An exclusive interview with striker Adriano, "The Emperor," is the main attraction in the first issue of Flamengo's new official magazine. "I came to Flamengo thinking about regaining my happiness," says Adriano in the interview, which takes up six of the magazine's 1 pages. The magazine hits newsstands in Rio this Friday and will be distributed nationwide beginning next week. The price is R$68.
An initiative of Flamengo's Marketing Department, the magazine is licensed by Abril and produced by Sisal, which handles publications such as Duas Rodas. "The magazine is official, but the concept behind its development differs from most club magazines, which tend to be institutional. This magazine's editorial line is entirely geared toward meeting the interests of fans. Furthermore, its design is very contemporary, emphasizing emotion," says Ricardo Hinrichsen, Flamengo's Executive Director of Marketing.
According to editor Marcio Saldanha Marinho, the first step in planning the magazine was to analyze the best European soccer publications. "Benfica, Barcelona, Manchester—they all have 'magazines,' which served as a source of inspiration," explains the editor. Another highlight is the fact that the magazine's editorial board is entirely made up of professional fans of the club. "Only true Flamengo fans work here," Marinho emphasizes.
The magazine's launch event will be on Monday, October 19th, at 19 p.m., in the trophy room at Flamengo's headquarters in Gávea, Rio. Issue number 2 is already in production, scheduled for November.
Attractions of edition 1 – The magazine features a superposter with a photo of one of the Emperor's great goals. The Heroes section begins with the greatest idol in Flamengo's history, Zico. Prata da Casa presents the story of Matheus. Son of Bebeto, Brazilian champion with Flamengo in 1987, the 15-year-old is a left midfielder and plays number 10.
Another attraction is the Around the World section. The highlight is goalkeeper Júlio César, a starter for the Brazilian national team and now a three-time Italian champion with Inter Milan. Revealed at Gávea, the goalkeeper discusses his greatest experiences wearing the club's number 1 jersey.
The article in the Jogaço section discusses the emotions of the Flamengo 3-2 Atlético-MG match in 1980, when the club won its first Brazilian title. The article "This shirt weighs" attempts to explain why several former players, who even stand out at other clubs, feel the weight of the Sacred Mantle. The magazine has a series of other attractions, such as an exclusive text by columnist Arthur Muhlenberg (author of Urublog), a profile of the muse Roberta Porthela, and many photos in the Flagrante section.
