Flamengo received, last Tuesday (17.05), around 50 children from the Cantagalo community, in Copacabana, for friendly matches against the red-black futsal, in the under-11, under-13 and under-16 categories. The opportunity was made possible, jointly, by the coach and trainer of the club's futsal school Alex Pires and the PM soldier and coordinator of the sports project in the community Luiz Alexandre Santos.
Alex, the head of the Flamengo futsal team, was thrilled with the opportunity to interact with the children of Cantagalo. Not only did it offer a unique experience for the boys in the community, but it also gave the Flamengo boys a chance to learn.
"I've always wanted to do this integration, which is an experience for both teams. I'm very happy to offer the children of Cantagalo the best that Flamengo has to offer in terms of infrastructure," said Alex, emotionally.
The commander of the Cantagalo UPP, Nogueira, highlighted the importance of sport and this integration for children.
"Before the project, the children had no discipline. Now, they can play in perfect harmony. Sports provide that," he said, adding that he is the Cantagalo team's most ardent fan.
"Every game I go to, I get nervous. I really support the boys."
Striker Yuri, a resident of Cantagalo, couldn't hide his joy at playing against Flamengo.
"Everyone on the bus was very excited to be coming to play for Flamengo. It's not my first time at the club, but the first time I've played against them. I'm nervous and happy at the same time," said the boy, just 11 years old.
After the matches, two boys from Cantagalo received a very pleasant surprise. Igor Amarante and Marcos Vinicius Sousa were invited to try out for Flamengo's youth team.
