Flamengo embraces partnership project with CUFA
Rubro-negro will be a partner of the institution and will welcome promising talents revealed in the Copa das Favelas

The presidents of the four major Rio de Janeiro clubs—Patrícia Amorim of Flamengo, Peter Siemsen of Fluminense, Maurício Assumpção of Botafogo, Roberto Dinamite of Vasco, and Elias Duba of Madureira—were at an event this Friday morning at the Rede Globo kiosk on Copacabana beach to sign a partnership with CUFA (Central Única das Favelas) to welcome promising players participating in the Copa das Favelas, a project created in partnership with Globo Rio that encourages the practice of soccer in Rio's favelas. The event also featured Celso Athayde, director of CUFA.
The idea is to promote the growth of the Favelas Cup. In 2011, the first edition of the Cup, 80 teams spread across Rio de Janeiro's favelas brought together 20.000 children.
President Patricia Amorim, the first to arrive at the event, commented on the importance of the agreement. She believes it will be an important partnership to unlock new promise, but most importantly, to further enhance her role in the development of these children.
"When it comes to the favela, Flamengo feels at home. We're the favela's team. We have representatives from all walks of life, and we're not ashamed of that. When I heard about the project, I embraced it. It's an opportunity to celebrate and reveal new promise. Furthermore, clubs have an important social responsibility. Flamengo always takes responsibility for providing assistance in this regard," said the club's president.
Patricia Amorim was accompanied by the vice-presidents of football Paulo Cesar Coutinho and External Relations, Walter Oaquim, as well as the football director, Zinho, who also took the opportunity to tell a little of his story for those who dream of a place in the "world of football".
"I was only 11 years old and I left Nova Iguaçu at five in the morning to come and train in Gávea. My mother was against it, but my father, like a good Paraíba native, didn't let me give up. I've won a few titles in my life, and today I see that all that effort was worth it. So, if you believe in your dream, don't give up. Go after it."
