Flamengo approves concession of Morro da Viúva headquarters
Rubro-Negro councilors voted in favor of a project that will transform the building into a state-of-the-art hotel.

With 316 votes in favor and only three against, Flamengo's board members approved the project granting the EBX group the concession of the Morro da Viúva headquarters in Flamengo for 25 years, renewable for another 25 years. With the decision, Flamengo will receive numerous benefits and will also have its R$16 million property tax debt forgiven.
On a hectic night, the Flamengo board members concluded that granting the space, which had long been underutilized, would be the best course of action for the club. With the decision, Flamengo, in addition to forgiving its large debt, will receive R$17.630.000, the right to use 20 rooms as a training ground for the professional team, and a 2,63% share of the future hotel's revenue. A minimum guarantee of R$270 per month was also given to the club. However, this will only be paid if the percentage does not exceed this amount.
Very happy with the approval of the project, the president of Flamengo, who cultivated it from the beginning, campaigning in the city council to include the Morro da Viúva headquarters in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Project, which made debt forgiveness possible, Patricia Amorim thanked the councilors.
"We undoubtedly demonstrated that Flamengo lives in a democracy, where freedom of thought is permitted. The board committed to presenting solutions to our problem, and one of them was this project, which has been in the works for two years. Today, we solved the problem of the Morro da Viúva headquarters, which owes over 16 million in outstanding property taxes, in addition to the outstanding debt we paid every month. I'm certain that everyone who came to vote did what was best for the club. We fulfilled our obligation, which is to remain committed to the best for the red-and-blacks," stated the president.
According to the project, an investment of over R$100 million will be made in the future hotel, which will be called Parque do Flamengo and will initially have 454 rooms. The property's modernization promises to meet the highest hotel standards and is expected to be completed by the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
