Club introduces Adidas as new sports supplier
With the agreement, Rubro-Negro joins the select group of the five largest clubs in the world sponsored by the German company. The contract is for ten years.
By Communication - Official Club Website - inAt a press conference in the main hall of the Gávea headquarters, Flamengo announced that Adidas will be its sports equipment supplier for the next ten years. Zico attended the event alongside three other representatives of the Mais Querido: vice president of football Wallim Vasconcellos, vice president Walter D'Agostino, and marketing director Fred Luz. Representing the German company were Diogo Guimarães, brand marketing manager, and Fernando Basualdo, president of Adidas Brazil.
"As an Adidas ambassador, I have a lot to say about the brand. I'm very happy to be here, and I want to wish Fernando Basualdo the best of luck. Everywhere in the world, there's a group of Flamengo fans, and that's why Adidas is here today. When two giants come together, the ball goes in. I'd also like to reiterate my invitation to fans to join Nação Rubro-Negra, our fan membership program. This is how Flamengo fans can help Flamengo," said Zico.
Walter D'Agostino, the club's vice president, represented president Eduardo Bandeira de Mello at the press conference. He expressed great confidence in the success of the new partnership and took the opportunity to reinforce Zico's request to the club's fans.
"It's a very exciting moment because Flamengo becomes an A-list club for Adidas. Alongside AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, Flamengo is now among the five biggest clubs that are part of Adidas' life. With great dedication and competence, the board is professionalizing the club, and that's why we achieved this partnership. And the one who will further drive all of this is the fans, who have an obligation to join the Nação Rubro-Negra," said Walter D'Agostino.
This isn't the first time Flamengo and Adidas have partnered. Between 1980 and 1993, the German company supplied the club with sports equipment. During those years, Flamengo won a Club World Cup, a Copa Libertadores, five Brazilian Championship titles, a Copa do Brasil, and three Campeonato Carioca trophies.
"It's an honor to begin a new era with Flamengo. We will humbly work with you to ensure this club, which already has a history of success and tradition, has an even better future. The strength of the fans is undeniable, and it's an honor to wear Flamengo's jersey once again. This partnership will contribute to the internationalization of the Flamengo brand, and starting in 2014, the jersey will be available anywhere in the world where Adidas is present. The Nation will find the Sacred Mantle in global markets," said Fernando Basualdo, president of Adidas Brazil.
On May 10th, pre-sales for Flamengo's new jersey will begin on Adidas' website. Other events to celebrate the partnership will be announced soon. One of these will be the official launch of the jersey on May 23rd.
