Along with the drop in attendance compared to the Brazilian Championship, Flamengo's performance in the State Championship dropped. Macaé's defense didn't give Flamengo's attack any leeway
The narrow victory, the team's worst performance of the season, took the wind out of coach Joel Santana's sails, who repeatedly complained to the team and was even booed by some fans. But after the ordeal, what's worth celebrating are the three points that secured Flamengo sole leadership of Group A, with a 100% record. The coach took responsibility and admitted that the team's defensive posture was his own doing.

24-year marriage nearing its end

Flamengo's board's patience with Petrobras' indecision to accept its contract renewal proposal appears to have run out. The partnership has lasted 24 years, but since December of last year, the club no longer has a formal agreement with the state-owned oil company, despite maintaining the brand on the official jersey. However, the club's directors are already considering removing it from the uniform.
Until the end of 2007, Petrobras was giving Flamengo R$14 million per year. The company's new proposal would increase this share to R$15,7 million per year. "Yes, there is a possibility, we are still studying it. Until we find a new sponsor, we would be left without any brand on the shirt. Even so, I understand that Petrobras should reimburse Flamengo for the brand promotion, although this is not guaranteed," explained the director.
There's already talk in Gávea that a Spanish bank could become the club's new partner for the next five years. The Europeans would reportedly be willing to pay the amount Flamengo is asking for.
Outside of negotiations for a new contract, the club suffered a major setback yesterday. Judge Ana Paula de Carvalho ruled that 5% of Flamengo's annual sponsorship quota should be allocated to paying off the debt owed to supporter Petkovic, who played for the club for three years.
Fla wants to play at Engenhão in a peaceful atmosphere
To put an end to the controversy surrounding the opening of the Engenhão stadium for the match between Flamengo and América next Saturday, the Flamengo board intends to organize a peace rally. Although not the home team, the club knows its fans will be the majority at the stadium, and so it has informed Botafogo, which manages the Engenhão stadium, that it will be responsible for any damages that may occur.

Toró celebrates with Léo Moura Flamengo's only goal against Macaé
Without playing the same style as in their victory over Duque de Caxias, Flamengo defeated Macaé 1-0 on Wednesday night at Maracanã. Toró scored the goal that secured their 100% record in the Guanabara Cup. Flamengo drops to fifth place in Group A with five points. In the next round, Flamengo faces América at Engenhão Stadium, and Macaé hosts Duque de Caxias at Moacyr de Azevedo Stadium.
Flamengo started at a strong pace, and just a minute into the match, Jônatas delivered a beautiful pass to Léo Moura, but the full-back pushed the ball too far forward, missing the first opportunity. However, it wouldn't be long before Flamengo opened the scoring. A cross from Ronaldo Angelim resulted in Marcinho heading the ball over the opposing goalkeeper, and Toró pounced on the rebound. Rio de Janeiro (RJ) - Despite not playing great football, Flamengo secured its fourth consecutive victory in the Taça Guanabara, the first round of the Campeonato Carioca, with a 1-0 victory over Macaé on Wednesday night at Maracanã. With this, the Rubro-Negro, whose goal was scored by Toró, reached 12 points, leading Group A and boasting a 100% record. Macaé, which remained with five points, played without Andrezinho, Marcinho, and Bruno Mezenga, who are on loan from Flamengo. A verbal agreement between the two clubs prevented the trio from playing in clashes between the two teams. The Rio de Janeiro Football Federation (Ferj) confirmed on Wednesday that Flamengo vs. América will be played at the Engenhão stadium next Saturday at 16 p.m. (Brasília time) for the fifth round of the Guanabara Cup, the first round of the State Championship. Botafogo president Bebeto de Freitas, however, stated that he has not yet released the stadium, which his club will manage for the next 20 years.
"Botafogo learned on Tuesday that the game would be at the stadium. They can't schedule a game without the approval of whoever is taking care of the stadium, which is not public but belongs to Botafogo during the concession period. We want to collaborate, we want other games to be held here, but we sent a document to the Federation, requesting clarification on several issues, since everything must be done professionally," explained the director.
"We hope that the Federation, Flamengo, and América sign the document, assuming responsibility for the game, otherwise it won't be held here. The Federation already knows the rental price, for example. We'll rent the stadium like any other club, and that's why we need guarantees," he added.
In addition to the bureaucratic and logistical issues of not having been officially notified about the game, Botafogo's board fears hostile behavior from Flamengo fans at the stadium, due to the fierce rivalry. The club's directors even published an official statement on their website asking their fans to behave civilly in the stadium.
Flamengo vs. América was previously scheduled for Carnival Sunday at 18:10 p.m. at Maracanã, but was rescheduled at the request of the Military Police, who would not be able to handle security for the match and the samba school parades simultaneously.

Journalist Pedro Costa, head of the organization's communications department, confirms what's written in the schedule. "Botafogo won't be able to prevent the match from taking place. They claim the stadium isn't fit to host a game on Saturday due to changes made for Carnival, but this Wednesday, Botafogo vs. Mesquita will take place. This is incoherent. This is Bebeto's doing. We'll inspect the venue this Thursday, and the stadium will be fit to host the match. It's a game without much appeal; the worst that could happen is a capacity limit."
The journalist disagrees with Ferj itself when he says he doesn't consider the match a classic. "If we analyze it from América's current perspective, we can't say it's a classic. I also don't believe Flamengo said it doesn't have home advantage, since this issue wasn't discussed in meetings with the Federation."

Article 9 of the Carioca Championship regulations stipulates that all derbies in the competition must be held at Maracanã. The second paragraph states that matches between Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense, and Vasco are considered derbies, and in matches not involving two of these clubs, home-field advantage is given to the associations placed to the left of the table. The controversy arose when Ferj itself declared on its official website that Flamengo vs. América is a derbie (see reproduction above), and, in turn, Flamengo president Márcio Braga stated that the Rubro-Negro is not the home team, contrary to the table's indications.

The idea is to secure one of the two Group A spots in the next match, against América. To do so, Flamengo needs to win and hope that Boavista and Cardoso Moreira stumble against, respectively, Fluminense and Volta Redonda. "If we beat América, I think we're through. And then I can breathe a sigh of relief. How can I be upset with a team that has a 100% record?"
The routine of Wednesday and Sunday games prevents Joel from training as much as he would like. As a result, many players are already showing significant physical fatigue, such as Fábio Luciano and Obina. Kléberson: 'I'm back as a player'

After nearly four months of training alone, Kléberson was finally able to make his debut in a Flamengo jersey. It was only 13 minutes, true, but it was enough for him to "break the ice."
"I'm back as a soccer player. I felt uncontrollable joy. I'm so happy this day has come, and I'm here at Flamengo. It's a new life. I want to work hard and get into the rhythm of the others," says the five-time champion.
He came on in the 35th minute of the second half in place of Jônatas and played a small part in the match. He misplaced some passes, made some, and began to find his famous "game rhythm." Coach Joel Santana urged the player to remain calm.

Flamengo will launch a crusade for "peace" at Engenhão from Wednesday to Saturday. The club is concerned about the possibility of any type of vandalism at Botafogo's stadium during the match against América in the fifth round of the Campeonato Carioca.
"We sent an official statement asking our fans not to vandalize the Engenhão Stadium. But we will also campaign to make this a "peace game,"" says president Márcio Braga by phone from Brasília.
There is the possibility that the board will distribute leaflets at the stadium entrance and the players will make public requests for the fans to preserve the black and white stadium.
