Fla contacts lawyer and may appeal to FIFA for Maldonado; Midfielder is pessimistic

The Chilean federation has not yet contacted Flamengo to officially discuss the situation of midfielder Maldonado, who was injured in a friendly between Chile and Slovakia on Tuesday. However, the player's comments after the game give the impression that the situation is serious, which is already causing the red-and-black club to take precautions.

After receiving the news that Maldonado left the game with a left knee injury, the Rio de Janeiro team's directors immediately contacted lawyer Marcos Motta to find out if there was a chance of forcing the Chileans to cover the athlete's salary and treatment while he was out.

"This is always a delicate subject. Although FIFA says that the club that\ leases the athlete is obliged to cover insurance in case of illness or injury,\ this does not seem reasonable to me, as it does not say what type of insurance it has to be, whether it\ covers salary or medical treatment. It also doesn't seem reasonable to me that what applies to Europeans doesn't apply to South Americans," added Motta, who will meet with the club's directors on Wednesday morning to discuss the matter. "If there isn't an amicable agreement, I see room for legal action at FIFA," he concluded.

\ So far, no one from Flamengo has been contacted by the Chilean federation's directors. However, the one who gave an overview of Maldonado's situation was the midfielder himself, who in an interview with the website latercera.com did not seem very optimistic.

"It seems to be a problem with the meniscus or ligaments. I have to lift my head. But this happening after so long away from the national team makes me angry, especially because I know it will be a long recovery," he lamented.

\ At the club's Training Center in Vargem Grande, coach Andrade lamented the incident, but still held out hope of counting on the player in the Brazilian Championship.

2009 seemed like a year of redemption for Kleberson, after a few years without shining in football. Playing for Flamengo, the midfielder won the state championship, returned to prominence, and caught the attention of coach Dunga, returning to the Brazilian national team. However, it was precisely while playing for Brazil that the worst happened.

In a friendly against Estonia in August, the player suffered a dislocated right shoulder for the third time in his career and required surgery. \ Kleberson - I always try to focus on my recovery and think about my return. I have the support of my family during these difficult times and also of my Flamengo teammates. My motivation increases every day as I realize that I am better and quickly recovered.

\ UOL Esporte - Last week, you returned to participating in group training for the first time since your shoulder injury. How did you feel in this type of training? Were you worried about any tackles?
\ Kleberson - We're always more careful when we come back from an injury. It's normal to lack confidence at first, but little by little we loosen up.

\ Kleberson - I believe so. I was doing very well at Flamengo and got a chance with the national team. Unfortunately, I got injured, which put a stop to this good moment. Now it's time to look ahead and find my place again.

In the fight for the top spot, Flamengo admits leaving Rio if it takes the lead

Just two points behind leaders São Paulo, Flamengo could finish the next round as the top team in the Brazilian Championship. Because of this, the Flamengo board is already starting to make moves in case the combination of results leaves the Flamengo at the top of the table on Sunday. To avoid the potential "hype" that could grip fans with another national title approaching, the goal is to move the squad out of the city.

"If we reach the top, we will take some measures. One of them could be taking the team out of Rio de Janeiro," he told UOL\Sports Flamengo's vice president of football, Marcos Braz. "But that doesn't mean that this will actually happen, but there's a good chance," the director added.

According to Braz, the departure from Rio de Janeiro may even happen only in the final week of the Brazilian Championship, instead of the next one. However, the club's vice president of football states that decisions will only be made after the game between Flamengo and Goiás, on Sunday, at 19:30 pm.

"We're playing the last match of the round. When the game starts, we already know São Paulo's result, which will be beforehand [at 17 p.m., against Botafogo]. Then we'll wait for our result and sit down to make our assessment," said Marcos Braz.

What's certain is that training will continue outside of Gávea until the end of the national competition, something that has already happened in recent weeks, with Flamengo training only at the Ninho do Urubu training center in Vargem Grande, west of Rio de Janeiro. Fans don't have access to the training center, and the election atmosphere that animates the club doesn't reach the players. "I won't give up on that," Braz said.
