Goalkeeper Bruno, Flamengo's captain in their sixth-ever title win, represented the team at the official ceremony honoring the football department for winning the 2009 Brazilian Championship. Bruno received diplomas awarded to all players. The event took place Monday evening in the Gávea Grand Hall, with president Patricia Amorim, vice president of football Marcos Braz, and other club executives, among many board members, also in attendance. Coach Andrade and midfielder Dejan Petkovic also attended.
During the tribute, Chairman of the Board of Directors Mauricio Gomes de Mattos highlighted the club's achievement. "This achievement is, first and foremost, due to the athletes, who worked hard to achieve this glory. What sets us apart from our rivals is our determination, which makes us become a Fla-Flu like we did on Sunday. Thank you very much for bringing joy to the young people who hadn't seen Flamengo become Brazilian champions," he emphasized before ordering the presentation of the diplomas. All the athletes who participated in the campaign were mentioned—even those who finished their season with the club, like Ibson and Josiel. Special mention was also given to Ayer Andrade, an employee in the football statistics department, who has been with Flamengo for almost 50 years.
Marcos Braz, vice president of football, received a plaque and then spoke about the achievement. "As is well known, we won the most dramatic of the Brazilian Championships in the points system. I appreciate the tribute to everyone: from the kit men to the players, from the management to the administrative staff. The efforts are not limited to our board. I thank the directors who preceded me. For our part, we maintained the in-house coaching staff, made few but wise hires, and united the department. Mission accomplished. After 17 years, Flamengo is a six-time Brazilian champion," he said.
Standing next to former acting president Delair Dumbrosck, whom she defeated in the December elections, president Patricia Amorim expressed her recognition and gratitude to the previous board for this title. She also listed what her administration had accomplished even before taking office. "We've maintained the core of the team, our manager Andrade, and our full confidence in our vice-president Marcos Braz. I place our hopes in this group for a fourth state title, a Copa Libertadores title, and a seventh."
