Team displays banner thanking fans

Maracanã screen shows video in solidarity with Haiti

Flamengo's 2010 season debut featured a simple tribute from the team to its fans. Before the start of the game, which ended in a 3-2 victory over Duque de Caxias, Flamengo displayed a banner with the following message: "The greatest fans in the world made the difference. Thank you, Nation."

The banner commemorates the fans' support during the campaign that led the club to its sixth Brazilian championship title. Videos were also shown on the Maracanã's big screen, one thanking the fans and another with a message of solidarity for the people of Haiti, who have been suffering from the effects of a powerful earthquake that killed thousands, including Brazilian Zilda Arns, founder of the Pastoral da Criança (Children's Pastoral).
