In a boring game played on a strange pitch, the team that made the fewest mistakes won. With a penalty goal by Leonardo Moura in the 42nd minute of the second half, Flamengo defeated Fluminense 1-0 yesterday at the Maracanã and returned to second place in the Brazilian Championship, now level on 10 points with leaders Cruzeiro. From the Maracanã's grandstand, Zico made no secret of his displeasure at halftime. He asked for "a goal to liven things up," and was granted it three minutes from time. The victory in the derby, with the former star in attendance, was a sort of achievement for coach Caio Júnior, even though Flamengo hasn't been a brilliant team. As Flamengo's coach, he has three wins and one draw.
"Zico was my biggest idol, the player I looked up to. In fact, I'm looking forward to the chance to meet him," said the coach. "I often joke with Andrade (assistant coach) that one day I'll fit into the midfield formed by him, Adílio, and Zico. I'd play up front."
At Maracanã, Zico attended the reinauguration of the bust of journalist Mário Filho in the elevator lobby. He also received a tribute from Suderj (Rio de Janeiro State Sports Federation) for being the all-time leading scorer in the Fla-Flu championship, with 19 goals.
"It was a surprise. I didn't know the brand," confessed the player, who remembered his great Fla-Flus matches and singled out the 4-1 rout in 1986 as special. "The Fluminense fans called me a beast. But the beast was standing up."
After the victory that placed Flamengo as one of the leaders of the Brazilian Championship, Caio Júnior recognized that the team's performance "wasn't great", but praised the result and the red-black performance in the first four rounds of the competition.
"We weren't playing against a youth team, as they say. Fernando Henrique, Roger, Fabinho, and Dodô are experienced players. Fluminense gave us possession but didn't put us at risk. When we were down to ten men, we grew. The team had incredible attitude and determination," the coach praised.

Flamengo's dream of winning its first national basketball title has never been closer to reality. With another convincing performance, led by Marcelinho's 25 points (including five three-pointers), Flamengo defeated Universo/Brasília 91-76 yesterday afternoon at Maracanãzinho, taking a 2-0 lead in the finals.
The two teams will face each other tomorrow at 20 p.m. in Brasília. With a win, Flamengo will clinch the title. The Brasilia team only needs to win to force a fourth game (Thursday) in Brasília, where they will have to win again to push the final to the final match at Maracanãzinho on Sunday.
The previous times Flamengo reached the final, in 2000, Vasco opened 2-0 and closed 3-1; and in 2004, Uberlândia (MG) won 3-0.

"We can't expect to win with 17% of three-pointers. The opponent deserves credit. But we let them play very well. We don't think the defense is ideal," said Brasília coach Lula Ferreira.
In the third quarter, Flamengo remained calm until Marcelinho was called for a technical foul with 4:35 remaining, when the Rio de Janeiro team was leading 63-49. With the opposing team's leading scorer on the bench, Brasília closed the gap a bit. The period ended 70-56 in favor of Flamengo.
In the final quarter, a heavy artillery of three-pointers from Duda, Fernando, and Hélio gave Flamengo a 22-point lead: 78 to 56, at 7:30. From then on, they just had to manage the deficit to close the game at 91 to 76. Before that, however, there was an unusual play: with 13 seconds left, point guard Valtinho put the ball on the floor, where it remained until the clock ran out and the referee called the end of the game.

Was the Fla-Flu match bad because of Fluminense's reserve team, because of the poor performance of Flamengo's (considered) starting team or because of the waterlogged field?
Because of all this, and due to the lack of boldness of their coach, victory only came at the end, in the form of a penalty taken by Léo Moura.
If coach Caio Júnior has to use so many defensive midfielders against a mixed reserve and junior team, imagine when he plays against Fluminense's starting lineup, which is advancing in the Libertadores. Flamengo won, but failed the test.

Obina once again comes in and helps Fla win
When all is lost, the Black Angel is the solution. A perennial Flamengo luminary, Obina always enters Flamengo games to decide the game. Whether with a goal, an assist, for better or for worse, putting him on the field is synonymous with excitement. Yesterday, against Fluminense, the striker's fate was once again intertwined with the story of a classic. When the fans called for him, Caio Júnior answered. And the rest is history...

Rio - Despite poor performance from both teams on the field, Flamengo overcame Fluminense's reserves and secured all three points. The red-and-blacks took the lead in the competition, level with Cruzeiro, and now have 10 points in the Brasileirão. The goal was scored by right-back Leonardo Moura, who scored from the penalty spot in the 42nd minute of the second half.
The Flamengo vs. Flu match started off quite fast at the Maracanã, with both teams looking to attack early on. Fluminense's reserves had nothing to lose and went in search of a goal. The Flamengos, however, with the responsibility of victory, also went on the attack.
In the 10th minute, the Tricolor had its first chance, with Dodô taking a free kick. The striker accurately hit a free kick into the left corner, but Bruno saved it by sending the ball out for a corner.
Flamengo's response came soon after, with a blatant error by Fabinho. Fluminense's midfield tried to pass the ball back to Fernando Henrique, but ended up creating a great chance for Flamengo. In a quick counterattack, the Tricolor showed they wanted more than a point. Dodô received the ball up front, beat Cristian, and fired a dangerous shot into the net, just outside Bruno's goal.
In the 21st minute, Caio Júnior brought Maxi on. To bring the Argentine on, the coach took off number 22, Marcinho, who was struggling in the game.

To the dismay of Flamengo's manager, a player was sent off in the 23rd minute. Diego Tardelli, in a childish manner, clashed with Mauricio and, after a collision between the two, decided to retaliate with a light kick to the Tricolor's legs. Caio Jr believes that victories cannot deceive the team
Rio - Flamengo's coach celebrated the 1-0 victory over Fluminense's reserves in the fourth round of the Brazilian Championship. Caio Júnior said after the game that the important thing is to maintain consistency in the team's performances.

The loss to their rival, besides being harsh (due to the circumstances) before their Copa Libertadores semifinal clash with Boca Juniors, meant Renato Gaúcho's team finished the round at the bottom of the Brazilian Championship. For Flamengo, the victory kept them in contention for the top spot. Now, the Rubro-Negro has ten points, along with Cruzeiro, who sits in first place on goal difference.

Léo Moura's goal came at a good time for Flamengo. From the penalty spot, the full-back gave Flamengo the victory and the lead in the Brazilian league, alongside Cruzeiro, with 10 points. The player scored his first goal in the competition and highlighted the importance of always practicing penalties.
"I always train to shoot penalties well. The team was a fighter and managed to achieve the victory, which was very important for our goal," he stated.
Léo Moura wasn't bothered by the narrow victory over Fluminense's reserves. The full-back noted that the important thing was the third win in three games at Maracanã:
"It was a good victory. It's always important to win at Maracanã. Fluminense was a lean and dangerous team. They were the reserves, but in classics, that doesn't change anything. Everyone wants to win."
Caio Júnior teases another debut
After Maracanã and cheering, it was time to debut in a Rio derby\ LANCEPRESS!\
After his Flamengo debut against Santos and his first match in front of fans against Internacional, Caio Júnior made his debut for the club again. This time in a derby. And the coach joked that it was his first win in the Fla-Flu match.
"I'm always debuting... sometimes it's at the stadium, sometimes with the fans, and now it's a Fla-Flu match. This was our third game at Maracanã, and we got our third win. I think the team is on the right track," he said.
Caio Júnior has yet to lose as Flamengo's coach. He has won three matches, all at Maracanã (Santos, Internacional, and Fluminense), and drawn one (Grêmio, at Olímpico). The team will play its next two matches in Rio: against Figueirense and São Paulo.
