Coach Ney Franco lamented Flamengo's draw with Sporting on Sunday, even though the game was played at the opponent's home ground. According to the coach, the Rio de Janeiro team came close to victory and the match was very well played.
"I'm a little frustrated, we were ahead twice and Sport showed they had the qualities to get the result. It was a high-level match," he says.
Despite regretting not coming away with the victory, Ney acknowledged that Flamengo ran the risk of losing the match.
"We controlled the game until the 30th minute of the second half. But they managed to equalize and then came out on top. Sport could have even turned the game around," he admits.
Ney Franco's only complaint was about the foul that led to Sport's equalizer. In Ney Franco's view, Marlon didn't bring down Washington.
"We conceded a goal from a foul that didn't happen. Fumagalli showed their quality and equalized," he laments.

In the clash between the two teams that claim to be the 1987 Brazilian champions, the match between the current state champions—from Rio and Pernambuco—ended in a draw. In a lively game with good chances for both teams, Sport and Flamengo drew 2-2 at Ilha do Retiro.
Sport started the match pressing hard. But Flamengo remained calm and, with their first attack, opened the scoring. Leonardo made a good run down the left, got past Durval, and was brought down by Osmar, resulting in a penalty. Renato took the shot and scored the first goal after just 15 minutes.
Pernambuco's pressure continued, but the Flamengo defense, with three defenders, withstood Sport's attacking momentum for as long as possible. Goalkeeper Bruno even saved a Washington header that was on target, while Flamengo was still winning the match. After so much pressure, Sport equalized in the first half. Washington headed in a corner kick while Ronaldo Angelim watched the striker's run and saw the ball go in, leaving Bruno with no chance: 1-1.
Carlinhos Bala fired a shot from outside the box, hitting Bruno's crossbar, who was too far ahead in the play. But the first half ended in a draw.
In the second half, Sport maintained its dominance, while Flamengo attempted to break the deadlock with counterattacks. In the 16th minute, Renato took a corner kick, which Osmar flicked on, and the ball went in. An Olympic goal? An own goal? What does it matter? What matters is that it was a goal.
But the match still held intense emotions for the Pernambuco red-and-blacks. In the 31st minute, Fumagalli took a skillful free kick, and Bruno just watched. It would have been better not to have gone for the ball; it was such a perfect shot that it would have been impossible to catch: 2-2.
Sport would have come from behind if it weren't for Bruno's strong performance. In addition to his saves in the first half, the goalkeeper also saved a point-blank shot from Vitor Júnior shortly after the equalizer.
The game became more tense, and the score remained unchanged until the end. A fair result for both teams, who fought for the win most of the time.
With the result, Flamengo reached five points, while Sport has four. In the next round, Flamengo will face Figueirense in Florianópolis, while Sport will face Fluminense in Rio.
Fanatic leaves Maceió to watch Flamengo in Recife\ Fan worked two shifts to be able to travel and see Flamengo\ LANCEPRESS!\
In the same week that a letter from a passionate Flamengo fan was published—offering R$100 to help the club pay its employees' salaries—another Flamengo fan showed what he's capable of doing for his beloved club. Leonardo Santos, 26, lives in Maceió and traveled to Recife just to watch Flamengo.
An office boy at a law firm, Leonardo worked double shifts to make up for his time off for travel. The fan said he would sleep at a friend's house and wouldn't return to Maceió until Monday. Leonardo came thinking Flamengo would win easily and ended up not happy with the 2-2 draw.
"It was my first time seeing Mengão play. But I'm disappointed. I thought we'd win 5-0," he said.
Like every fan, Leonardo wants to see his team emerge victorious, but since he couldn't, he at least pointed out those responsible for the poor result.
"Léo Moura thinks he's too much and didn't play well. Renato Augusto didn't play well either. He held onto the ball too much and always had one extra dribble," complained Leonardo, who saved two players: Renato, who scored both of the team's goals, and full-back Juan.
– He performed well, I liked him – said Leonardo, who may not have seen his team win, but who will remember when he saw his favorite team for the first time.
Sport complains about penalty awarded to Fla\ For Osmar and Fumagalli, the referee made a mistake against the Pernambuco team\ LANCEPRESS!\
The 2-2 draw between Sport and Flamengo this Sunday at Ilha do Retiro wasn't well received by the Pernambuco team's players. Their main complaint was related to the penalty awarded by referee Evandro Rogério Roman, which resulted in Flamengo's first goal, scored by Renato.
For right-back Osmar, who brought down striker Leonardo in the play, the opponent was already unbalanced.
"It definitely wasn't a penalty. Even though I didn't touch the ball, he (Leonardo) was already falling, he was off balance," he said, referring to the foul Leonardo had suffered from Durval shortly before.
Supporter Fumagalli, who was sent off for complaining, believes that Sport was harmed by the refereeing.
"He hurt our team. He gave a penalty that wasn't a penalty, he didn't give us a foul, and now he gives this to Renato," he commented, referring to the incident that resulted in his expulsion.

Renato finally scored a goal in the Brazilian Championship. After three games with seven different players scoring, the midfielder scored his first two goals of the competition in the 2-2 draw with Sport this Sunday at Ilha do Retiro, and is already the team's top scorer. But the two goals scored against Sport already have someone to dedicate: his newborn daughter, Rebeka. Renato stated midweek that he hoped to finally achieve this enchantment so he could finally honor his daughter.
– It took a while, but two came out for her soon after, – he said.
The supporter also celebrated the draw, despite Flamengo having been ahead. For Renato, Sport's players are accustomed to the pitch, and earning a point away from home can be considered a positive result.
"Playing here is never easy. We managed to turn the game around, but in the end, we still conceded a draw. It ended up being a great result. Now we're looking for a win in the next game, against Figueirense," he said.
Renato was pleased with the team's performance, especially in the second half, when Flamengo started to attack more.
"The game was good. The team performed well, especially after the change in positioning in the second half. The team came out ahead," he said.
There were two goals from set pieces. The first was a penalty, and the second goal for the Red-and-Blacks was a feat. Sport's right-back, Osmar, put the ball into his own net, but referee Evandro Rogério Roman signaled the goal for the Red-and-Black supporter, who took the corner kick.
With these two goals, Renato solidified his position as Flamengo's top scorer this season, with 13 goals. Souza is second in the scoring charts with nine. In recent years, the midfielder has been the team's leading scorer.

Referee Evandro Rogério Roman confirmed that the scorer of Flamengo's second goal was supporter Renato. In the play, the supporter took a corner kick, which deflected off Osmar and took goalkeeper Cléber out of the play. During the match, there was some debate as to whether Roman would award the goal to Renato or an own goal.
Having scored the game's first goal, a penalty kick, Renato took over as Flamengo's top scorer in the Brasileirão with two goals. The midfielder has now scored 46 goals for Flamengo in 128 appearances.
