Flamengo surprises, gives gifts and moves Zagallo
On the day he turns 80, Velho Lobo relived the happy moments he had with the mantle

A living legend of football. That's how the winner Zagallo can be defined. A pivotal figure in Flamengo's history, the Old Wolf turned 80 this Tuesday (August 09.08) and received a surprise at his home: a personalized sacred jersey, a painting with mementos of his time at the club, and a phone call from president Patricia Amorim. All the gifts, along with the memories of his achievements wearing the sacred jersey, touched this Brazilian, whom the country of football has come to love.
Zagallo already knew he would receive a visit from Flamengo representatives that afternoon. However, he didn't know what was in store. He received a current Flamengo jersey, with his name written on the back, along with the number 80. He also received a painting depicting some important moments from his successful career with the club. From that moment on, his good old-fashioned passion prevailed.
"Pet's goal in 2001 was one of the most emotional moments of my life. It still gives me goosebumps," said Zagallo, showing his arms.
But it wasn't just the moments on the sidelines that moved the Old Wolf. As a player, he won many titles wearing the sacred mantle.
"I can't help but praise all the titles I won for the club. They were very important," said Zagallo, who as a player won, among other trophies, the three-time championship in 53/54/55.
Zagallo arrived at Flamengo in 1951, still a youth player, signed from América. He remained with the club until 1958, the year he represented Flamengo in Brazil's first World Cup title. He then returned to Gávea as a coach three times.
