"Exaltation of Flamengo" is the big winner of the 1st Brazilian Mengo Popular Festival
"Hit" from Vitória (ES) was chosen by a jury of illustrious red-blacks among the five finalists

With organized fans and shouts of "it's the champion!", the hit "Exaltação ao Flamengo" was the big winner of the 1st Mengo Popular Brazilian Music Festival - MPB. Promoted by the Department of Historical Heritage/Flamengo Museum Institute, the event took place on the evening of last Friday (16.11), during the seventh edition of Papo Rubro-Negro, at the FlaConcept store, at the club's social headquarters, in Gávea.
Champion composers Leley do Cavaco, Ronilson Rodrigues, and Leco do Cavaco received the Wilson Batista Trophy (named after the composer who wrote several songs about Flamengo in the 40s and 50s) from president Patrícia Amorim and museum director Mauro Chaves. The group, from Vitória, Espírito Santo, was thrilled.
"I have no words to describe this moment. I would just like to thank everyone who voted for us and the judges for choosing our song. Thank you to the club with the biggest fan base in the country!" said Leley do Cavaco.
Five songs – all with the theme of Flamengo's Centennial of Football – were presented in the grand final: "This is Flamengo", by Douglas Floriano Bezerra; "Mengão, Mengão", by Di Penna; "Race, Love and Passion", by Vinicius Nagem; "Fla Maior", by Julian T. Probst; and "Exaltation of Flamengo", by Leley and Leco do Cavaco and Ronilson Rodrigues.
In the first phase of the competition, the hits were selected from 12 songs through a popular vote on the club's official website. A panel of judges, made up of musicians and prominent figures from the club, chose the winner. The jury was comprised of Max Viana, Bebeto, Mestre Marcão, Cunhado, Ruth Alves, Célia Domingues, Tunico, Zequinha Santos, and Tuninha.
All composers also received a diploma for participating in the festival and will have their songs immortalized in the Mengo Popular Brasileiro installation at the Flamengo Museum, as pioneers of the 1st MPB Festival.
