"Flamengo's greatest marketing strategy is winning." The statement made by Flamengo president Patricia Amorim at the press conference that revealed the club's uniforms for the rest of the season clearly illustrates Flamengo's thinking regarding the partnership with Procter & Gamble. Owner of the Gillette and Duracell deodorant brands, which will be featured on the club's jersey starting Sunday (August 14.08), the company celebrated the deal with Brazil's most popular club, hoping to be even closer to its consumers.

The sponsorship will begin appearing on the sacred jersey during the Brasileirão match against Figueirense this Sunday. However, for consumers, it should be available in stores within 30 days.

Happy with the positive outcome of negotiations with her new partner, the president of Flamengo hopes that the 'courtship' will become a lasting marriage.

"I'm immensely pleased to present this new partnership today. I call it a partnership because we always envision having large companies like Procter & Gamble with us, representing the stature of Flamengo. The brands were approved yesterday (Thursday), in a nearly unanimous decision by our board of directors, proving that they were very well received. We are always concerned with the quality of the brand we will display on our sacred mantle," said Patricia Amorim, hoping that the partnership can be extended to the club's soccer jersey and even include other sports.

"Besides considering extending our relationship with these brands, we want the partnership to expand, perhaps to other sports. Flamengo is very large and can offer this to its partners. I always say that Flamengo is a nation with a team, while others have teams with fans. The expectation for next year is to extend it; that's how we work. It's obvious that we've just started a relationship, and now we can think about turning it into a marriage."

On Procter & Gamble's side, the company's communications director also praised the deal with Flamengo and, in addition, the size of the Nation.

"It's the union of great brands. For us, it's a great honor to be part of this immense nation. Flamengo has a passion that's not just in Rio de Janeiro. It's a national club, and for us, that's fundamental. We're getting to know each other, but I can say that our partnerships are always long-lasting. Our intention is for the partnership to last a long time and, as the president said, become a marriage," said Gabriela Duarte, explaining that the deal with Flamengo wasn't a one-time deal.

"We are a North American company and our fiscal year has just begun. We saw the possibility of a partnership with Flamengo, and given the club's grandeur, we entered into negotiations. We are partnering with a great nation, and so it makes sense for us to begin this partnership now," he added, referring to August, the second half of the Brazilian football season.

Representing the Flamengo marketing department, director Marcus Duarte also recalled that the three brands (Gillette Deodorant, Duracell and Flamengo) will not only walk together on the pitch.

"The department is open to any suggestions and new possibilities to bring brands closer to our fans. Just as we will bring consumers of these brands closer to the club. We will build this relationship together, and we hope it won't just be on the field. We plan to implement other initiatives that will be beneficial for both parties," he explained.
