Priceless donation to the club
Valido's shirt, worn in the title game of the first Tri Carioca, in 1944, is donated to Flamengo

On Monday morning (February 17.02), at the Gávea headquarters, President Eduardo Bandeira de Mello received, on behalf of Flamengo, a priceless donation. Henrique Fernando, Valido's son, donated the jersey his father wore when he headed the goal that gave the Mais Querido its third state championship in 1944. The Sacred Mantle worn by the former player, who would have turned 100 in 2014, will be one of the pieces in the Mais Querido's future museum. Bruno Lucena, coordinator of Historical Heritage, celebrated the event.
"As coordinator, I feel honored that the family has placed their trust in our work. It's the donation of a relic that belongs not only to the family but also to the entire Flamengo fan base. It was the first Tri Carioca, the first major title, shrouded in history and magic. It's a source of great joy and happiness to see this jersey return to the club. We can only be grateful, as Valido was a very important figure in Flamengo's history," he said.
The donated jersey came inside a frame, which also contained two banners. One was from the 1944 Tri Carioca championship itself. The other was from the 1965 state youth championship, when Valido was Flamengo's director of football. The idea for the donation came from the former player's son.
"When I saw that Flamengo was going to honor my father with the hashtag Valido100 on the shirt, I was very moved and knew the club hadn't forgotten him. So, I thought about approaching Flamengo's management to donate the shirt, as it's a club asset and has inestimable value. Just as my father did, there's nothing better than contributing to the club's history. This painting was a gift from my father to me, and I'm very honored to donate it to the club I love," said Henrique Fernando.
Italian cartoonist and red-and-black
Also on Monday, at the Gávea headquarters, President Eduardo Bandeira de Mello had the honor of receiving cartoonist Lan, who will turn 89 on Tuesday (18.02). Born in Italy, he arrived in Brazil at the age of 26 and became a passionate Flamengo fan due to the influence of Otelo Caçador, a great Brazilian cartoonist.
"During the 50s and 80s, Lan created countless cartoons about soccer. As he's a Flamengo fan, he took great care with the ones featuring Flamengo. There are hundreds of Lan's cartoons about Flamengo, which fill any fan with pride," explained Bruno Lucena.
Bruno Lucena also said there's a plan to hold an exhibition of Lan's work on the Mais Querido next year, as the artist will turn 90 in 2015.
