LIMA, Peru. Striker Ronaldo's plans for his return to the pitch could bring great news for Flamengo fans and have already put the board on high alert. In an interview published yesterday by the Italian newspaper "La Gazzetta dello Sport," the "Phenomenon" spoke optimistically about his recovery and announced that he intends to play one season for Flamengo before being ready to return to Milan.

With a stellar performance, Flamengo defeated Boca Juniors 83-58 (46-34) yesterday at the Tijuca gymnasium, tying the best-of-three semifinal series of the South American League at 1-1. Lacking concentration and nervous, Flamengo started poorly, allowing Boca Juniors to take full control and take an 8-0 lead. I'm beginning this column without knowing whether it's actually a newspaper column or a blind flight into the dark. I'm writing to the sound of the argument, a noisy one, that has taken place over in Peru, where the local news outlet decided to stir up a fire that the Flamengo delegation members tried to put out after they themselves had lit the first match. With good reason, I might add. Playing close to the sky is beautiful. The devil is the lack of oxygen.
It is likely that when opening this Wednesday's newspaper the reader (who wakes up early) still doesn't know what happened there in the thin air of Cuzco, but I have it in my mind at this very moment that nothing good happened.
Since I'm a man who suffers from bronchitis, I don't even like to talk about altitude. If I were to go sightseeing in Cuzco—mind you, I wouldn't even dare imagine playing there—I'd have a small oxygen tank in my backpack just in case.
