Following the heavy rain that battered Rio de Janeiro, causing many deaths and leaving thousands homeless, the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo (Flamengo Regatta Club) set up a collection and donation station for victims across the state. Those wishing to contribute can bring non-perishable food, clothing, disposable diapers, hygiene and cleaning supplies, and drinking water to the club's headquarters in Gávea. The station will open this Friday, April 09th, and is located on the first floor, across from the Official Fla-Concept Store.
In this afternoon's match, valid for the Copa Libertadores da América, the players will enter the field carrying a banner that says: Flamengo is in Solidarity with the Victims of the Rain.
"Anything we can do to alleviate the suffering of these people is a start. Flamengo is big, has a huge fan base, and we hope to raise as much money as possible to help," said club president Patricia Amorim.
Everything collected will be sent to the collection points of the State Government of Rio de Janeiro.
