Flamengo mourns the death of red-black Rodolfo Fernandes
Club will pay tribute to the editorial director of the newspaper O Globo, who passed away this Saturday

Flamengo Regatta Club extends its condolences to the family of Flamengo journalist Rodolfo Fernandes, editor-in-chief of the newspaper O Globo, who passed away this Saturday afternoon at the São Vicente Clinic in Gávea, Rio de Janeiro's South Zone. At 49, he had been battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) since July 2009.
Flamengo president Patrícia Amorim deeply regretted the journalist's death and ordered Flamengo to pay all due tributes. The team will also mourn the derby against Vasco da Gama this Sunday (August 28.08) at the Engenhão stadium. A minute of silence will also be observed before the match.
"Flamengo loses an illustrious fan, a lover of football and journalism, a professional who always practiced his profession with excellence," said Patrícia.
A passionate fan of the Mais Querido, Rodolfo was a board member and member of the club. He was charismatic and loved by all. Because of this, he built close friendships at Flamengo, despite never getting involved in club politics.
A close friend of Rodolfo, the Benefactor Vinicius França had the honor of watching Ronaldinho's final goal, in the match against Atlético-PR in the Copa Sudamericana, alongside the journalist. Besides França, Flamengo's vice-president of the Board of Directors, Julio Cezar Lauro Alzuguir, and pediatrician Dida Mader, a club advisor, also held Fernandes in high regard. The latter even declared that he loved Rodolfo and "considered him one of the greatest Flamengo fans of our generation."
Flamengo's executive director, Luiz Augusto Veloso, another who had a strong friendship with Rodolfo, recalled the good times he shared with his teammate.
"I celebrated Flamengo's great victories with Rodolfo. A great friend. One of the most elegant people I've ever met," said the Flamengo director.
The wake will be held on Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 14 p.m., at the Memorial do Carmo in Caju. Governor Sérgio Cabral declared three days of official mourning and will name a state school in Rodolfo's honor.
