This Saturday (August 16.08th) Maestro Júnior's 60th birthday was celebrated in Gávea. Approximately 70 former players and friends of Vovô Garoto attended the event's commemorative match, which also featured the Charanga Rubro-Negra and the Children's and Youth Choir of the Rocinha Music School. At the end of the match, everyone present sang happy birthday to the birthday boy, who blew out the candles on a personalized cake for Gávea's eternal number 5.
Júnior didn't hide his emotion at the tribute, but this feeling wasn't exclusive to the Maestro. The former players present made clear their admiration for their former athlete and friend. Zico made a point of emphasizing Júnior's importance in the lives of his friends who attended the event. "Junior is my brother, right? One of the most important people I've ever known. Rest assured that anything done for him will still be little compared to what he deserves," said the Galinho.
Cláudio Adão, one of the Flamengo idols who played alongside Grandpa Boy, was also present at the party. "It's incredibly moving to see everyone from our era, when football was so beautiful. I'm even a little emotional that we're all here together, healthy, to play together again and celebrate our friend's birthday," he said.
The event was also attended by Rondinelli, who attested to his affection for the Maestro. "Júnior is a unique figure, with incredible qualities. Having the ability to celebrate his 60th birthday and bring together so many different generations is very gratifying, and he deserves it more than anyone. May God bless him, grant him good health and peace so that we can always celebrate this reunion of so many generations," wished the God of Race, echoing Silva Batuta. "Talking about Júnior is always a pleasure. I remember when he arrived at Gávea, still a boy, and today that boy has become an example as a father and friend... As a player, it goes without saying. I'm proud to be this man's friend," he praised.
Jayme de Almeida also attended the Maestro's celebration. "Júnior is a friend of mine for 40 years. I met him at Flamengo when I was exactly 20 years old, and since then, a friendship has been forged that endures to this day. As an athlete, everyone knows his ability, what he accomplished as a person, as a man... His friendships, the respect he has for everyone. He is a role model for everyone, both professionally and professionally. I'm very proud to be here," said the former defender and coach of the Mais Querido.
Former Flamengo and Brazilian national team left-back Leonardo, who occupied the position that for years belonged to Grandpa Boy, proved that, more than just being friends, everyone there shared a deep admiration for the birthday boy. "This entire generation means a lot. Perhaps they represent all the values a player or a team should have, something like the ideal team. Great players who play together, admire each other, and end up winning unforgettable titles. Júnior is a symbol of this generation and means a lot to all of us. He was a guide for me.
