With a 100% record and already qualified for the Guanabara Cup semifinals, Flamengo will use the match against Volta Redonda today at 19:30 p.m. at Maracanã to refresh some players before the team's Copa Libertadores debut on February 13 against Coronel Bolognesi in Tacna, Peru. Flamengo leads Group A with 15 points from five games.
If Flamengo wins today, it will reach its tenth consecutive victory at Maracanã. The streak began on October 18, 2007, with a 2-1 victory over Vasco.
Defender Rodrigo, midfielder Kléberson, and full-back Luizinho have already been confirmed by coach Joel Santana. They replace Fábio Luciano (suspended), Toró (suspended), and Léo Moura (Brazilian national team), respectively.

Joel Santana praises Kléberson
Defender Rodrigo admits he is eager to play.
"I arrived overweight and worked hard to get back into shape. Now I feel ready to play. I need to show that I'm capable of being a starter," said Rodrigo, who had been gradually introduced.
Five-time world champion in 2002, Kléberson sees Flamengo as a career restart, after a discreet stint at Manchester United and the problems he had at Besiktas, in Türkiye:
- I need to regain my prestige and there's nothing better than being at Flamengo for that.
Joel is delighted with the five-time champion's attitude.
"Kléberson is noble. He's a national team player who, in the last match, stayed on the sidelines to come on. But I changed my mind because of a game situation, and he didn't even flinch," he says.
Striker Diego Tardelli will finally make his Flamengo debut. The club wanted a document from the Rio de Janeiro Federation authorizing the player's selection, but yesterday the Legal Department assured the coaching staff that the striker is cleared.
Souza, who, like Ronaldo Angelim, will likely receive a third yellow card to avoid the risk of missing the team in the semifinals, hopes that Tardelli will play.
"He's fast and has quality. I'm sure he'll help us a lot," Souza said, making it clear that there are no longer any problems between the two.

Dunga forgets the Olympics in the victory over Ireland (1-0), but gains two full-backs

Between testing the Olympic team and making history as the first Brazilian coach to win in Dublin, Dunga chose the latter. And he got what he wanted. A vastly superior Brazil defeated Ireland 1-0 yesterday in their first appearance of 2008. Previously, the team had played in Ireland twice: losing in 1987 (1-0) and drawing in 2004 (0-0).
While the match didn't help to start building the team that will attempt an unprecedented Olympic gold medal, it did give the Brazilian coach two new options for the team that is competing in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
Leonardo Moura and Richarlysson, both debutants, played well and should get another chance.
Before the game, there was a minute's silence in honor of the eight Manchester United players who died in a plane crash exactly 50 years ago. The friendly atmosphere continued there. Once the ball was in play, the Irish team played as if it were a World Cup match: tough marking, sliding tackles, and running.
Olympics only enter at the end
Those expecting a disinterested Brazilian team were surprised by the action. After initial pressure from Ireland, Brazil took control of the game.

Like a fairy tale, the story of defender Rodrigo's signing by Flamengo was painful, but it ended happily. Today, when he steps into the Maracanã for the first time as a starter, at 19:30 PM, to face Volta Redonda, a movie will play in his head. Kléber Leite opens the doors for Romário
Vice President of Football denies talking to Baixinho, but says he would organize a farewell game

Flamengo's vice president of football, Kléber Leite, denied Wednesday night that he had spoken to Romário after the number 11's departure from Vasco. The shorty was reportedly interested in playing a farewell match for Flamengo.
Kléber Leite confirmed that the last conversation with Romário took place two months ago. But he made it clear that if the short man so desired, he would have no problem ending his career at Flamengo.
"Flamengo's doors are open to Romário. We welcome all the great Flamengo fans with open arms," said the director.
