The postcard scene took on shades of red and black. Two weeks after winning their sixth Brazilian championship, Flamengo fans took advantage of a sunny Sunday morning in Rio de Janeiro and held a parade along the beaches of Ipanema and Leblon. In a peaceful atmosphere, the Flamengo supporters walked from Post 9 to Post 12 singing, celebrating the title and not sparing any taunts towards their rivals.
 
The large flags and drums transformed the beachfront promenade – which is turned into a recreational area on Sundays – into a branch of the Maracanã stadium's stands.

But while Flamengo's celebrations seem endless, some already see an expiration date for so much euphoria.

"When the Libertadores Cup starts, everything changes," said office assistant Marco Antônio Cota, who attended the march wearing a champion's sash.

For the fans who were in the stadium for the victory over Grêmio, the magnitude of the Flamengo supporters' joy is proportional to the moments of tension experienced by the team in the last round of the competition.

"When Zico was there, we went to the stadium certain that we would be champions. Nowadays it's different, even more so with the recent disappointments at the Maracanã," he said, recalling episodes such as the elimination from the 2008 Libertadores Cup in a packed stadium.
 
But even those who didn't witness the dramatic turnaround against the gauchos seemed far from wanting to interrupt the festivities.

"I watched it on television, but it was thrilling. It's always like that with Flamengo," said university student Ton Bauer, 29, who admitted that he had witnessed his favorite team's championship campaign in the Brazilian Championship for the first time.
 
After about three hours of celebration, a beer can thrown into the air, which narrowly missed a female fan, almost spoiled the party. But the disagreement was quickly resolved as the Flamengo supporters gradually dispersed.
