'We can reach the fourth title and we have a chance in the Libertadores'
\
\
\
Coach sees group with ambition to win three competitions in 2010
\
\
\
\
ANDRADE PLANS Flamengo and aims for new achievements in 2010: "The group is qualified"
\
\
\
Andrade is working hard. After the back-and-forth negotiations for a salary increase, the Flamengo coach says his focus is on new achievements in 2010. He's already decided he intends to work with 28 quality players, leaving room for some junior players to play. The message he's sending is quite clear:
\
\
- Our group wants more. With all due respect to our opponents in the State Championship, we can reach the fourth title and I see the team as mature and with a great chance of winning the Libertadores.
\
\
\
Marcos Penido
\
\
What will the planning be like for 2010?
\
\
ANDRADE: For now, we have a series of ideas lined up. Next week, we'll sit down and start implementing them. Initially, I plan to work with a group of 27 or 28 quality players, leaving room for young players who have come up through the youth ranks.
\
\
What was the highlight of the 2009 season?
\
\
ANDRADE: The unity, humility, and simplicity of the group. From the players to the coaching staff, including the employees, everyone understood that Flamengo is bigger than anything. It was harmony that made it work. That's how it will have to continue in 2010.
\
\
Wasn't the atmosphere a little strained by the delay in renewing the contract?
\
\
ANDRADE: Not for my part. I understand that I fought for my own interests, and Marcos Braz, representing Flamengo, for the club's. There was an agreement, and the matter is in the past. I owe a lot to Braz, who supported me in my career. The matter is over, and we must think ahead, united.
\
\
Does the team need a lot of reinforcements for 2010?
\
\
ANDRADE: We need three or four experienced reinforcements. Our squad is good, and the players are of a good standard. I just won't say the positions where I want the reinforcements.
\
\
\
What was your biggest learning this season?
\
\
ANDRADE: Understanding the players' needs. I realized that you have to give equal attention to everyone, not just those who are going to play. But my contribution was to bring everyone together and make them see that achieving something requires humility, determination, and ambition.
\
\
On the field, what was your biggest contribution?
\
\
ANDRADE: My part was small. Of course, I changed the tactics and tried to find the best way for the team to play. But without everyone's contribution, this wouldn't have been possible.
\
\
When did you feel that the team could be champion?
\
\
ANDRADE: After we beat Palmeiras at Parque Antártica and São Paulo at Maracanã. We won well, with authority. Right then, I saw that it was possible. It all sunk in, and the players felt it too. I believed in it, and so did the group. It was a united movement, always maintaining humility and a strong work pace.
\
\
What are the main difficulties that Flamengo will face in 2010?
\
\
ANDRADE: In terms of the group, it will be about motivating the team. The Brazilian Championship was a great achievement, but it's already in the past. Now, we have to aim for something more important in the future. When I was a player, I'd win a competition and want to win it again, and then another, and then another. That's what this group of intelligent players needs to understand in 2010. We can achieve more. To do so, we'll need greater ambition. Fortunately, they're intelligent players who will soon get the message.
\
\
How will you divide the planning for a team that will compete in three competitions?
\
\
ANDRADE: I'm against prioritizing one competition. If we can play with the same group in the State Championship and the Libertadores in the first half of the year, that's what we'll do. As a last resort, I'll prioritize the Libertadores.
\
\
What message would you send to the fans in terms of expectations for 2010? Is the team capable of competing in the State, Libertadores and Brazilian Championships with a real chance of winning titles?
\
\
ANDRADE: It's going to be a very good year. We have a great chance of winning the State Championship, with all due respect to our fellow team members, and I see the Libertadores with Flamengo as a great chance of reaching the final. The Brazilian Championship will be another battle. But we're in the running for all three, along with this exceptional fan base. Playing together, team and fans, the chance of reaching it is immense.

Adriano, the Emperor of Flamengo, gathered his friends at his home in Barra on Thursday for a celebration filled with barbecue, beer, and samba. The music was handled by none other than Diogo Nogueira. "I'm very happy," said Adriano, celebrating the great year he had had - he was champion and top scorer in the Brazilian Championship, in addition to returning to the national team.
\
\
\
\
Diogo, another person celebrating a good phase with a golden DVD, a song in a soap opera and a TV show, opened the samba circle with a "little prayer".
\
\
\
"My strength is the faith that I carry deep in my chest/When nothing works, it's amen, it's axé, there's no way/In the terreiro he is Oxalá, in the East he is Allah/No one knows how to explain this greater force." The prayer, which was transformed into the song "Força Maior", was a huge success.
\
\
\
\
"Where's the photo?" asked Adriano, next to Diogo, asking one of his friends for the camera. They offered the player a rattle. "What's this? I'm just learning..." Soon after, he faced the reco-reco with authority.
\
\
\
\
The pagode dance took place on the porch, and every time he entered the living room, Adriano took off his flip-flops. His friends did the same. Diogo's wife, physical education student Milena Vaça, showed off the samba that makes her a hit at Salgueiro. Aline Leal, producer, and Carla Shultz, announcer, also sambaed with a vengeance.
\
\
\
"Power of Creation," by João Nogueira, and "Renascer das cinzas," by Martinho da Vila, were other sambas in the repertoire. Before that, the party sound was what came out of the player's personal iPod, with songs by samba artists like Jorge Aragão and Arlindo Cruz.
\
\
\
\
The most relaxed moment was when people improvised verses based on the chorus "It's from Madureira São José, it's from Madureira", led by Cacau de Castro.
\
\
\
\
"Hail Vila Cruzeiro, which doesn't make a fool of itself," said composer Juninho Thybau, nephew and spitting image of Zeca Pagodinho ("I'm slow: I only drink every other day," he laughed).
\
\
\
\
Musician of 9 out of 10 samba musicians, Alceu Maia added: "Mengo was champion, he beat São Paulo and Parmeira," he sang, imitating a São Paulo native. "Adriano Imperador" also appeared in almost every rhyme.
\
\
\
\
\
The player spoke excitedly about his strong performance, which culminated in Flamengo's sixth World Cup title. "If I keep this up, I hope to be in the World Cup; the door is open." Adriano celebrated the renewal of coach Andrade's contract. "He gives us confidence; it's hard to have a coach who asks your opinion."
\
\
\
\
The red-black title, of course, was still the topic of conversation at the party, only with his "close friends", according to Adriano, the Vila Cruzeiro crowd. Diogo Nogueira, a former youth player, said that he played the preliminary match between Flamengo and Grêmio at Maracanã.
\
\
\
\
"Flamengo's Master called me to play and I said, 'You're kidding me...'" Result: the singer scored a goal with a pass from Adílio. "He threw it to the baseline and I, boom!" said Diogo, all excited, saying that he celebrated by dancing samba in front of the Red-Black Race.

Marquinhos is of interest to Flamengo for 2010
\ \Thiago Viana -\ tviana@jsports.com.br
\ \Rio de Janeiro: One of Avaí's key players this season, Marquinhos previously played for the red-and-black team in 2002. At the time, he didn't have many opportunities and was only a substitute. Besides failing to thrive for the Rio de Janeiro team, he also failed in stints with São Paulo and Atlético-MG.
\
\
However, at Avaí he shone brightly in winning the Campeonato Catarinense - where he was considered the competition's star - this year and in the good campaign under Silas' baton in the Brasileirão. Thanks to his formidable performance, Flamengo's vice-president of football, Marcos Braz, expressed interest in the player.
\
\
However, getting him out of the south of the country will be a daunting task. Not to mention that Santos also wants to count on the athlete's talent. This could be the beginning of a new saga in Brazilian football...

"Soap Opera" in Ronaldo Angelim's renewal
\ \Anna Barros
\ \\ \
\ \
Rio de Janeiro: Ronaldo Angelim may or may not renew his contract with Flamengo before the end of the year. That's what the Flamengo board and the athlete hope for. In fact, it was the defender who scored the winning goal in the Brazilian championship and is a highly respected and beloved figure at Gávea. His composure and experience have given the team consistency, a safe haven after the departure of former captain Fábio Luciano.
\
\
What could weigh on Ronaldo Angelim's renewal is his age. The 34-year-old defender joined Flamengo in 2006, where he won the Copa do Brasil against Vasco da Gama, under Ney Franco. Ronaldo Angelim was questioned at the beginning of his time with the red-and-black team, but with the arrival of Fábio Luciano, there was a perfect symbiosis, and he remained a starter.
\
\
After his teammate's departure, some tests were carried out, but the team's defense became stable again with the arrival of Álvaro midway through the Brazilian Championship. The climax was the title-winning goal scored against Grêmio in Flamengo's 2-1 comeback.

Aírton's fate remains undefined
\ \\ \ \ \
Rio de Janeiro: a complete mess. That's how the Aírton-Benfica negotiations can be defined. On one side of this "confused square" is Flamengo, which doesn't want to lose its starting midfielder. On the other, Benfica, which wants to sign him for less than expected, three million euros, and is already making plans for his arrival. Furthermore, there's also pressure from Traffic and Nova Iguaçu, who own most of Aírton's rights, to finalize the sale as soon as possible.
\ \\ \
\ \
In this true confusion of interests,\ it is obvious that consensus is far from being reached, but Marcos Braz, Flamengo's vice president of football, says he wants to convince the parties to resolve this later. It seems he just forgot to tell the president of Nova Iguaçu, who\ stated that he wants to close this issue this Saturday. (LA)

Zé Roberto's permanence remains on the agenda at Flamengo
\ \Thiago Viana -\ tviana@jsports.com.br
\ \Rio de Janeiro: The duel between Schalke 04, from Germany, and Flamengo continues to be a thrilling one. Both want to count on Zé Roberto for 2010, and the athlete's fate is constantly on the verge of uncertainty. But the outcome will not be overlooked beyond next week. The club's vice president of football, Marcos Braz, assures that a proposal has already been sent to the Germans. All that remains is to wait for a response, whether positive or negative.
\
\
"Zé Roberto's situation is complicated, but we made it clear that he interests us. We made an offer for him to stay for a period of two years, but we cannot give details about this. It must have only arrived in their hands on Friday morning, because of the time difference," guarantees the director, guaranteeing zero chance of a possible payment of the amount desired by the club that holds the player's rights.
\
\
"We won't be able to pay two million euros for Zé Roberto, but we believe we can find another solution for his stay," concludes Marcos Braz.

Adriano wants to stay at Fla
\ \The striker's agent tells Fla's vice president of football that the Emperor wants to play in the Libertadores
\ \BY THALES SOARES
\ \Rio - Adriano's permanence is increasingly close to becoming a certainty for Flamengo's board. This Saturday, the vice-president of football, Marcos Braz, had breakfast with the entrepreneur Gilmar Rinaldi, in São Paulo, and received information important information about the fate of the Emperor in 2010.
\
\
Staying at Flamengo has always been a priority in Adriano's mind, and he has received offers from European clubs since his signing was announced in May. The Emperor made it clear after winning his sixth championship title on December 6 that he would have a decisive conversation with his mother, Rosilda, to determine his future.
\
\
It's worth remembering that Adriano left Inter Milan saying he was unhappy in Italy. According to him, the proximity to his friends and the place where he grew up, Vila Cruzeiro, could help him regain the joy of playing football.
\
\
Marcos Braz has been approaching the matter cautiously, but remains confident. The attempt to sign Vágner Love from Palmeiras has reportedly ceased to be a priority, according to the club's director. The focus was on having a respected name in attack, and with Adriano's likely stay, the position would be filled.
\
\
The club's director has been in São Paulo since Thursday to resolve a series of pending issues. One of them is the situation of midfielder Aírton, who has an official offer from Benfica. Today, there will be a new series of meetings with representatives from Traffic and Nova Iguaçu, which hold 35% and 50% of the player's economic rights, respectively. Flamengo holds 15%.
\
\
The release clause is eight million euros (R$20 million). However, if the offered amount approaches R$10 million, it should be enough for Flamengo to release Aírton. Otherwise, he will stay at the club, as coach Andrade wishes.
\
\
Regarding the supporter Everton, Flamengo has already reached an agreement with Traffic and will now talk to the player's agent to agree on the renewal of his contract.
\
\
Regarding possible reinforcements, the director executive Eduardo Manhães has been in contact with businessman Luiz Alberto, who is responsible for the administration of Avaí. Flamengo is interested in signing midfielder Marquinhos, but faces competition from Santos, who appear to be the player's preferred option, especially since he did not have a good run with the Rio de Janeiro club in 2002.

Kleberson dreams of the World Cup
\ \Rio - On vacation in Paraná, midfielder Kleberson is trying to relax after the tense final stretch of the Brasileirão, when he returned to Flamengo at a crucial moment in the campaign for the sixth title after three months injured. His return on January 6th will mark a new stage in the player's life, having been called up by Dunga for the Brazilian national team and was part of the Confederations Cup-winning squad. He dreams of the World Cup in South Africa.
\
\
"It's an important year for Flamengo,\ as the club has been searching for this Libertadores for several seasons. Regarding the World Cup,\ I will continue doing my day and, if you have a chance to dispute once again this competition, will be one of the greatest joys of my career", he said.
\
\
The midfielder finished the year on the bench, and that doesn't seem to bother him. Aware of the importance of having a strong group in a difficult season like the next one, the midfielder knows there will be room for everyone.
\
\
"Whoever sits on the bench as an option needs to understand," explained the player, who is counting on Adriano in the team next season.

\ \Obina closed his doors at Palmeiras after a dispute with Maurício, has not yet heard coach Andrade's request to be reassigned to Flamengo and may end up at Sporting Lisbon. \ \According to the Portuguese newspaper, Obina is seen as the ideal partner for Liedson, a Brazilian who has become a naturalized Portuguese citizen. After several meetings, Airton's transfer remains undefined

\ \\ \ \ \
At 19 years old, midfielder Airton can play in Europe
\ \\ \
In Portugal, the press is confident that Airton will move from Flamengo to Benfica-POR, and the club's coach, Jesus Luz, is already making plans for the player. However, here in Brazil, many meetings are taking place on the matter, and the midfielder's transfer has not yet been finalized.
\ \Benfica has already made an official offer of three million euros for the 19-year-old player. However, as there are three parties involved in the deal – Flamengo, Traffic and Nova Iguaçu – and many interests at stake, closing the deal is not simple.
\ \Even because the Rubro-Negro, owner of only 15% of the athlete's economic rights, does not want to get rid of the midfielder, an absolute starter in Andrade's team. Firstly, because the coach wants to count on the midfielder in the 2010 Libertadores and, secondly, because Flamengo does not receive a large financial compensation for the transfer.
\ \However, Nova Iguaçu, which holds 50% of Airton's rights, and Traffic, with 35%, want to do the deal and are putting pressure on Flamengo. Since Friday in São Paulo, Flamengo's vice president of football, Marcos Braz, has been trying to convince the partners to only finalize the deal later.
\ \"I am hopeful that today [Saturday] we will have a resolution to this case. We will have more meetings," said Nova Iguaçu president Jânio Moraes, who is in Rio de Janeiro and in telephone contact with the other parties, who are in the capital of São Paulo.
\ \Thus, the expectation is that a concrete decision regarding the player's future will be made this Saturday. In Portugal, it is said that Airton will sign a contract with Benfica until 2015 and that the directors are expecting him next week for medical examinations.
\ \If Flamengo loses the midfielder, it will be the first loss to the starting lineup that won the 2009 Brazilian championship. The board's goal is to maintain the base, and to that end, the directors are trying to renew the contracts of Ronaldo Angelim and Everton and keep Zé Roberto.
\ \The latter is more complicated because the midfielder's loan ends at the end of December and Schalke 04-GER, the club that holds the player's rights, is demanding his return and will only agree to a permanent deal. However, Flamengo is studying ways to retain the player and has already sent a proposal to the German directors, who are also listening to Cruzeiro, another club interested in the attacking midfielder.

Businessman confirms proposal from Santos and Fla for Marquinhos, from Avaí
\ \The Lion's captain has already rejected some proposals to leave the team
\ \ \ \\ \
Marquinhos (left) could leave Avaí
\ \Midfielder Marquinhos, captain of the Avaí in the good campaign that the Santa Catarina team had this season, there are two official proposals to leave Leão: one from Flamengo and another of Santos. In an interview for the program "TVCOM Esportes", the owner of the company LA Sports, Luiz Alberto, a partner of the club, spoke about the departure of some important players from Leão.
\
\
"Marquinhos is our number 10, captain, and star player. He's committed to the club, and we are committed to him. He has two official offers: from Flamengo and Santos. He'll only leave if he receives good money for both the player and the club. Marquinhos is a special case. He had the opportunity to leave and stayed, embraced the project, and helped us get promoted. He committed to a year with Avaí in Serie A, and we committed that if an offer came in that was good value for the club and for him, he would go and sign a three-year contract."
\ \
Marquinhos already played for Flamengo in 2002, when he played ten games and didn't score any goals.
\
\
Regarding the five players traded this year, Luiz Alberto explained that everything was within the club's planning:
\
\
"We sold 50% of the player (Léo Gago), a good amount of money came into the club, and we still kept half of the player's transfer fee. Ferdinando went on loan, for a one-year contract, but he belongs to Avaí. Muriqui is being sold 50% to Atlético-MG, with some details still to be finalized."
\
\
Luiz Alberto also did not rule out the departure of more players from Avaí.
\
\
— Football is very dynamic. You can say you're not going to leave, and tomorrow an offer arrives, or we find a player with more quality. We can't stop, or the other teams will run over us.
\
\
The businessman also commented on the possibility of striker William leaving the club:
\
\
"The player has a one-year contract with Avaí and has expressed interest in playing for another club. There's no problem at all; we're not afraid of losing the player. What we want is for him to add value to the club. If the player wants to wear another jersey, he should make an offer for us to analyze, and if it's in the club's best interest, we'll do it," Luiz Alberto concluded.

Scorer of 12 goals in the Brazilian Championship, Obina's federation rights are set at R$6,3 million. The striker will return to Flamengo on January 4th, but the Rio de Janeiro club is considering using him as a bargaining chip or even negotiating him.

Everton Silva alongside Bruno at Flamengo training
\ \the board of Flamengo agreed to purchase the rights to right-back Everton Silva, who belonged to Friburguense. The player signed a four-year contract with the Rubro-negro.
\
\
At 21 years old, Everton Silva arrived at Flamengo at the beginning of the year, recommended by coach Cuca. He played in 27 games that year and helped the team win the Campeonato Carioca and the Brasileirão.
\
\
Flamengo's pre-season should be in Porto Feliz
\
The team's preparation period for the start of the 2009 season will be held in Porto Feliz, in the interior of São Paulo. Fla's football supervisor, Isaías Tinoco, visited the training center there and approved the facilities. The final decision will be made by football vice-president Marcos Braz.

\
The squad will return to training on January 5th in Gávea. Most of the players have already completed the tests, which are common at this time of year.

Flamengo moves to bring Vagner Love
\ \New sponsor will help pay the star's salary
\ \\ \
Sponsorship can help with the high cost of Vagner Love
\ \LANCEPRESS!
\ \Vagner Love will meet with Palmeiras directors this Monday to decide whether to stay with the São Paulo club, with which he has a loan contract until the middle of next year. Determined to count on the striker, who would form a powerful duo with Adriano for the Libertadores, Flamengo set up a marketing operation to facilitate the deal together with CSKA (RUS), which owns the player's rights.
\
\
By Tuesday, according to marketing vice president Ricardo Hinrichsen, Flamengo should have a new shirt sponsor. Hinrichsen was appointed by president Patrícia Amorim to continue the negotiations alongside José Carlos Dias, the former finance vice president, who is expected to remain on the board.
\
\
There are already two concrete proposals, although the director did not confirm the amounts. One is from Bozzano, which currently has its brand on its sleeve and wants to become the main partner. The other is from Batavo, which sponsors Corinthians.
\
\
People close to the new president guarantee that part of the money raised from sponsorships will go toward paying Love's salary. The club is willing to accept no less than R$30 million. Three-quarters of that amount will come from the front-of-shirt sponsorship.
\
\
"Vagner has serious problems with the Palmeiras fans. We know that Flamengo is interested in the player, but so far nothing official has reached me. At Monday's meeting, we will decide whether or not he will stay at Palmeiras," said Evandro Ferreira, Love's agent.
\
\

A lifelong idol of Flamengo fans and current coach of Olympiacos (GRE), Zico will be honored on the stage where he achieved his greatest glories in Brazilian football and ended up being immortalized in the memory of Rio fans. On the 26th (date yet to be confirmed by the creators), the Galinho de Quintino will receive a statue in the Maracanã Hall of Fame.
\ \The inauguration of the long-awaited Zico monument is expected to take place at a closed event the day before the All-Star Game, hosted by Gávea's eternal number 10.
\ \The tribute to Zico only came about after a petition signed by Flamengo fans. The statue of Zico is being created by set designer Abel Gomes, the same one who designed the Christmas tree at Lagoa Rodrigues de Freitas, located in the city's South Zone. Abel also participated in the opening of the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2007 and in the campaign for the 2016 Olympic Games, which will be held in Rio.
