Fla wins the opening seven-a-side football tournament

The competition's decision, won on penalties, was against Botafogo

Flamengo defeated Botafogo on penalties and won the 7-a-side Football Opening Tournament, which was played last Sunday at the Iate Clube Jardim Guanabara, Ilha do Governador. The Tournament kicks off the Carioca Championship, which will be played starting on Saturday (02.06).

On Sunday (27.05), the teams played eight games in single elimination rounds. The Rubro-negro team reached the grand final of the Torneio Início, against Botafogo, after beating Madureira (3-1), América (5-0) and Olaria (2-0). The grand final ended in a 1-1 draw in normal time with goals from Rony (Flamengo) and Eduardo (Botafogo).

In the penalty shootout, Flamengo maintained its discipline and converted both penalties, while Botafogo missed both. Rony, the Flamengo's number 10, couldn't hide his joy at the victory.

"It's great to win, and we'll certainly have a well-balanced championship. We were behind, but we managed to turn the score around. This shows what a close-knit team Flamengo has."

 The special secretary of the Rio de Janeiro mayor's office, Luiz Antonio Guaraná, attended the opening ceremony of the Campeonato Carioca and was presented with a Flamengo jersey. Vice President of Administration Cacau Cotta also attended the match, representing the head of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, Patricia Amorim.
