With a flawless performance, Diego Hypolito won the first gold medal of the season. Despite being unable to perform "Hypolito 2," he won the floor exercise at the World Gymnastics Cup in Maribor, Slovenia, this Saturday. Silver went to Israel's Alex Shatilov and bronze to Croatia's Filip Ude.

In the opening round in Cottbus, Germany, Diego took two silver medals: on the floor and on the vault. Later this Saturday, the Brazilian will compete in the vault final.

On Friday, Diego led the qualifying rounds with 15,700 points. In the final, he scored 15,300 to secure the gold medal. The debut of the "Hypolito 2" vault had to be postponed because the refereeing committee refused to allow the gymnast to perform it in the qualifying rounds. The argument was that he needed to have recorded the exercise and sent it on DVD a few days before the competition so that the referees could assess its value under the new scoring code.
