Flamengo's Deliberative Council held an extraordinary meeting this Thursday (18.11) in the main hall of Gávea. The event, which included athletes, advisors and celebrities, brought together the social headquarters and paid tribute to the red-blacks who have provided and continue to provide important services to Brazil's most beloved club.

One of the highlights of the evening was the awarding of the title of great benefactor (a benefactor who, for a period of ten years or more, counting from the date of the award, has continued to provide outstanding services to the club) to Hélio Barroso. Overjoyed with the title, he promised to continue dedicating his life to Flamengo.

"I've been with the club for over fifty years and I can evaluate this tribute with a simple phrase. I am and am very proud to be Flamengo. Always. Always will be," summarized Helio.

Present at the ceremony, which honors so many Flamengo fans like her, Flamengo president Patricia Amorim highlighted the love and dedication of the 'stars of the night'.

"It is with immense satisfaction that I am part of another meeting like this. This time, as president. I feel proud every time I see the story of selfless people who dedicate so much of their lives to the club. Like me, they always want the best for Flamengo and deserve these titles. Our history, our glorious past, and the people who helped write it must always be remembered," said Patricia.

Among the night's honorees, several Flamengo celebrities received honorary membership. As they carry Flamengo's name, image, and mystique throughout the country, singer-songwriter Arlindo Cruz and actors Marcelo Serrado and Heitor Martinez were honored.

With equal importance, great champions from the club were also honored as sporting highlights of 2010. Fabiana Beltrame, rower, the first Olympic athlete in the sport, in 2004 and 2008, for winning a bronze medal in the final stage of the World Cup in Switzerland. Daniele Hipólyto, gymnast, who has already participated in three Olympic Games, for being a finalist at the World Championships in the Netherlands. And Jade Barbosa, also a gymnast, who won a bronze medal in the individual all-around final at the World Championships in Germany. It was the first time Brazil won a medal in this category at the competition.

The youth academy boys, undefeated champions of the State Youth Championship, were also honored, as was the entire coaching staff.

Carlos Antonio Egger de Mendonça – Head Boatman of the Rowing Department
Claudio Tavares de Lima (Claudinho) – His career at the club began in 1980 as a messenger for the general secretary. He was then promoted to office assistant in the collections department. In 1986, he was promoted to typist. In 1993, he was promoted to deputy head of collections. In 2002, he was promoted to the position of financial assistant, and in July 2010, he was promoted to financial coordinator.
Jorge Luiz Domingos – works at the Football Department's Medical Center - He left the Portuguesa club to work at FLAMENGO as a masseur in the football department, where he still works today.
