Eduardo Bandeira de Mello takes office at Flamengo
The presidency transfer ceremony took place in Gávea, this Thursday

On December 2nd, Eduardo Bandeira de Mello will begin his role as president of Flamengo. Elected in early December, the president was sworn in this Thursday (December 27.12th) in a ceremony held in the main hall of the club's headquarters in Gávea. The vice presidents who will join the board were also announced.
Following protocol, the newly elected president of the Deliberative Council, Delair Dumbrosck, presided over the ceremony. He first announced the presence of President Patricia Amorim and her vice-president, Helio Ferraz, and then the incoming president, Eduardo Bandeira de Mello, and his vice-president, Walter D'Agostino.
Bandeira de Mello raised the red-and-black flag to the sound of the club anthem, and finally, the ceremony began. The last to speak, Flamengo's president for the next three years offered his thanks and demonstrated that the transition had been smooth.
"I'm very excited to be here. I've said it over and over that, after my family, Flamengo is the most important thing in my life. I'd like to thank president Patricia Amorim, who led this transition process with such harmony. I will continue to count on her throughout my term, and I can say that all the criticisms I've made and will make have nothing to do with my personal life. I also thank my family, friends, members, and fans. It's a great honor to be here," said Eduardo Bandeira de Mello, revealing the step-by-step process of how he went from fan to president.
"A few months ago, it would have been unthinkable to be here. When I learned about the coalition of some friends, businesspeople, and successful executives running for a ticket, I thought, 'I'm going with it.' On the day of the launch, Wallim called me and asked to talk. He wanted me to be plan B, as the candidacy might not be accepted. Everyone already knows what happened, and I began to actively participate in everything, in a movement that prioritized love for Flamengo and professionalism. We attracted fans and members and received support from various groups linked to the club and from traditional figures in Flamengo politics, who understood that we had the best proposal. We secured 1414 votes, and our challenge is to transform our administration into a successful one."
Regarding the future, Flamengo's new president promised to work tirelessly to ensure the club honors the trust of the members who participated in the election victory and the fans who hope for better days.
"We have a huge responsibility and we cannot disappoint the nation. We have to deliver victories on and off the field, which is our main challenge. We finished the Brazilian Championship as the fourth-placed team in Rio de Janeiro, and I suffered greatly with the specter of relegation to the second division. But off the field, the problems are more worrying. We have a reputation as a club that pays poorly, disrespects contracts, and lacks transparency and accountability as taxpayers. A situation like this cannot happen in a club with 40 million fans. Children and teenagers read the headlines in the newspapers. And what example are we setting them? Fans are embarrassed when the club doesn't pay its employees, when they read that it's in debt. How can we demand professional conduct from our athletes if we don't behave professionally ourselves?" stated the new president, explaining that the new board's initial focus will be to resolve Flamengo's debt.
"I am a public servant, the son and grandson of a public servant. We must show respect for public institutions, for the Brazilian nation. We will not rest until we resolve Flamengo's liabilities. It is a moral duty. When we reach an agreement, we will fulfill it faithfully. Even if we have to sacrifice something socially or administratively. We will pursue this with the greatest determination in the world, and I have no doubt that we will restore Flamengo's credibility, putting the club in its rightful place. The nation will have reason to be proud," he concluded.
