Flamengo plays its role in the formation of citizens
New Talents Project, launched by Patricia Amorim, serves around 800 underprivileged young people in Gávea

Launched in 2003 by Flamengo's current president, Patricia Amorim, the New Talents Project continues to do wonderful social work at the club's Gávea headquarters. Around 800 children and adolescents, ages five to 16, both public school students and residents of underserved communities, participate in sports activities from Tuesday to Friday at the Fadel Fadel Aquatic Park, and have already become role models.
Since most of these young people couldn't properly practice water sports, Patricia Amorim came up with the project. Classes, lasting 40 minutes, are held from 11:13 AM to 40:30 PM, and each class, with up to XNUMX students, is supervised by a teacher and an intern. Four classes are served per day.
Such dedication has already borne fruit and, in addition to developing citizens, the club is revealing talents that might otherwise have disappeared due to social inequality.
"Several athletes who make up Flamengo's water polo, swimming, and synchronized swimming teams came from this project. I'm proud to be a part of it all. These young people wouldn't have the opportunity to play sports if it weren't for the club. I've been here for three years and I know how rewarding it is to see their dedication," said George, a swimming instructor.
The project's success is so great that more than 100 children and adolescents are on a waiting list for spots, which usually open in February and August. To participate, young people simply need to be referred to the project through public schools and neighborhood associations.
"This project is a source of pride for Flamengo members. If it weren't for Patricia's help, these young people, who don't have the financial means, wouldn't be able to play sports," said member Vera Lucia dos Santos, delighted with the joy of those who benefited from the New Talents program.
"It's really cool here. I really enjoy swimming at Flamengo and making friends here," concluded João Antônio Araújo, 7 years old, who has been part of the project for over a year.
