Gavilán, who played in the tournament four times, is praised upon his arrival at Flamengo

As he prepared to present Gavilán yesterday in Gávea, Flamengo's vice president of football, Kléber Leite, deviated from the norm. He said he wasn't "presenting just a player, but a man in the true sense of the word." The Paraguayan's demeanor in negotiating his contract, exposing the problem he had with his right knee, and accepting the conditions proposed by Flamengo won over the club. Experienced after playing in four Libertadores Cups, Gavilán quickly became a candidate to be the new leader of the squad, alongside Fábio Luciano.
Gavilán's confidence in his potential impressed the club's management. The player will be constantly evaluated and agreed to a short-term contract, which doesn't have a salary tied to the number of games played. Gavilán signed a three-month contract, extendable for another three months and then for another six. Thus, Flamengo will have two windows throughout the year to assess whether the medical issue is affecting the midfielder's performance. Even so, to give Flamengo a comfortable position, Gavilán agreed to a low release clause.
- His frankness and loyalty are admirable - said Kléber Leite.
Gavilán said he doesn't arrive as the owner of a position:
"Just because I was hired doesn't mean I'm the one and ten others. If there's someone better than me, I'll support them. In the Libertadores, I've seen weak teams win because of a good locker room atmosphere. We have a wonderful fan base. Let's build a group and perform on the field."
For Joel, it's peak season time
Suspended for assaulting Valdívia in the last Brazilian Championship while playing for Grêmio, Gavilán will only be able to play in the start of the State Championship if part of his sentence is converted into food baskets. Speaking about the Libertadores, he warned that anything goes in the competition:
"I've seen it all. The ball boys and the fans play. The refereeing is different. They don't call as many fouls as in Brazil. It's harsher."
A short contract, incidentally, also made 20-year-old forward Éder the other new face on Flamengo's first day of training. After securing his release from Guarani in court, he signed for the State Championship, during which he will be evaluated by Joel, who admitted he doesn't know him. If he's pleased, he'll sign a contract until December.
"I play on the wings. I think I'm a good match for Souza. But I can score goals too," says Éder.
During the rematch, Flamengo was unable to officially present Jônatas, who trained. Espanyol failed to submit the transfer documentation. Goalkeeper Bruno, meanwhile, didn't arrive for the morning training session. He claimed he was in the group that would undergo physical tests in the afternoon. However, all the players in his group trained in the morning.
Seeing the new group on the field excited coach Joel Santana:
"On paper, it looks good. That's not enough. We've got 90% of the 2007 squad and have reinforced it. Gávea is happy. But here, only a win keeps things happy. So, I'm not even talking about preseason. It's high season. Soon, the debut will come, followed by a Fla-Flu match (February 10th) and a trip to Peru for the Libertadores."
The Diego Tardelli case is still far from over. Flamengo has proposed to São Paulo to pay the $1 million in installments the club expects to transfer the striker, who is interested in Palmeiras and Santos. São Paulo is expected to respond only on Monday.
The future is in Ronaldo's hands
MADRID. The Spanish newspaper "As" reported yesterday that Ronaldo could repeat, with Milan, what he did to swap Internazionale for Real Madrid in 2002. Interested in going to Flamengo, he could force his release.
Flamengo, in fact, plans to present a project to Ronaldo and wait for him to negotiate his departure with Milan.
The Italian team's coach, Carlo Ancelotti, said that Ronaldo has never expressed any interest in leaving and that the matter is only discussed in Brazil. Milan is in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, for a training period. Ronaldo, however, hopes to be used by the coach. Otherwise, he may be convinced that leaving is the best option.

Big dreams for 2008
With some major reinforcements, the club is expecting a special year. Ronaldo and Tardelli are still negotiating.
Thiago Bokel and Nathan Lima
Ronaldo has changed his style and has long hair. He wants to relive his glory days.
A month after the celebration and euphoria of qualifying for the Libertadores, the Flamengo group will meet again today at 9am in Gávea to begin preparations for 2008. Fans will see some new faces, but expectations are on who might still arrive.
In addition to signing midfielder Kleberson in October, the Flamengo board has strengthened the defense and midfield. Defender Rodrigo and defensive midfielders Gavilán and Jônatas will be tasked with maintaining Flamengo's reputation for having one of the best defenses in the country. Another new arrival is midfielder Marcinho, signed from Atlético-MG. However, a striker is still missing.
In this sense, vice-president of football Kleber Leite is optimistic, even with Ronaldo having traveled to Dubai to rejoin Milan, and now having two strong competitors in the dispute for Diego Tardelli: Santos and Palmeiras.
"I just had a meeting with Ricardo Hinrichsen, José Carlos Dias, and Plinio Serpa Pinto about Ronaldo's situation. There's no major news. Ricardo will prepare a marketing plan to present to Ronaldo next week. I'm very confident. As for Tardelli, Palmeiras and Santos have every right to make an offer, but we're still in the running. I spoke with São Paulo's board, but nothing has been finalized yet. We'll continue to fight for him," explained Kleber Leite.
Although Ronaldo has become a bit more distant due to the obstacles Milan is putting in place, collaborator Plinio Serpa Pinto remains hopeful for a happy ending to this saga. The striker even spent New Year's Eve in Angra dos Reis wearing a Flamengo jersey.
"The expectation is that Ronaldo will be with us in the Libertadores, but the idea of bringing him now is not easy. If I say too much, it will hinder the project, but we are doing this with simplicity and we count on the player's goodwill. We are working hard to make this signing happen as quickly as possible," said the collaborator.
The group will depart tomorrow afternoon for Teresópolis, where they will stay until the 14th. After that, they will spend another week in Rio preparing for their Carioca debut on the 20th against Boavista at the Maracanã. For a season that promises to go down in Flamengo's history, the first page will be written today.
Newcomer Éder dreams of a packed Maracanã
The promise made by vice president of football Kleber Leite arrived yesterday, quietly, almost unnoticed. Twenty-year-old striker Éder, who had been with Guarani for eight years, secured his release from the club through the courts due to unpaid wages. A standout in the 20 Série B, scoring nine goals, he usually plays as a second striker.
"It's a dream to play for this club. It hasn't sunk in yet. I've never played in a packed stadium, but I'm ready to face a full Maracanã," said Éder.

Gavilán signed autographs for fans in Gávea
Midfielder Gavilán, whose signing was threatened by knee problems, was finally presented yesterday at Gávea, along with the entire Flamengo squad. The Paraguayan arrived looking a bit angry, but admitted he was very happy to have signed a risky contract with the club.
"The joy of being here, with this wonderful, immense crowd. I took on the responsibility of playing here and so I have to take it seriously. The whole group has to honor this shirt, let's start the year off right," said the defensive midfielder.
Gavilán, who has already defended the colors of Internacional and Grêmio, arrived already thinking about winning the Libertadores and warned that Flamengo has to use the weight of its shirt to be able to intimidate less important opponents.
"We know how big Flamengo is. We have to use the weight of this jersey to be able to impose ourselves and win all the competitions. In the Libertadores, a strong group alone isn't enough; we have to know how to take care of our emotions," he added.
Rodrigo and Jonatas train in Gávea
Defender Rodrigo stepped onto the Gávea pitch for the first time yesterday to continue the physical training he began shortly after Christmas in Jundiaí, São Paulo. The player is still visibly out of shape, but he dedicated himself immensely during the training sessions. Jonatas, who, like Rodrigo, was also signed to start for Flamengo in the Copa Libertadores, trained normally in both periods yesterday, but his official presentation will only take place next Monday, as the club's directors are waiting for Espanyol's permission to resolve his situation.
The saga surrounding the signing of forwards Diego Tardelli and Ronaldo Fenômeno gained another chapter yesterday in Gávea. The former's situation appears to be getting more complicated, as with Santos and Palmeiras in contention, Joel Santana's chances of counting on the player's goals have diminished. According to vice president of football, Kleber Leite, the athlete's situation has begun to worsen.
"São Paulo already knows about our plans, but the situation is getting complicated," said the director.
Regarding Ronaldo, the news seems better. According to the Spanish newspaper "As," he will request a trade with Flamengo.

Bruno confesses that he has not yet signed a contract with Flamengo for the 2008 season

Bruno wants to stay at Flamengo, but has not yet agreed on his contract renewal.
Amid the relaxed atmosphere that gripped the players at Flamengo's return to training yesterday in Gávea, the coaching staff seemed concerned. This is because one of the team's key players, goalkeeper Bruno, was absent from the club that morning and only arrived late in the afternoon. However, despite the relief at the arrival of his number 1, coach Joel Santana has no reason to celebrate. The player's new contract has not yet been signed.
Bruno himself confirmed that the renewal hasn't been finalized yet. In a few words, he summed up his apprehension, with a shy smile:
"Xiiii... I haven't signed it yet," he revealed.
The reason for the delay, according to vice president of football Kleber Leite, is very simple:
"Eduardo Uram (Bruno's manager) is on vacation, but he should be back on Monday. When he arrives, we'll sit down to sort out the final details. We have until the 20th to see that through," explained Kleber Leite.
The director, in fact, is being cautious in announcing the goalkeeper's renewal. Since Bruno only showed up at the club late in the day, there was an expectation he wouldn't even show up yesterday. Just as happened in June of last year, the board is needing a lot of patience to convince the leadership of MSI, the investment fund that holds the player's federation rights, to agree to his stay at Flamengo.
Now, the situation seems easier to resolve, as the group has already agreed to pay off Bruno's sale to the club in installments. The problem is that to close the deal, the board was counting on the money coming from FlaTV, which was scheduled to launch yesterday but was postponed until the 15th.
Even without a contract, Bruno will travel with the rest of the group to Teresópolis today, where the team will conduct preseason training at Granja Comary. On the first day of training this year, the red-and-black fans already have a serious reason to worry, as the great wall has not yet confirmed its presence in 2008.

Point guard Duda shone in the State Championship and is ready for the National Championship
Next Sunday, Flamengo will make its debut in the National Basketball Championship. The team will travel to Rio Grande do Sul, where it will face Lajeado. At Gávea, no one hides that the competition is their ultimate dream, after all, the club has never lifted the Brazilian championship trophy. Of the current squad, Duda and Alírio boast the coveted title and promise to help the club achieve the feat. The point guard and center were part of the Brasília team that won the 06/07 edition, and will seek their second national title this time in Gávea. The Brasília team's campaign was impeccable, with only three losses in the entire competition (two to Franca and one to Minas). If it's up to Duda, Flamengo will do better than his former club this year.
"Today's Flamengo is very similar to that Brasília. They are both very offensive, aggressive, and strong defensive teams. Counter-attacking is our greatest weapon, just like it was in Brasília. I think the club has the potential to be champions this year, even if they have a more brilliant campaign than last year's champion," he said.
Duda has been at Gávea since August. Since then, he has competed in the Liga das Américas and the State Championship, which he won. Indeed, the triumph in the Rio de Janeiro competition is, for the player, a testament to Flamengo's power.
"When we went to Gávea, we never imagined the State Championship would be the way it was. The partnerships and the presence of the Brazilian champion only added value. And we only came out on top, because the title showed that we are on the right path," he said.
And it's not just Duda who's confident. Alírio also believes Flamengo is on its way to victory.
"The first step has already been taken. The club has assembled a good squad and I see that everyone is focused on winning the title. With concentration, everything becomes easier," said the center.

Mariana Brochado is overjoyed to try to qualify for Beijing
Rio de Janeiro beauty Mariana Brochado, 23, confirmed she will stay with Flamengo for another season, despite receiving offers from clubs in other states. This year, she will attempt to qualify for the 200m and 400m freestyle and the 4x200m relay for the Beijing Olympics.
"I had offers from other teams. But I didn't see a reason to change. It would significantly alter my routine. It's an Olympic year, and I preferred to stay with my coach of seven years (Marcos Lamah), in my hometown, so as not to have any problems adapting," said Mariana.
Tranquility
Not qualifying for the Pan American Games was a hard lesson and she hopes to train without so much fuss.
"I think the focus will now be entirely on Thiago Pereira. In a way, it's good not to be talked about so much. The pressure an athlete puts on herself is already immense. The pace is tough, but I'll train hard and try to compete in several competitions. I'll arrive in better shape for the Maria Lenk Trophy in May."
She, however, is confident that the Brazilian girls will do well.
"Despite Rebeca's departure, we have strong swimmers for the relay and individual events. So far, only Flávia Delaroli has the required qualification, but I'm betting heavily on Fabíola Molina. This year is very strong, and all the athletes will perform at their best."
Mariana Brochado is eagerly awaiting to find out whether or not she will be selected for the South American Championship, which will be held in March in the city of São Paulo.
"The official call-up hasn't been released yet, and I'm unsure whether or not I'll compete in this competition. It would be important, but as I said, my focus is on the Maria Lenk Trophy in May."

The year in review
Luiz Augusto Veloso laveloso@jsports.com.br
The year draws to a close without the sport being in full swing. All the important events have already happened: the titles, the records, the great victories, the historic defeats. In recent days, the headlines have focused on transfer speculation, a time when the media exposes itself, revealing more clearly the responsibility with which it approaches the news or its perspective. 2007 was São Paulo's year, due to the manner in which it won the Brazilian championship. But, above all, it was the year of Corinthians' debacle, with its irretrievable relegation to the second division of Brazilian football. It was also the year Brazil proved its capacity to organize decent world-class events like the Rio Pan American Games.
For Rio's soccer scene, there's no denying that this year was a red-and-black one. With the Rio title in the first half of the year and the irresistible and consecrating run in the Brazilian Championship, which put them back in the Copa Libertadores alongside Fluminense with their first-ever Copa do Brasil.
Among the episodes to be lamented are the resignation of the president of Corinthians and the discrediting, inexplicable and pathetic soap opera of the doping of swimmer Rebeca Gusmão.
\ Flamengo's Ronaldo signing may be as viable as Romário's signing in 1995. But, from what has emerged so far, it is, for now, an unbelievable marketing ploy with international reach. I want to emphasize this even now.\
A meeting is likely in the coming days between the club's vice president, Kleber Leite, and Milan's vice president, Adriano Galliani, who has adopted an apartment in Leblon as his second home. Negotiations could then begin.

Flamengo: Flu, the rival to beat
Joel says his goal in the State Championship is to win the title twice and equal the Tricolor's titles.
Rio - The first Flamengo-Flu match of the year won't be played until February 10th, in the Taça GB. But the rivalry, heated in the last Brazilian Championship, is still raging in Gávea. When the team and reinforcements Rodrigo, Marcinho, Éder, Gavilán, and Jônatas returned yesterday, coach Joel Santana announced that Flamengo has only one goal in this State Championship: to be (two-time) champion and equal the Tricolor's 30 titles (one more than the red-and-blacks).
To that end, the coach expects his 30 players to dedicate themselves fully to the demanding physical preparation routine, which begins tomorrow at Granja Comary (Teresópolis), so that the team is ready to go in no more than 15 days. Joel plans to play friendlies before debuting in the State Championship on the 20th against Boavista.
"We're not going to talk about preseason, we're going to talk about the high season, pushing hard for the team to fight for the title. These are two teams that have strengthened themselves to compete in the Libertadores and have everything they need to make the State Championship even more competitive. Not to mention that Flamengo will have the first opportunity to match Fluminense's number of titles," Joel enthuses.
The documentation for defensive midfielder Jônatas, who was at Espanyol, has not yet reached the club. Therefore, despite training yesterday, Jônatas will only be officially presented as a Flamengo player on Monday in Teresópolis.
Also on Monday, vice president of football Kléber Leite is waiting for a response from São Paulo regarding the negotiation involving striker Diego Tardelli, which has become more complicated with the emergence of new clubs interested in the Morumbi player.
"São Paulo has opened new avenues in negotiations for the player, who is of interest to other teams. We'll have to wait longer for a decision," the director commented.
Éder arrives without the coach's approval
Joel Santana doesn't know Éder, the 20-year-old forward who showed up at Gávea yesterday. But Kléber Leiter assures he's been eyeing his signing for a long time. A product of his Guarani talent, the forward signed a contract until the end of the State Championship, but Kléber is betting he'll stay longer at Gávea.
Excited about the opportunity to take advantage of the red-and-black showcase to showcase his football, Éder promises to do his utmost to please Joel and the fans.
"I'm very happy to play for Flamengo, a club of great stature. I have different characteristics than Souza, as I play more on the wings, using my speed," he explained.
The coach hopes Éder and Kléber are right: "I have nothing to say about the player. I'll only be able to make an assessment when the ball rolls. I hope he hits the mark on the field."
Gavilán wants to make history at Rubro-Negro
Gavilán's presentation was met with praise: a man of character, honest, and a man of his word. Kléber Leite said so. But the Paraguayan is not mistaken: he knows that the biggest factor in deciding whether to hire him was his experience competing in the Copa Libertadores.
Gavilán, who agreed to sign a risky contract because he suffers from a chronic problem in his right knee, says he won't settle for just the South American title. He also hopes to win the State Championship, to experience firsthand the power of the red-and-black fans, whom he heard about when he was still living in his home country.
"The Flamengo fans are wonderful, there's nothing more to say. I know I was hired for my experience in the Libertadores, a competition I compete in with dedication. But anyone who comes to Flamengo should think about winning every title," says the new Flamengo player.
Confident of a strong season, Gavilán warns that the Gávea club will have no reason to suspend his contract. "I believe this clause will be shelved, forgotten," he said.
Spanish newspaper says Ronaldo will ask Milan for his release
Phenomenon could reinforce Flamengo in the first half of 2008
Dubai - Milan striker Ronaldo has arrived in Dubai, the Italian club's preseason training camp, to request his release before his contract expires so he can sign with Flamengo later this semester. This information was reported Thursday by the Spanish newspaper "As."
Ronaldo's transfer from Real Madrid to Milan was very similar. Inter Milan was in the lead in negotiations, but Ronaldo prevailed and signed with the Italian club.
However, the Italian newspaper "La Gazetta dello Sportes" highlights that Milan's directors are not at all inclined to release the player. The intention is to bring him back this semester and, in June, when his current contract expires, move towards a renewal.

Ancelotti denies Ronaldo's negotiations with Flamengo
Rio de Janeiro (RJ) - In his first press conference of 2008, held this Thursday, coach Carlo Ancelotti denied that striker Ronaldo is determined to leave Milan for Flamengo, refuting statements recently made by the Brazilian club's vice-president Kleber Leite. 'As far as I know, Ronaldo has never expressed any desire to leave Milan,' the coach assured. 'The issue of a possible transfer to Flamengo was discussed only in Brazil and has no bearing on the player's wishes,' he added.
Ancelotti took the opportunity to reiterate that he is counting on Ronaldo for the remainder of the European season. "Ronaldo is fully available to the team, he is a player I still trust, and we hope that he can resume training with the ball in the next few days."
On Thursday morning in Dubai, the athlete performed only the physical portion of the activities alongside the rest of the Rossoneri squad. The team is training in the United Arab Emirates city before the resumption of the Italian Championship and the Champions League.
The player continues to recover from a calf muscle injury that ruled him out of the Club World Cup last month. However, despite the repeated injuries he's been experiencing, the Brazilian has Ancelotti's support.
"Even if Ronaldo's recovery is deemed impossible, I personally never asked the club's management to sign new strikers," the Italian coach stated. "At the end of the January negotiation period, the team will remain unchanged," he concluded.
Colonel Bolognesi agrees to renew contract with Mexican defender
Lima (Peru) - A member of Group 4 of the Libertadores and Flamengo's opponent in the opening match, Peruvian Coronel Bolognesi secured the retention of a key player. Defender Miguel Ostersen has extended his contract for two more seasons. The Mexican player will return to Peru on January 15th. "Now, I want to focus on my work in Peru," Ostersen said.
However, Ostersen defined a contractual clause regarding a future offer from abroad. The player continues to aim to play in a market with greater visibility.
“There is an agreement that I will be released if I receive an offer from a team abroad,” Ostersen warned.

Unknown striker Éder is hired by Fla

Flamengo's players returned to training this Thursday, and there was a new development. 20-year-old forward Éder, who was playing for Guarani, signed a contract with the Gávea club that runs until the end of the state championship.
Striker Éder and midfielder Gavilán speak to journalists this Thursday at Fla
Excited about the leap in his professional career, the new alternative for the red-black attacking line presents his credentials: "I'm not a box player, like Souza. I try to move around a lot, dropping to the sides, but I know how to score goals. I'm very happy to be able to wear this shirt," he highlighted, in an interview with Rádio Brasil.
Éder obtained his release from Bugre through the courts. The Campinas club owed the player wages and FGTS (Fund Fund for the Severance Indemnity Fund) deposits, and he was considered a welcome revelation.
The possibility, even if still remote, of playing alongside Ronaldo, a major goal for the Flamengo board, excites the young striker. "I'm a fan of his. My first dream is to be at Flamengo, and my second would be to play alongside him," Éder revealed.

After his absence was felt during training this Thursday morning, goalkeeper Bruno returned to Flamengo late in the afternoon. Upon arriving at Gávea, the goalkeeper promptly went to the football department, likely to explain his absence during the first period of training, something he hadn't done before.
After a quick chat, Bruno put on his training uniform and moved around the pitch, accompanied by members of the Rubro-Negro coaching staff.
One of the team's standout players in 2007, the goalkeeper has agreed to stay with Flamengo for another four years. The contract, however, has not yet been signed.
Milan coach says Ronaldo wants to stay at the club

Ronaldo participates in training with the Milan squad in the United Arab Emirates
AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti said Thursday that striker Ronaldo has never shown any desire to leave the Italian club. The statement was made during a press conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where the team is training for a friendly against the Italian national team on the 8th.
"He has never expressed any desire to leave Milan. The possibility of a transfer to Flamengo is something that arose in Brazil, and that doesn't mean it reflects the player's wishes," Ancelotti told the Italian club's official website.
After spending the New Year's Eve holidays in Brazil (he reportedly wore a Flamengo jersey for New Year's Eve, according to the newspaper "O Globo"), Ronaldo traveled to represent Milan in Dubai. The striker has been plagued by muscle injuries and played only one match in the 2007-2008 Italian Championship season.
"Ronaldo remains available to the team and is a player I continue to believe in. We hope that in the next few days he will be able to train with the ball," Ancelotti continued.
The coach said he doesn't intend to ask for attacking reinforcements if Ronaldo's return is delayed again. "I won't ask for a striker to be signed even if his return is deemed impossible."
"The inclusion of Alexandre Pato [who depends on CBF clearance to make his official debut] will give us several alternatives. I'm convinced that the squad, even with the reopening of the market in January, will remain the same," the coach added.
Interest in signing Ronaldo has been Flamengo's main news story since late 2007. Initially, the Italian club downplayed Flamengo's desire and stated in an official statement that it was not authorized to discuss a possible transfer. Then, on the 26th, Milan admitted the talks.
Flamengo has already announced that it is preparing an "arsenal" to sign the "Phenomenon," who has already declared himself a Flamengo fan. On the 31st, vice president of football Kléber Leite said the deadline for an agreement is two weeks.
Released from the professional ranks, Paulo Sérgio will play for Flamengo in the Copa SP
From UOL Esporte\ In Rio de Janeiro\
Flamengo's U-20 team will have a significant reinforcement for the Copa São Paulo, which begins this weekend. Striker Paulo Sérgio will not continue with the professional squad, having been cleared to participate in the youth competition.
At just 18 years old (June 11, 6), Rio de Janeiro native Paulo Sérgio Luiz de Souza has already played 1989 matches for Flamengo's senior squad, scoring three goals. U-20 coach Rogério Moraes is banking on the forward's experience for a good performance in the Copinha.
Rogério, in fact, knows the tournament well, having competed in it in the 80s, when he was already a promising defender in Flamengo's youth ranks. He made his professional debut in 88, with a total of 268 appearances (19 goals) for the Gávea club.

Fla debuts this Saturday in Copinha
The team is looking to repeat the 1990 title, when it revealed Djalminha, Marcelinho and Paulo Nunes
Flamengo kicks off the São Paulo Junior Football Cup this Saturday, January 5th, against Nacional-AM in Piracicaba. In addition to the Amazonas team, the Rio de Janeiro team will face XV de Piracicaba-SP and Ypiranga-AP in the group stage. The most recognizable name on the team, which will be managed by coach Rogério, is expected to be striker Paulo Sérgio, who has already played a few matches for the senior team. The only time Flamengo has won this tournament was in 1990, with a team that produced players like Djalminha, Marcelinho Carioca, Paulo Nunes, and Júnior Baiano (watch the video above to relive the achievement).
From the 2007 youth team, which won three state championships, the BH Cup, and the Otávio Pinto Guimarães Cup (OPG) twice, few players will be in the competition, as the tournament regulations require players born in 1989 or later. Therefore, some youth players born in 1990 will be used. Fans will be able to see some promising players on the field, such as goalkeeper Marcelo, defenders Lucas and Fabrício, and midfielder Bruno.
Coach Adílio, as well as some better-known names, such as Kayke, Bruno Mezenga, Erick Flores and Vinicius Colombiano are on vacation and will only return to prepare for the State Championship, a competition in which the juniors are seeking their fourth title.
Fla's possible lineup to face Nacional-AM: Marcelo; Michel, Lucas, Fabrício and Jobson; Lenon, Wellington, Bruno and Guilherme; Paulo Sérgio and Vinícius.
Fla's games in the first phase:
05/01 - 17pm - Flamengo x Nacional-AM
09/01 - 20:30 pm - Ypiranga-AP x Flamengo
13/01 - 18:10 p.m. - XV de Piracicaba-SP x Flamengo

Diego Tardelli: news only on Monday
Flamengo's expectation of advancing negotiations with São Paulo striker Diego Tardelli this Thursday was not realized. According to the club's vice president of football, Kléber Leite, there will only be any news next Monday. The Flamengo director stated that he would spend this afternoon in contact with the club's vice president of football, Carlos Augusto Barros e Silva, known as Leco, but the clubs have not yet reached an agreement. The São Paulo directors agree to negotiate the player, but not on loan. They want to sell the athlete's federation rights for US$1 million.

Rodrigo and Jônatas at Flamengo training
Rodrigo, one of Flamengo's five new signings for 2008, trained for the first time at Gávea and expressed confidence for the season. The defender noted that the core squad has been maintained and that this will be important for the team to gain faster chemistry for the Campeonato Carioca and the Copa Libertadores.
"We have about 15 days to improve our physical performance and assimilate coach Joel Santana's wishes. I believe that, since Flamengo has maintained last year's core squad, team chemistry won't be the biggest challenge. The players already know each other, and we'll start the competitions at a high pace," the defender stated.
In addition to Rodrigo, the other players signed were: Kleberson, Jônatas, Marcinho, Gavilán and Éder (who was presented this Thursday).

Joel Santana doesn't hide the moment of happiness he's experiencing at Flamengo
Thursday was a reunion day at Gávea. The players and coaching staff returned to the club to begin preparations for the 2008 season. Since Flamengo maintained its core team, few new faces appeared at the club: Rodrigo, Jonatas, Gavilán, Marcinho, and Éder. Coach Joel Santana was one of the most cheerful. He revealed that he greatly missed the club and the contact with the players, fans, and press.
"Flamengo isn't missing anything; everything is calm, Gávea is happy. Let's not talk about preseason, let's talk about the high season, and get going. Christmas was beautiful, New Year's was wonderful, but I was already missing all this here, the fans and the press. The only way to maintain this happiness is through victories," he says.

Midfielder Jônatas, one of Flamengo's signings for the Copa Libertadores, trained with his teammates this Thursday at Gávea. His official presentation in the red-and-black jersey, however, will only take place next Monday at Granja Comary in Teresópolis, where the club is conducting its preseason. The board is just waiting for Espanyol to send the release documents.
Regarding the other players Flamengo is interested in, Diego Tardelli and Ronaldo, Kléber Leite said there could be some news regarding the former as early as Thursday. The Flamengo executive will spend the afternoon negotiating with São Paulo's directors. Regarding the Ronaldo case, he reiterated that nothing new has happened.
"Regarding Diego Tardelli, I'll negotiate with Leco (São Paulo director) to see if we can find a solution. Regarding Ronaldo, the matter is in his hands. We have nothing more to say at this point," he says.

Éder, alongside midfielder Gavilán, is presented in Gávea
Flamengo unveiled a 20-year-old attacking prospect this Thursday morning: Éder, who came through the ranks of Guarani's youth academy. He signed a contract with the club until the end of the Campeonato Carioca, when he will be evaluated and, if approved, will have his contract extended. Kléber Leite, the club's vice president of football, said he had been eyeing the player for some time. Éder was in a dispute with the São Paulo club, which owes him wages and a severance package.
"Éder has been under observation by Flamengo for some time. He'll stay with us until the end of the Carioca Championship, and then he'll be evaluated. He might stay with us longer," he says.
The young striker was very excited when talking about the challenge of playing for a big club. His strengths include speed and wing play, and he dreams of earning Joel Santana's trust and extending his contract with the club.
"I'm very happy to be playing in the Carioca Championship for Flamengo and, who knows, maybe stay here for many years. I don't even need to mention how great this club is. I have different characteristics than Souza; I'm more mobile, I play on the wings, using speed. But I don't just like to set up players; every striker thrives on goals. I believe I'll get my chance with the team and hope to do my best," says Éder, who attended the Maracanã for the 2007 State Championship final and was enchanted by the Flamengo fans.
Éder also commented on the possibility of playing alongside Ronaldo. For him, it would be another dream come true.
"When I learned I was coming to Flamengo and that the club wanted Ronaldo, I was thrilled at the prospect of playing with him. It would be another dream come true," he says.
Coach Joel Santana, for his part, prefers to be cautious with the player. He says he's not yet familiar with Éder's work.
"I'll see, I don't have anything to say about it yet. Only when the ball rolls will I be able to make an assessment," he says.

Gavilán is presented in Gávea alongside young striker Éder
It's a day of re-presentation and new faces for Flamengo, which is beginning preparations for the Campeonato Carioca and the Copa Libertadores. One of the new faces was midfielder Gavilán, who arrived late due to a flight but was introduced late in the morning. The club's vice president of football, Kléber Leite, was in charge of doing the honors. He had high praise for the Paraguayan, who, according to the director, has shown himself to be a person of great character. Gavilán's experience in the continent's most prestigious competition was decisive for Flamengo to invest in him. He said that other teams, such as Coritiba and Botafogo, were interested in him.
Dating with Fla
"Flamengo was the club that showed interest in me right at the end of the Brasileirão and handled the negotiations seriously. I would be sad if I didn't play here. I'm incredibly happy now, but I know it's a huge responsibility. We have to take it seriously on the field, not just me, but the whole group."
Controversy over the risk contract
"Things were a bit rushed, but we resolved everything like men. We sat down and reached an agreement. Flamengo has the right to terminate my contract if I have any knee problems. I trust the professionals I'll be working with here at the club, and I believe this clause will be left in the drawer, forgotten."
America's Libertadores
"Often, players compete in the Libertadores just for the sake of it, which isn't my case. In this competition, you need a strong team on and off the field. It's important to have a strong locker room, ball boys, fans...anything goes to disrupt the opponent."
Competition in midfield
"I don't think I'm ahead because I've played in four Libertadores. I'm just one of a group that had a wonderful Brazilian Championship. The coach is always the one who decides that. If I were on the bench, I'd handle it calmly. It's better to have players left over than to have no players; the group is always the most important thing."
Controversy with Valdivia, from Palmeiras
“That game upset everyone, and I fell for his provocation.”
Red-black fans
“Flamengo's fans are wonderful, a special case, we don't even need to say anything.”
Ronaldo in Dubai to request release
Information was published this Thursday on the website of the Spanish newspaper "As"
Kaká and Ronaldo at Milan training
The European press has ratcheted up the excitement surrounding Ronaldo's departure from Milan. This Thursday, newspapers in Italy and Spain highlighted the situation. The Spanish newspaper "As" went even further, claiming that the "Phenomenon" arrived in Dubai, where his team is preparing for the second half of the season, with one goal: to request a transfer to Flamengo.
The newspaper recalled the story of when Ronaldo signed with Real Madrid in 2002. According to "As", everything was going wrong in the negotiations between the Spanish club and Inter Milan, but the Phenomenon was the most interested and stood his ground, managing to seal the deal.
For "As," the situations are similar. The difference is that this time, "Milan wouldn't give up on the player so easily." The Spanish newspaper assures that the directors are "cold-hearted and aware that Ronaldo could be useful for the rest of the season."
In Italy, the newspaper "La Gazetta dello Sport" also highlights that Milan is promising to make things difficult for Flamengo. "The board has no intention of releasing him and wants to bring him back for the second half of the season. So, in June, when his contract ends, the parties will consider a new renewal."
Another important Italian newspaper, "Corriere dello Sport" reveals in its edition the confidence that coach Carlo Ancelotti has when it comes to the Phenomenon's permanence.
"He went for a light run and did some physical exercises. I'm pleased with his first training session this year, even though he's still worried about the injury. However, I can say he wants to stay at Milan," he told the newspaper.

Flamengo faces competition from Santos and has already submitted an offer for Diego Tardelli. However, Santos doesn't intend to pay US$1 million for the striker.

Flamengo wants Ronaldo from Milan. This isn't news to anyone. However, for the marriage to have a happy ending for Flamengo, the player himself just needs to make the necessary changes.
"I've already said everything I had to say about him (Ronaldo). I'll end up taking a recorder with me to repeat everything I said. The most important thing about this matter is that it all depends on Ronaldo," said Flamengo's vice president of football, Kléber Leite.
Paulo Sérgio, from Flamengo, will play in the Copa SP
Striker will not participate in Fla's preseason

LANCEPRESS!
Flamengo's men's basketball team has resumed its activities after nearly two weeks off. The team's focus at the start of the year will be on the quest for the unprecedented National Championship trophy, which kicks off this weekend.
Coach Paulo Chupeta is optimistic about Flamengo's debut in the competition, which will take place on Sunday against UNIVATES/BIRA in Lajeado, Rio Grande do Sul. He assures that his team is ready to fight for the Brazilian title.
"I see good prospects for Flamengo. The team was formed to pursue a title it doesn't yet have, which is the National Championship. This team was assembled to compete in this championship," said Chupeta, who led the Gávea team to its State Championship victory in December of last year.
Experienced winger Marcelinho, however, prefers to be cautious when naming the main title contenders. He recognizes Flamengo's strength, but points out that there are other teams capable of lifting the trophy.
