From May 31st to June 7th, the first edition of the Green Nation Fest will take place at Quinta da Boa Vista, Rio de Janeiro. This interactive, sensory festival encourages visitors to take action for a more sustainable world. Flamengo, which is supporting the event, is urging the nation to attend.
One of the most popular areas for visitors will be the "Bike Goal." Flamengo fans will compete with their Rio rivals and pedal to generate energy for Flamengo. They will power a generator used in other festival attractions and will even be able to see a goal from Brazil's Most Beloved for every watt generated.
A selection of Flamengo's greatest goals will be available on a tablet attached to the bicycle. Official club gifts will also be distributed at the event.
The event will have three major attractions: the Interactive and Sensory Fair, the International Film Festival with 12 feature films, and International Seminars on "Green and Creative Economy," open for debate.
The seminars feature national and international guests who will discuss green alternatives applied to architecture and urban planning, technology, gastronomy, art, fashion, and other areas. Confirmed speakers include filmmaker Josh Fox, who will discuss his experience directing and producing the documentary "Gasland," a 2011 Oscar nominee and Sundance Festival winner; Emmanuel Belliveau, architect and host of the reality show "Eco-Friendly Homes"; Franz Krajcberg, who will discuss his fight for environmental protection; Carmen Correia, who will present culinary trends and green recipes; and Brian Korgel, who is developing a solar paint capable of generating energy.
Other attractions at the festival include: Carbon Footprint, Quiz Space, bird watching tour, Cartoon Exhibition, sponsoring a tree, workshops and a Yoga class.
