Famous Football Club: Carmen Miranda was Flamengo
Carmen miranda, if she were alive, she would complete 100 years next Monday, February 9th. As the area of activity of the SOCK BALL is football, I now present the passion of the 'Little Remarkable' for Flamengo. The person who contributed to this post was none other than Ruy Castro, one of the greatest Brazilian writers, author of the biographies of Garrincha, Nelson Rodrigues and her, the woman who arrived to be the highest paid in the United States.
With you, Ruy Castro:
"Carmen Miranda was a Flamengo fan, did you know? Although she was born in Portugal, she came to Brazil when she was 10 months old, in December 1909 and created in the midst of the huge Portuguese colony in Rio, became a red-black at the age of 16, when she started dating Mario Cunha, Flamengo rower and the son of one of the club's founders. During the seven years of their relationship, until 1932, Carmen had the opportunity to support Flamengo in countless rowing and other sports competitions.
Carmen was the only red and black sheep in her family, all made up of Vasco fans: brother Mocotó, who was a rower for Vasco and the Brazilian national team, sister Aurora, brother-in-law Gabriel and nephews.
In January 1955, in Rio, Carmen was taken by them to Maracanã to watch the 1954 Rio de Janeiro championship final, between Flamengo and Vasco.. O Flamengo won 2-1 and was a two-time champion. Carmen was so excited in the special seats that her brother-in-law called her to attention. But she replied: "Oh, my son, Flamengo, Carnival, samba, it's all the same thing!"
In August of that year, when Carmen died in Los Angeles, Flamengo's president, Gilberto Cardoso, issued an official statement lamenting the death of the 'great red-black'."
Ruy Castro worked for five years on Carmen's biography, producing an admirable work. Ruy made a request to SOCK BALL: "Was it worth it, Bernardo? How about taking a beautiful photo of Carmen and coloring it red and black?"The art was done by BRUNO SERGIO, a creative genius here at Globo websiteNow, the red-and-blacks can add Carmen Miranda to the list of famous fans. Perhaps the most illustrious.
