would use if he were assigned to mark his son.
- I'd score from above. I can't give him any space because he's too fast. Then, it'll just be a fight.

Flamengo is a club renowned for producing great Brazilian football stars. It's no surprise that many players trained at Gávea are currently enjoying success in the world of football, such as defender Juan, a regular starter in the Brazilian national team's defense, and forward Adriano and goalkeeper Júlio César, both playing for Inter Milan. Many other stars also came through the club's youth ranks, such as the eternal idol Zico and former full-back Júnior, both world champions in 1981.
Once again, history repeats itself, and today, a promising new generation emerges at Gávea, which has been well nurtured through a partnership between youth coach Adílio and Ney Franco.
