The fans asked for him to stay with a banner draped over the fence reading "Stay Joel" and showed their gratitude with a plaque presented before training yesterday afternoon in Gávea. After training, the players, one by one, went to the coach's office and asked him not to leave. And Joel Santana's heart sank. Red-eyed and on the verge of tears, Joel gave an emotional press conference with a speech in which he hinted at his continuation at Flamengo in 2008. But he left the final decision for today.
"Everything they say until tomorrow (today) is a lie. Kleber called me and asked if I wanted to decide the case today (yesterday). I preferred to let the emotion pass and respond tomorrow," said the coach.

Joel was so pleased with the tributes that he even promised the fans that he would go to Christ the Redeemer after training this morning, in a demonstration expected to draw around 200 Flamengo fans at Corcovado Mountain. The plan is to dress the statue in Flamengo jerseys and hang a large flag on the steps. After visiting Christ the Redeemer, Joel returns to Gávea to decide his future in a meeting with Kleber Leite, vice president of football.
"There won't be time to talk after training, before going to Corcovado. We'll leave it for after the trip to Christ the Redeemer. Then we can resolve everything more calmly. I didn't even have time to consider the offer the club presented to me," said Joel.
The fans' tributes touched the coach, who considered it normal that Kleber Leite had confirmed that he had invited Mano Menezes, who is leaving Grêmio after the Brazilian Championship, to replace him:

"Our number one priority is to keep Bruno at Flamengo, to make him what Rogério Ceni is at São Paulo. Even though he wasn't raised at Flamengo, he has a strong connection with the fans and the club. We're working with investors to keep him here," he confirms in a statement to Sportv.
Bruno made his Flamengo debut on September 2nd of last year, when the Red-Black team lost 2-1 to Internacional at the Maracanã. Since then, he has played 73 more games for Flamengo, with whom he won the Guanabara Cup and the State Championship, both this year.
