The celebration at the City Council, where Flamengo coach Andrade received the Pedro Ernesto medal for services to the city from Councilwoman Clarisse Garotinho (PR), was a joyful and harmonious affair. The atmosphere only changed when the coach left the chamber and revealed some resentment over the club's initial offer to renew his contract. Later, a conversation with president-elect Patrícia Amorim seemed to have smoothed things over. But that was just the impression. That evening, a meeting at a restaurant in Rio's South Zone for another round of negotiations revealed that an agreement seems distant.
\
After the last meeting of the day, Flamengo's vice president of football, Marcos Braz, and director Eduardo Manhães left the restaurant without speaking. Both of them and Andrade had tense expressions.
\
\ - We presented the proposal and he will respond tomorrow - Braz simply said.\
\
At the meeting, Flamengo presented the number it considered the highest it could reach. Andrade was not satisfied with the offer.
\
"Flamengo needs to stop treating me like a club employee. The offer I received is far from what I want. The raise they offered me doesn't reflect what I want. It's as if they want me to leave the club. Marcos Braz even said I was free, and so was the club. I didn't like it. I made an offer to be negotiated, but within a realistic context. Today I've increased my value," the coach vented, still in the morning.
\
\ If it depends on the support he found in the Chamber, where the president of Flamengo, Márcio Braga, the elected president and councilor (PSDB) Patrícia Amorim, and the former players Nunes, Adílio, Gilmar Popoca and Júlio César "Uri Geller", in addition to several fans, were present, Andrade has the necessary support to renew.
\
\ In her speech, Patrícia Amorim recalled that she is a person who is fond of dialogue,\ and has a lot of patience.
\
"I don't know if I'll be able to pay you what you deserve. But you deserve it. Let's talk and reach an agreement," said Patrícia Amorim.
\
\ After the ceremony and after Andrade's outburst, Patrícia called the coach\ for a meeting in her office with Márcio Braga. The coach left more\ excited.
\
"I enjoyed my conversation with Patrícia. She was respectful and understood my position. It was a conversation between two former athletes of the club who know what it means to honor the club's jersey. She told me she will call a meeting in Gávea with Marcos Braz, Hélio Paulo Ferraz (vice president-elect), and José Carlos Dias (vice president of Olympic sports)," Andrade said.
\
Marcos Braz did not participate in the tribute at the City Council. However, in the evening, he called Andrade for the last meeting of the day, when negotiations did not progress.

\ Club moves to try to keep Zé Roberto
\
\
\
In an attempt to keep striker Zé Roberto, Braz met with the player's agent, Rodrigo Fonseca, trying to find a way to persuade Schalke 04, the owner of the player's economic rights, to negotiate him with Flamengo. The German club is asking R$5 million for Zé Roberto.
\
\ As it does not have this money, Flamengo tries to buy a percentage of the\ economic rights and keep the player on loan.
\
"We're starting to move. We had our first conversation today and we're going to try to put together an operation so that Zé can stay at the club," said Marcos Braz.
\
\ Zé Roberto is on vacation in Bahia and Schalke 04 representative Christian\ Rapp is expected to come to Brazil on the 21st.

Flamengo is considering buying part of Zé Roberto's rights
\ \Rio de Janeiro: Flamengo's football department is exploring a way to retain midfielder Zé Roberto for next season. Due to his performances in the Brazilian Championship, Schalke 04 has received several offers for the player. His contract with the red-and-black team ends this year.
\
The major impasse is that the German club, which holds the player's economic rights, will only agree to a deal if Flamengo buys him. To sell him to the Rio de Janeiro club, Schalke 04 is asking for around R$5 million. Flamengo's management wants to buy part of Zé Roberto's rights to resolve this situation.
\
The attacking midfielder's contract value will only be discussed after the issue is resolved. Clubs from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, as well as Tigres from Mexico, are interested in signing the player. Cruzeiro is another club that has shown interest. (BB)

Andrade refuses R$150 and leaves
\ \The six-time Brazilian champion coach is expected to say goodbye to Flamengo today. Joel Santana, who is unemployed, is the leading candidate to take his place. Leão is an outsider.
\ \BY\ JANIR JUNIOR
\ \Rio - The impasse over Andrade's permanence in Gávea left the atmosphere tense in Flamengo. Last night, the coach met with vice-president of football Marcos Braz at a restaurant in Rio's South Zone, but there was no agreement. Rubro-Negro wanted to pay up to R$150, but Andrade did not accept the offer and is leaving the club. The coach will speak today. Behind the scenes, Joel Santana and Leão are expected to command the Champion Brazilian in 2010.
\
\ A negociação The salary dispute with the coach marked the first internal crisis in the administration of the new president, Patricia Amorim. Andrade and Marcos Braz were no longer speaking the same language: Leão's name was circulated behind the scenes, the amount requested by Andrade was criticized by the director, and Patricia ended up taking the reins of the negotiations.
\
\Today, there will be another chapter and the situation can only be reversed if the president\ agrees to increase the proposal. Initially, the coach asked for R$250.
\
Yesterday morning, Andrade once again expressed his dissatisfaction. "It wasn't a good conversation for me or for him (Marcos Braz). I was very upset. I don't have any other proposals, but I'm increasingly far from Flamengo," he stated.
\
\ Soon after, he had a quick conversation with Patricia Amorim, softened his speech,\ but maintained the tone of dissatisfaction.
\
"I'm at the beginning of my career and I'm down to earth. I just want them to be fair with me. They're saying I asked for R$280. That's a lie. In fact, they made me an offer not to stay. The problem is they think I'll accept anything. It's like they want me away from Flamengo," she vented. Patricia tried to defuse the crisis. However, another meeting that night between Marcos Braz and Andrade made the atmosphere even more tense.

Andrade complains about the lack of definition
\ \Rio - Andrade's situation is uncertain and leaves the coach upset, as he asked for a higher amount than the R$110 offered by the board. "I presented my proposal and I'm waiting for a response. Marcos Braz must have more important things to do than think about my contract. I was with him all day and he didn't say anything to me," the coach said.
\
The coach also said that the indecision is hampering the team's planning for next season. "The longer it takes to plan, the more complicated it becomes. Other clubs are assembling their squads and we are falling behind. I even suggested a player for the board, but I already know that São Paulo has already entered the fight", revealed Andrade.
\
\ The vice of football fans Marcos Braz commented on the matter. "They left it up to me to resolve. The salary cap will be common sense. Andrade's valuation is different from the Flamengo can afford it. He's a coach who just entered the market, but I believe he'll have a happy ending," said the manager.

Parties do not reach an agreement and Andrade is far from Fla

Rio de Janeiro - RJ)
The continuity of the five-time champion Andrade at Gávea ended up being put at risk on Tuesday night. After a meeting between Flamengo's vice-president of football, Marcos Braz, and the coach, the parties did not reach an agreement and, therefore, the coach could leave the red-black club at the end of this year.
\ \According to a information da Tupi RadioAndrade will hold a press conference this Wednesday to reveal his true situation at Flamengo. The 2009 champion, the former midfielder, is expected to accept an offer from the Middle East and leave the Rio de Janeiro club. The coach is disappointed by the lack of appreciation for his day.
\ \"The proposal they made to me yesterday [Monday] is still far from what I want. Flamengo has to stop treating me like this. There was a lack of recognition in the conversation I had with Marcos Braz. Today (Tuesday), I am further away from staying here", said the Flamengo commander, after win the Pedro Ernesto Medal and be honored by the Rio de Janeiro City Council.
\ \The national champion sought to explain his situation, giving the figures of the discord between him and the institution. "What they want to give me is not befitting a Flamengo coach. The board wants to give me a 120% raise (Andrade wants a 240% raise), but that's not much for someone who earns little," added an annoyed Andrade.
\ \Among the big clubs in Rio de Janeiro, Flamengo is the only one that has not yet chosen a coach for 2010. While Andrade and the red-black board have not reached a consensus, Fluminense confirmed this Tuesday the continuity of Cuca, Vasco presented Vagner Mancini this afternoon and Botafogo previously confirmed Estevam Soares.

Proposal for Airton arrived this Tuesday, says Marcos Braz
\ \

Rio de Janeiro - RJ)
Speculated as future Benfica reinforcement by the Portuguese press, midfielder Airton received an official offer for his federation rights only this Tuesday. At least, that's the version of the vice-president of football fans of Flamengo, Marcos Braz. The director confirmed the offer of 3 million euros, approximately R$7,8 million.
\ \"Benfica's official offer for Aírton arrived today (Tuesday). We're going to sit down and analyze it to see if he stays or not," said Flamengo's vice-president of football.
\ \Airton is unlikely to stay with Flamengo. The midfielder's rights are split three ways: 50% goes to Nova Iguaçu, the club he was discovered at, 35% goes to Traffic, a sports investment fund, and the remaining 15% goes to Flamengo.
\ \The contract of player with the Rio de Janeiro club is valid until December 31, 2013. In the agreement between Airton and Flamengo, there is a clause that obliges the club to release him in the case of any proposal above 2,5 million euros.

Salary cap prevents Flamengo's "craziness" to keep Andrade
\ \
\
Gazeta Press - Rio de Janeiro (RJ)
Following criticism from coach Andrade regarding the delay in renewing his contract with the club, president-elect Patrícia Amorim said on Tuesday that she hopes to resolve the situation, but that she won't do anything crazy. She said that Rubro-Negro will work with a budget and a salary cap and that will not change the values so as not to harm finances.
\ \"We are trying to balance our finances. As for Andrade, it's not a question of how much we want to pay, but how much we can pay. Flamengo has a budget, a ceiling, and we have to respect it. We'll talk and see what we can do," said the future president.
\ \Off the field, Patrícia confirmed the name of the new director executive: José Carlos Brunoro, who worked at Palmeiras during the partnership with Parmalat. The director will work in all of Flamengo's categories.

Turning a lucky father around: Angelim's hero mission
\ \
\
Paulo Amaral,\ special envoy -\ Rio de Janeiro (RJ)
Ronaldo Angelim wrote his name in Flamengo's history by scoring, with a header, the goal that sealed the comeback and victory over Grêmio, on December 6th, at Maracanã, in a game that brought the Brazilian championship title to the red-black team from Gávea after a 17-year wait. But he wants more.
\ \\ \ \ \
The hero of the biggest fan base in the country still doesn't know if he will remain in the group that will compete in the 2010 season and will try, among other achievements, to win the Copa Libertadores for the second time, but he has already revealed a personal mission for the year: to turn his father, Antônio Leite Angelim, into the newest 'flanático' on the planet.
\ \"My father is very\ lucky, despite being Vasco fan. Whenever he goes to the stadium, I win. So, when I can, I'll bring him to the games to see me", commented the defender, whose contract with the Gávea team will end on December 31st.
\ \According to Angelim, 'seo' Antônio won't mind changing his shirt Vasco fan for the red-black team. "With everything I'm achieving here, it will be easy to convince him to become a Flamengo fan," joked the player, who lifted the 2006 Copa do Brasil, the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Carioca titles and this year's Nacional title in Gávea.
\ \Enjoying a well-deserved vacation, player doesn't even want to talk about his future for now.\ "Flamengo is the priority and that's where I want to stay in 2010, but nothing is defined. If they don't look for me, I'll try to find my space somewhere else, but I want to stay", he concluded.

World champions praise Andrade, Petkovic and Adriano
\ \
\
Bruno Ceccon, José\ Edgar de Matos and Luiz R. Fini - Sao Paulo (SP)
\ \
Representatives of the five world titles won by Brazilian Team participated in the sixth edition of the Mesa Redonda Trophy. Before the awards ceremony at the headquarters of the Cásper Líbero Foundation, the veterans praised midfielder Petkovic, center forward Adriano and coach Andrade, who were considered key figures in Flamengo's Brazilian Championship title.
\ \"What I liked most was Andrade's appointment. He kept coming and going as Flamengo's manager and no one valued him, but Andrade stayed and proved his competence. The former player there is always an advantage when it comes to becoming a coach", said Dadá Maravilha, world champion in 1970 and hero of Atlético-MG's only Brazilian title in the 1971 season.
\ \Present at the national team's two-time championship win in 1958 and 1962, Pepe lamented midfielder Petkovic's nationality. "It's a shame he's Serbian; I wish he were Brazilian. He's an extremely high-quality athlete, a great passer, has grit, and even scores goals. He was one of the stars of the championship," said the former player, a five-time Copa Brasil champion with Santos in the 1960s.
\ \Present in the historic 1970 three-time championship and known for his "atomic kick," Rivellino was pleased to see another high-level left-footer in action in the Brazilian Championship. "Adriano is a killer, strong, with presence in the box and intelligent at times. He has a wonderful left foot and was eager to play. I hope he stays in Brazil," he declared.
\ \Repatriated after a controversial stint in Italy, Adriano was the top scorer in the Brazilian Championship alongside Atlético's Diego Tardelli with 19 goals. In the 14th round, Andrade took over the team in 11th place as interim manager in place of Cuca and was eventually made permanent after two consecutive victories. Petkovic, in turn, scored eight goals, two of them Olympic goals (against Palmeiras and Atlético-MG), and also provided five assists.
\ \Having won his fourth title with the national team in 1994, Zetti approved of the Brazilian championship won by Flamengo. "The consistency of the teams was different from other years. If there had only been two teams that stood out, it wouldn't have been as exciting. This year was a very good competition, everyone benefited from it, and I think it brought a different kind of joy to the fans," analyzed the former goalkeeper, national champion with São Paulo in 1991.
\ \Of all the world champions in the awards ceremony, the only one to have participated in the 2009 Brazilian Championship was goalkeeper Marcos, who lamented the loss of the trophy. "I did everything I could and lost a few games in the tournament, but I get upset when Palmeiras doesn't win anything. In the end, I was left with the feeling that we could have achieved something more," said the athlete, a five-time champion with the national team in 2002 and present at the Verdão's national titles in 1993 and 1994.

The agreement between Andrade and Flamengo is increasingly complicated; Tuesday's meeting was in vain
\ \Andrade's contract renewal with Flamengo remains unresolved. On Tuesday night, the club's vice president of football, Marcos Braz, and the coach met to reach an agreement, but nothing came of it. The information comes from Tupi Radio.
\ \The coach is expected to hold a press conference this Wednesday to discuss his situation at Flamengo. There's a strong possibility that the coach won't continue at Gávea in 2010.
\ \Also on Tuesday, after being honored by the Rio de Janeiro City Council with the Pedro Ernesto Medal, Andrade expressed irritation at the fact that he was not valued by Flamengo.
\ \"The proposal they made to me yesterday [Monday] is still far from what I want. Flamengo has to stop treating me like this. There was a lack of recognition in the conversation I had with Marcos Braz. Today, I am further away," he said, adding.
\ \"What they want to give me is not befitting a Flamengo coach. A 120% raise (Andrade wants a 240% raise) for someone who earns little is not much," the coach added, visibly upset.
\ \If he doesn't continue as Flamengo's coach, Andrade could work in Arab football. Interestingly, the current Brazilian champions don't have a coach for 2010. The other Rio de Janeiro teams have already decided on Vagner Mancini (Vasco), Estevam Soares (Botafogo) and Cuca (Fluminense).

Airton's transfer to Benfica-POR could be completed this Wednesday

\ \
The Portuguese press has already confirmed the transfer of 19-year-old midfielder Airton from Flamengo to Benfica-POR, stating that the midfielder will sign a contract with the Portuguese club until 2015. However, in Brazil, the negotiation has not yet been finalized by those involved.
\ \"This Wednesday the three parties should sit down again to close this transaction," said Jânio Moares, president of Nova Iguaçu, a team that plays in the second division of Rio de Janeiro football.
\ \The Baixada club Fluminense, which revealed the midfielder, holds 50% of the player's economic rights and has already accepted Benfica's offer, which, according to the Portuguese press, is around three million euros, half of what was previously announced.
\ \Traffic, which has 35% of the midfielder's rights, has also agreed to the number and is only missing the approval of Flamengo, the club that the midfielder has played professionally since 2008 and which has 15%.
\ \"The official proposal sent by the Portuguese has been with Flamengo since last Friday. Let's see if we can close this on Wednesday," reiterated Jânio Moraes, showing impatience with the delay.
\ \With Airton's departure confirmed, he will be the first starter from the 2009 Brazilian champions to leave the Rio de Janeiro team. However, others could follow suit, such as attacking midfielder Zé Roberto, who is under contract with Schalke 04-ALE, and center forward Adriano, who has not yet officially confirmed his stay at Gávea and has offers from several European clubs.

Andrade was more satisfied after the conversation with Patrícia Amorim
\ \\ \
Patrícia Amorim's feminine delicacy could make all the difference and be decisive in Andrade's continued presence at Flamengo. Moments after venting and complaining about the salary offer made by vice president of football Marcos Braz, the coach spoke with the president of Flamengo and left the City Council this Tuesday less pessimistic. He was there to receive the Pedro Ernesto medal for leading the Gávea club to the Brazilian title.
\ \The commander was very irritated with Marcos Braz. According to him, there was no goodwill from the leader during Monday's meeting. Andrade reportedly asked for a R$250 salary, but received an offer of less than half that, R$120.
\ \"Patrícia is very polite. She was an athlete and knows what it's like to be a former athlete of the club. The conversation I had yesterday didn't feel good towards Marcos Braz, but today the conversation with Patrícia was very useful," said Andrade, adding.
\ \"I didn't ask for a deadline and I don't want to pressure anyone. I'm asking for an amount that's within the responsibility of taking over the Flamengo team. It's not easy to live with the pressures of everyday life," the commander added.
\ \Besides having a national title as a coach on his resume, Andrade has the backing of two inquiries from abroad, but so far nothing official. He has been approached by a club in the United Arab Emirates and another in Iran.

The morning at the City Council was reserved for a tribute to Andrade, who received the Pedro Ernesto medal from Councilwoman Clarrisa Garotinho (Partido da República-PR) for leading Flamengo to the Brazilian title. However, the coach didn't seem friendly when discussing his complicated contract renewal. Irritated, he said he was no longer with the Rubro-Negro.
\ \The Gávea club reportedly offered a 120% raise, which the manager, who currently earns around R$50, considered too little. Andrade, who has received offers from clubs abroad, reportedly asked for more than R$200 to stay, a figure that alarmed vice-president of football Marcos Braz.
A 120% raise for someone who earns little is not much," the coach added, visibly upset.
\ \Patrícia Amorim was also present at the event. In a political move, the Flamengo president and councilwoman praised the Flamengo coach and expressed confidence in reaching an agreement as quickly as possible. However, she acknowledged the difficulties in paying Andrade's desired salary.
\ \"I don't know if we'll be able to pay him what he deserves, but that's a good problem. It's a good problem because we were champions. I'm sure we'll reach an agreement," declared the red-black leader.
\ \In addition to Patrícia, who is a councilwoman, some former players and old friends of Andrade were present at the event, such as Nunes, Adílio, Julio César and Gilmar Popoca. Ronaldo Angelim: the Emperor of Cariri
\ \Defender is a campaigner, property owner and is now followed wherever he goes in Juazeiro do Norte
\ \ \ \ \ \\ \
Juazeiro do Norte is to Ronaldo Angelim what Vila Cruzeiro is to Adriano. In the city in the interior of Ceará, he is considered the Emperor. He is almost like Padre Cicero in heaven and the defender on earth. Especially after the goal against Grêmio that\ gave the Brazilian championship from 2009 to Flamengo.
\ \\ \
\ \
Ronaldo Angelim is quickly surrounded when he opens the door to his parents' house
\ \- It's hard to say who has more morals. Me here in Juazeiro or Adriano in Vila Cruzeiro. I think it's the same thing – joked Angelim.
\ \\ \
The displays of affection for the number 4 witnessed by GLOBOESPORTE.COM in recent days are proof of his importance. After all, he carries with him the victory of a typical Northeastern citizen, raised in the backlands of Ceará. Although he was born in São Paulo because of his father, Antônio,'s work, he grew up in the Cariri region, in the south of the state.
\ \\ \
He spent part of his childhood in the small town of Porteiras, but almost his entire life in Juazeiro do Norte. His family is still there, where he invariably spends his vacations. But these will be very different. Starting with the reception. More than a thousand people were at the airport waiting for his arrival in the rainy early hours of last Friday. They also formed a motorcade to his door.
\ \\ \
A few hours after arriving, Angelim was already being honored again. This time by Mayor Raimundo Santana Neto in a crowded public square, complete with a plaque and a brief account of his career.
\ \\ \
But all this affection isn't new. Even when he was one of Icasa's star players, the defender was already a fixture. So much so that he was pampered by the club's then-president, Kleber Lavor. In his first year as a professional, in 96, he received a bicycle as a gift from the director. Later, he received benefits of R$100 for every goal scored. He was also excused from training camps, as he liked to sleep at his grandmother's house.
\ \\ \
"And he only concentrated if he had beans to eat at mealtimes. It was one of the conditions. But Angelim always deserved it, as he is an example on and off the field," says Lavor.
\ \\ \
Political career?
\
As his success in football grew, so did his popularity in the city. In 2003, for example, he received the honorary title of "Citizen of Juazeiro" from the City Council. He also agreed to serve on several occasions as a campaigner for Kleber Lavor, a former councilman of Juazeiro do Norte.
\ \
\ \
Ronaldo Angelim's pamphlet with the former president of Icasa: campaign manager
\ \"He's the campaign manager every Ceará politician would love to have. I already had my political base, but I was elected with ease thanks to his support. And I'll go further: if he ran for any office in Juazeiro today, he would be elected. Whether for mayor or city councilor. Roberto Dinamite couldn't get into Congress? Márcio Braga couldn't either?" Lavor commented.
\ \\ \
Angelim, however, immediately\ ruled out this possibility.
\ \\ \
- No politics. I'm thinking about continuing in football. I like the tactical side of things and I'm always studying it – said the defender.
\ \\ \
He prefers to continue being recognized for the talent that has earned him a secure life, quite different from the one he had during his childhood. Soccer has brought in far more than the R$60 Ituano paid for his rights in 2000. Currently, Angelim has considerable assets by city standards. He has purchased around 50 properties to provide a guaranteed source of income when he retires.
\ \\ \
"These are simple houses that I rent. The price varies a lot. It goes from R$100 for the simplest to R$400 for the best," says Angelim, who dreams of giving each of his eight siblings a house.
\ \\ \
As he gradually helps his family, he doesn't forget the townspeople. Every year, he organizes games and charity events using his prestige. He then donates the collected food to charities.
\ \\ \
Change of habit
\ \\ \
\ \
The Brazilian Championship title made the previously timid harassment become blatant. If before he walked calmly through the city, everything changed. So much so that one of the first measures was to avoid walking around the city in the last few days.
\ \\ \
In front of the house he gave to his parents, a crowd gathered when they learned of his presence. If before the door was always open, as in a typical small town, now it must be closed.
\ \\ \
A supermarket delivery man felt lucky to have been able to get in. So much so that he took the opportunity to get an autograph on his bicycle basket.
\ \\ \
- I'm going to show this to everyone – he said when he won the "prize".
\ \\ \
Angelim realized he now needed to get into the car as quickly as he could to mark a striker. Any oversight could be fatal. In other words, if he wasted time, a crowd would soon form. Even that wouldn't be enough. After all, the defender's van was once followed by noisy motorcyclists. Their horns seemed to announce the Emperor's passage through the city. This fact made Angelim reflect and conclude that Adriano should have a calmer vacation than he did at Vila Cruzeiro.
\ \\ \
"I've always been harassed here. But not like this. I didn't know I was so famous. I don't think I'll be able to rest during this vacation," concluded Angelim, the Emperor of Cariri.
\ \\ \
\ \
Angelim and the miracles of Father Cicero
\ \The defender's entire family is devoted to the priest who made the city of Juazeiro do Norte famous.
\ \ \ \Juazeiro do Norte grew and became famous because of Father Cícero. Today, religious tourism drives the economy of this city in southern Ceará. But those who live there also believe in his miracles. Ronaldo Angelim's family is a good example of faith in the "saint of the backlands."
\ \\ \
\ \
\ \
Angelim visits the statue of Padre Cícero to thank him for the Brazilian Championship title
\ \\ \
Even before the defender was born, his mother was already making promises to the priest. And since childhood, Angelim grew up believing, praising and never doubting the strength of "Padim Ciço".
\
- My grandfather's name was Cicero and everyone at home is devoted to him. My mother still keeps a promise because of my brother's accident... And there was also the story about when I was at Fortaleza - says Angelim, before telling it.
\
"We came to Juazeiro by bus (it's about 514 km from the capital of Ceará) to face Icasa. I remember our team had several evangelical players, and they made fun of Father Cícero the whole trip. They said he never performed miracles, that he was worthless, that he had a big head. I was upset, but I kept quiet. All I know is that Icasa was practically relegated, and yet we still lost the game 5-1. It was the strength of the man. They messed with the wrong people. Afterwards, everyone had to fly back, afraid of the fans," said the defender.
\ \
Ronaldo Angelim gives one of the six turns of Father Cicero's staff
\ \Last Friday, GLOBOESPORTE.COM went with him to the statue of Padre Cícero, which watches over the entire city from above, just like Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. There, the player prayed and gave thanks for the miraculous goal against Grêmio, which gave Flamengo the 2009 Brazilian Championship title. To complete the ritual, all he had to do was turn Padre Cícero's staff counterclockwise. The defender scored six.
\
\ - One for each Flamengo title – he joked.
\
\ He then recalled other visits he had made to the statue due to other graces received. On one of them, he brought a Flamengo number 4 jersey, which to this day\ is part of the collection of the Padre Cícero museum, next to the monument.
\
"I always come here when I can. After qualifying for the Libertadores in the 2007 season, I came here to bring a jersey featuring Jorge Rodrigues (a friend of coach Joel Santana). I also came after winning the last three Cariocas. On my next visit, I'll bring the jersey from the sixth title. And I hope to come back here next year to bring the jersey from the fourth Carioca title or perhaps the Libertadores," said Ronaldo Angelim.

THE MIRACLE
The shirt given to pay for the promise of a place in the Libertadores, in 2007
\ \Agnaldo is Angelim's older brother. His father, Antônio, lived in São Paulo when his wife Francisca gave birth to their firstborn. When he was four months old, an accident nearly took his life before his father even met him.
\ \My niece asked me to give Agnaldo a bath in a waist-deep pool. A procession passed by, and she dropped him in the pool and ran to see. Agnaldo drowned until his paternal grandmother found him floating, purple. She brought him to me in her arms, already stiff, and said, "Antônia, your son is dead." I was in great despair, especially since he was my first child and Antônio was in São Paulo. We rushed my son to the hospital and didn't get any treatment. We rushed to the second hospital, and they took him inside. That's when I looked out the window and saw the image of Father Cícero in Horto. As I made the promise, it felt like I was talking to him face to face. A doctor came in soon after, saying there was no way, that the boy had drowned. But another young man continued trying to save him. When the doctor returned to the room, Agnaldo was moving. The doctor turned to me and said: "Ma'am, what happened here today was a miracle." Then all I could do was thank him and fulfill my promise: I climbed the stairs on my knees carrying my son in my arms – reported Dona Francisca.

Whenever they can, the family lights candles, says prayers, and attends the pilgrimages that fill the city with faithful from all over Brazil. After Ronaldo Angelim's miraculous goal, their devotion was only strengthened.
\
"With a man like that enlightening me, there's no way I wouldn't want to live here in Juazeiro do Norte. I think Padre Cícero is a red-and-black," said the defender.

Flamengo can't resist Halcones Rojos and gets complicated in the Americas League
\ \Without Marcelinho, the team falls to the Mexicans. To qualify, Fla will have to root for the Halcones to lose and beat the Espartanos this Wednesday.

Duda's Flamengo failed to secure their second victory in the League of the Americas
\ \After opening the League of the Americas with a victory over Capitanes de AreciboFlamengo lost on Tuesday night and fell to Halcones Rojos of Mexico. The 76-73 defeat in Isla Margarita, Venezuela, left the red-and-black club in a difficult position in the standings. In the last game, Capitanes de Arecibo of Puerto Rico, which had been defeated the day before by the Brazilian team, defeated the local Espartanos Margarita, 97-79. Thus, all four teams have one win and one loss, and the only spot in Group B for the Final Four of the League of the Americas will be decided this Wednesday, in the closing round of the first stage of the competition.
\ \\ \
Flamengo faces Espartanos de Margarita at 23:40 p.m., but to qualify, before winning their match, they will have to hope that Capitanes de Arecibo defeats Halcones Rojos in the preliminary round, as the first tiebreaker is the head-to-head record. If the Mexican team wins, Flamengo will enter the court already eliminated.
\
\ The Halcones' top scorer on Tuesday was Ricardo Sanchez Rosa, with 18 points,\ followed by Carlos Rivera's 13. Without Marcelinho, Flamengo was led by\ Jefferson, who scored 28 points, including eight shots from the three-point line. Duda contributed 20 points, but it wasn't enough to avoid a narrow defeat.
\
\ With an injury to his left hand, Marcelinho traveled with the team, but he will also not play on Wednesday against Espartanos.

\ \Flamengo defeats Capitanes de Arecibo and debuts with a victory in the League of the Americas
\ \The first quarter was evenly matched, with the Mexican team winning 26-23. In the second quarter, Flamengo's performance faltered. The Brazilian team scored just nine points, compared to their rivals' 15, at a point in the game when their offenses couldn't overcome their defenses. After halftime, Flamengo managed to level the playing field and entered the fourth quarter trailing by just five points.
\
Led by Jefferson's accurate shots, the Red-Black team closed the gap and even cut the lead to just one point. The Halcones, however, kept their heads and held on to the lead until the end. The Rio team still had a chance to tie the game and send the game to overtime, but in desperation, point guard Fred was unable to convert his final three-pointer.

'We did what we could. Now it's with Andrade,' says Braz after the meeting.
\ \The sixth-time champion's coach and manager leave dinner looking grim. A proposal from the United Arab Emirates 'helps' make renewal even more difficult.
\ \ \ \\ \
\ \
The day that began with a lively ceremony at the City Hall ended with an indigestible dinner in Leblon. Andrade, who won the Pedro Ernesto medal this Tuesday morning, was adamant about the new proposal that Flamengo performed at night at a restaurant in Leblon. To make matters worse, he also received a high-priced offer from a club in the United Arab Emirates.
\
After dinner with vice president of football, Marcos Braz, the coach's unfriendly expression revealed that his days at Flamengo may be nearing an end. This fact was made clear in the manager's statement.
\ \
"We did what we could, and now it's up to Andrade. We went beyond our limits. As Flamengo's director, with the responsibility I have, I need to have an option. We met for almost three hours, and I made one final proposal. We had a tough conversation during those three hours. Now the decision is with him," he stated. (see the video above).
\
\ When he was still an assistant coach, Andrade received a salary of around R$ 10 per month. He was hired and began receiving around R$ 50. With the title of Brazilian Championship, the renewal became complicated.
\
Flamengo offered a 120% raise (R$110), but Andrade reportedly asked for around R$250. After the ceremony with President Lula in Brasília last Monday, Marcos Braz and the coach did not reach an agreement. On the contrary, their relationship became strained.
\ \
\ \
This Tuesday morning, after the ceremony at the City Council, Andrade criticized him again. He only softened his tone after a meeting with Patrícia Amorim. The future president called a meeting in Gávea with Braz himself, his future vice president, Hélio Ferraz, and the current vice president of Olympic sports, José Carlos Dias.
\ \\ \
With a new offer in hand, worth around R$150, Braz went to meet Andrade in Leblon. The meeting lasted two hours and ten minutes, but the dinner didn't go down well. Unyielding, the coach said he wouldn't accept less than R$200 a month. As they left the restaurant, the unfriendly expressions on both their faces revealed the disastrous outcome.
\
\ - Tomorrow (Wednesday) I will speak to you (press). Today I don't want to talk\ anything - Andrade simply said.
\
\ Meanwhile, Marcos Braz got into the first car and headed towards Gávea for\ a new round of re
