Flamengo and UNICEF hold workshop in Gávea
The objective of the activity was to strengthen measures to protect the rights of children and adolescents

As part of the partnership between UNICEF and Flamengo, a workshop for the club's educators and coaches was held this Monday morning (June 25.06) at the Rogerio Steinberg Auditorium, at the Gávea headquarters. The objective of the activity was to strengthen measures to protect the rights of children and adolescents who play sports at the club and in soccer schools or participate in Flamengo's social projects.
Present at the opening were President Patricia Amorim, the new UNICEF representative in Brazil, Gary Stall, Judge Siro Darlan, Vice President of External Relations, Walter Oaquim, and the new Director of Social Responsibility, Moacyr Barreto.
The UNICEF representative highlighted the importance of the partnership.
"This partnership has international significance. Those who have daily contact with children are the most important people in their development. The actions and attitudes of everyone here today are fundamental to making us a top-notch team. We have great confidence in this partnership."
said Gary.
President Patricia Amorim also highlighted the unprecedented partnership between Flamengo and Unicef.
"Flamengo has established an unprecedented partnership, unlike any other club in the world because it doesn't involve money. It's an ideological and philosophical partnership where we're committed to providing exceptional training. Today, Flamengo prioritizes investing in its youth academy and training its professionals so that the club can be a catalyst for socially responsible initiatives," said the president, who also spoke about the importance of this training for employees.
"We invest in our employees. Since I took office, we've been paying salaries for 30 months. The goal is to value each employee and ensure our employees are committed to the institution. Flamengo deserves to be valued because it's a club that cares about its people. Today, with this training, you leave here as different people, committed to good training. Through the proposals of each person here today, we will make Flamengo a better club," concluded the Flamengo president.
Flamengo's professionals participated in lectures and group dynamics related to the rights of children and adolescents. The training covered topics such as legislation, ways to contribute to the full development of girls and boys through safe and inclusive sports, and preventing abuse, exploitation, and violence.
Amid preparations for the World Cup (2014) and the Olympic/Paralympic Games (2016), the idea is that Flamengo and UNICEF can directly influence the current practices of sports clubs and make sport a more engaged environment for the cause of childhood and adolescence, thus contributing to the construction of a social legacy of these initiatives.
In Partnership with - The activity is part of the partnership between Flamengo and UNICEF launched in November last year with the signing of the commitment "My team is a 10!" by Flamengo's president, Patrícia Amorim, and the UNICEF representation in Brazil.
The document is a set of 10 principles related to the protection and promotion of the rights of children and adolescents – athletes and non-athletes – inside and outside the club.
By joining the commitment, Flamengo committed to strengthening its social responsibility actions and mobilizing its athletes and fans through an action plan monitored by UNICEF.
Coaches, social workers, and psychologists who work directly with children and adolescents at Flamengo play a fundamental role in these initiatives. Their influence goes beyond the playing field. During training sessions and matches, they can teach children and adolescents important values such as respect, team spirit, and tolerance. They can also help combat prejudice and negative behaviors that lead to acts of physical violence and abuse.
Other measures are planned for the coming months, such as the adoption of codes of conduct for employees, internal actions to prevent cases of abuse, violence and exploitation in sports, and the participation of athletes in campaigns in favor of the right to safe and inclusive sport.
