The Brazilian gymnastics team achieved a strong result in its final test before the Beijing Olympics. The team placed third in the team competition at the Mediterraneo Gym Cup International Tournament, held in Rome this Saturday. The team finished behind the hosts, Italy, and Romania, who confirmed their favoritism and took the gold medal in the competition. In the individual all-around, Jade Barbosa shone again, securing the bronze. Brazil narrowly missed out on the silver medal in the team competition. The Brazilian team scored 230.250 points, just 0.250 behind Italy. Romania, meanwhile, scored 230.500. In the individual all-around, Jade scored 58,550 points and showed her sharpness on vault, where she achieved her best score of 15,100. The gold medal went to Italy's Vanessa Ferrari (59,700) and the silver to Romania's Sandra Izbasa (59,550). Now, the Brazilian team continues its training for the most important event of the year, the Beijing Games. According to Eliane Martins, the team's supervisor, the competition in Rome, which was attended by around 7,5 people, was very good for their Olympic preparation. "The gym was full, there was a lot of noise. And the referees were the same ones who will be at the Olympics," says the supervisor.
