After winning his sixth championship title, Petkovic opened Carnival. The supporter visited Portela's warehouse in Cidade do Samba for the first time and was welcomed in a way he couldn't have imagined: with a career culmination that will be documented in the documentary "Gringo," a Serbian-Brazilian co-production about his life.
Dressed in blue jeans and a Portela shirt, Petkovic arrived in the same tone as his life now: all blue. He felt at ease listening to the school's theme for this year—"Breaking Down Borders, Conquering Freedom, A River of Peace in a State of Grace," which talks about communication.
"There's no racism here in Brazil, and people understand each other. Just look at Flamengo, which won the Brazilian title with a goal from Rogério Angelim from the Northeast. Patrícia confirms Marcos Braz as vice-president of football
After listening to the funk song "É o Pet", the player was moved when he received an eagle, Portela's symbol, as a gift.

To think that Rio residents are always like this, crazy about soccer, is an exaggeration. Fans love good soccer, they love winning, competing for titles, being champions. The joy of Flamengo's title, the salvation of Botafogo and Fluminense, and Vasco's return provided good sources of inspiration.
The very first of these was precisely the suffering that all the clubs (and their fans) went through, during the greater part of 2009, which is now coming to an end.
There wasn't a single Rio club that didn't suffer, and suffer a lot, during the season. Even Flamengo, the Brazilian champion, suffered a lot, until almost halfway through the second half. That's no small feat.
And, if Flamengo suffered until reaching the top of Brazilian football, imagine the others who, in the First Division, spent most of their time fighting to avoid relegation, such as Fluminense and Botafogo.
And imagine Vasco, in its undesirable stage in the Second Division. Until qualification became palpable, the drama lived day to day with Vasco fans.
For better or worse, all of this served to amplify the final explosion of joy. Vasco returned to the Primeira Liga; Botafogo and Fluminense remained; and Flamengo secured the title and the Libertadores. Happiness settled in Rio. And, even before all this was complete, the four fan bases—that is, the entire Rio fan base—had already filled the stadiums to cheer their team on to triumph. Even the beloved Ameriquinha, back in the Primeira Divisão of this same Rio de Janeiro.
That is to say: the whole film could have been a drama (of better or worse quality), but the ending - the ending was as happy as possible, contradicting (how bold!) the verse by Vinicius de Morais - "sadness has no end" - to the music of his partner Tom Jobim.
With the sadness over, Rio's only thought, so far, is about soccer. From the fancy restaurant to the hottest dive bar; in gyms, whether trendy or not; on the streets and on walks; in the workplace; on public transport; among men, women, and children, the talk is Flamengo, Fluminense, Botafogo, Vasco... not to mention América.
Rio's football has revived..., and it even seems that the city, even amidst its notorious ills, seems to have been reborn as well.

Everywhere I go, they're already talking—yes, yes—about the upcoming Rio Championship. Which hasn't been a big deal lately, but, by all accounts, it's going to be a big deal now. The argument makes sense: it's been a long, long time since Rio's big fan bases have been so excited, so mobilized, so united, so happy, now that the poet's sweet sadness has ended.
Let's enjoy this New Year's Eve like we haven't seen in years. Fla-Flu, Botafogo, and Vasco are in a festive mood. Let's celebrate the fans' Christmas, let's sing the New Year's Eve of Rio's football.

The very first of these was precisely the suffering that all the clubs (and their fans) went through, during the greater part of 2009, which is now coming to an end.
There wasn't a single Rio club that didn't suffer, and suffer a lot, during the season. Even Flamengo, the Brazilian champion, suffered a lot, until almost halfway through the second half. That's no small feat.
And, if Flamengo suffered until reaching the top of Brazilian football, imagine the others who, in the First Division, spent most of their time fighting to avoid relegation, such as Fluminense and Botafogo.
And imagine Vasco, in its undesirable stage in the Second Division. Until qualification became palpable, the drama lived day to day with Vasco fans.
For better or worse, all of this served to amplify the final explosion of joy. Vasco returned to the Primeira Liga; Botafogo and Fluminense remained; and Flamengo secured the title and the Libertadores. Happiness settled in Rio. And, even before all this was complete, the four fan bases—that is, the entire Rio fan base—had already filled the stadiums to cheer their team on to triumph. Even the beloved Ameriquinha, back in the Primeira Divisão of this same Rio de Janeiro.
That is to say: the whole film could have been a drama (of better or worse quality), but the ending - the ending was as happy as possible, contradicting (how bold!) the verse by Vinicius de Morais - "sadness has no end" - to the music of his partner Tom Jobim.

Striker Adriano is already at his home in Barra da Tijuca, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), and will head to Italy in the next few days, where he has business, to decide his future.
The player, who celebrated Flamengo's sixth Brazilian championship title and the competition's top scorer (19 goals, alongside Diego Tardelli) in Vila Cruzeiro, in the North Zone of Rio, where he grew up, is heading back to Europe.
Adriano has several offers to leave Rubro-negro, the main ones being from Inter Milan, Milan and Roma, all from Italy; West Ham, from England; and a German club, possibly Bayern Munich.
The first two clubs are the ones that hold the greatest appeal for the player: at Inter, he sees his president, Massimo Moratti, as a father figure—he released him without any major problems at the start of the season. At Milan, president Silvio Berlusconi is eager to bring him in.
Adriano only spoke briefly with his agent, Gilmar Rinaldi. Westeros's desire doesn't spark his interest, as it's a club without much international recognition.
The striker severed his contract with Inter on April 24 of this year and signed with Flamengo in May. His contract runs until June 2010, but a clause requires the club to release him if there is interest from Europe.

Flamengo midfielder Petkovic was at the Portela warehouse today to participate in some scenes for the documentary about his life, which is being produced by his brother, Boban Petkovic. Excited, Petkovic kissed the school flag and posed for photos with the school's master of ceremonies and flag bearer.
According to the Serbian, the identification with Portela is linked to the eagle, which also appears on his country's flag. Pet even left a Flamengo jersey in the shed to bring the school good luck.
- My affection for Portela has become almost as great a passion as the one I have for Flamengo - said Petkovic.
The midfielder said he heard many humiliating things when he arrived at the club, but that it's impossible to feel humiliated wearing a Flamengo jersey. Pet also said that he hasn't discussed his stay at Gávea.
"I've heard that they discussed the contract. I won't be able to participate in the negotiations because I'll be traveling," he said.

Flamengo's new president, Patrícia Amorim, agreed this Thursday to keep the club's vice-president of football, Marcos Braz, until 2010. Braz replaced Kléber Leite in July of this year.
Marcos Braz was the football director of the red-black club from 2006 until the beginning of 2008, winning the Copa do Brasil (2006) and the Campeonato Carioca (2007) during this period.

While Flamengo fans are scared about the possibility of losing Adriano abroad, they can breathe a sigh of relief, as Petkovic is expected to remain at the club for at least the first half of next year, when his contract with the Rubro-Negro ends.
According to the star's agent, Josias Cardoso, several offers have already been made, but none of them are particularly impressive. At 37, a fan favorite and Brazilian champion with Flamengo, Petkovic is expected to remain at Gávea until the end of his career, which shouldn't be far off.
Hired by Flamengo mid-season in a political maneuver led by Delair Dumbrosck, who made a financial agreement to pay off an old debt with the player, Pet will not be swayed by the change in the red-black leadership after last Monday's election.
"The fact that Delair will likely leave the board doesn't affect Pet's intention to stay at Flamengo. He's contracted to the club until mid-2010. I've already received two official offers from other clubs, but he made it very clear that he rediscovered the joy of playing football upon returning to Flamengo," said businessman Josias Cardoso.
Regarding the fact that Pet's contract ends before the end of the Copa Libertadores, Josias doesn't seem too worried:
"There's nothing stopping the contract from being renewed. We'll discuss this with the new president."

After scoring a 2-0 victory over the Netherlands in the 1994 World Cup quarterfinals, Bebeto celebrated with a gesture that became a symbol of that victory: he pretended to cradle a baby, his son, who had been born two days earlier. The striker never imagined, however, that 15 years later, the man he was honoring would follow in his footsteps in soccer, and even playing for the Brazilian national team.
"I never thought I'd have a son who would play soccer. But when I celebrated that game, it felt like I baptized him. I don't know, it's God's doing," Bebeto told LANCENET!, referring to his son Mattheus, recently called up to play in a tournament in Mexico with the U-16 national team.
At 15, the boy shows on the field that he inherited his father's DNA—although he uses it differently. Unlike Bebeto, a light and quick striker, Mattheus is a technical and intelligent left midfielder. His main role is to set up goals for his teammates.
"He's a very talented player. But I'm concerned about comparisons to his father. They're completely different players. Bebeto was a striker. Mattheus has nothing in common, even physically," emphasized Lucho Nizzo, coach of the U-16 and U-17 national teams.
Bebeto has always supported his son, but he claims he never used his prestige to help him. On the contrary: to reach Flamengo's youth ranks, where he's been since he was 12, Mattheus had to face a selection process with over 200 other players.
"When he told me he wanted to be a player, to wear the Flamengo jersey, I said that was fine, but that he would have to go like all the other kids. That he would have to go through trials, like everyone else," Bebeto recalled.
