Despite knowing that he was practically isolated in Gávea regarding the idea of renewing his contract, Kleber gave a speech praising the player.
- There was no agreement regarding the new contract and Roger is not part of our plans for 2008. He was an important player, especially in relation to his teammates, guiding the players with his leadership - said Kleber Leite.
On the field, sweating it out, Roger wasn't particularly noticeable and quickly gained a reputation as a "slipper" due to the long time he was confined to the medical department due to an injury that no tests detected. In his prime for Flamengo, he scored a crucial goal in their run to the Copa Libertadores, securing a 2-1 comeback victory over Corinthians in the 34th round of the Brazilian Championship.
Last week, Kleber Leite made a move that was seen as a guarantee of a contract renewal. In a meeting with Andrés Sanches, president of Corinthians, he arranged to pay in installments the equivalent of US$500 that Flamengo needed to pay to buy the São Paulo club's share of his rights.
To make the signing possible, Flamengo was reportedly willing to sell Gérson Magrão to Corinthians. Roger himself confirmed a three-year contract extension. But not even Joel Santana, who had praised him so highly, was certain the contract renewal would be a success. Now, without having to invest the $500 in Roger, Flamengo can use the money to try to keep midfielder Cristian, whose departure to Russian football is practically set. Flamengo has priority to transfer him from Atlético-PR to Gávea, but in Curitiba, Paraná officials are already treating the player's departure as a fait accompli.
Cristian, who is spending a few days of his vacation in Fortaleza, accompanied by teammate Ronaldo Angelim, has clearly expressed his farewell tone. Part of the proceeds from the publication will go to Laura de Carvalho, Jayme's widow, who today, at 87 years old, suffers from Alzheimer's disease.

Quite different from last week's qualifying match, when Flamengo and Macaé played a tight duel, yesterday the Flamengo easily defeated the Macaé team and took an important step towards the final of the State Basketball Championship. The two players insist they aren't discussing a potential clash between the clubs in next year's South American competition. They're using their free time to discuss other matters.

"Pedro Oldoni is the best. He's a top scorer there too," he adds.

The player, through his press office, reports that he hasn't and doesn't intend to break his contract with the UAE club. He's happy abroad, even though his campaign with coach Vágner Mancini's former team hasn't been the best.
"There's nothing to that, and I can say it's just speculation. I hope to fulfill my contract at Al-Nasr normally, as I'm fully adapted to the country. The quality of life I have here is amazing, and I've never had this experience in my career, as the games are well spaced out, and I can enjoy my wife and daughters. Without a doubt, I want to return to Brazilian football one day, but for that to happen, any interested club will have to negotiate directly with Al-Nasr," he states.
Inter admitted their admiration for the player, but stressed that it was an extremely complicated deal. Abel Braga is very fond of the midfielder, who also played for Corinthians.
