The release of a comic book about the history of Corinthians this Thursday was just Editora Globo's first foray into this field. The company is already preparing other similar works, all by cartoonist Ziraldo. The Flamengo version, which is ready, will be released at the Rio de Janeiro Book Biennial, scheduled to begin on September 10th. Like the book about Corinthians, the book focused on Flamengo will have a print run of 30 copies. The main difference between them is the theme: while the text released this Thursday capitalizes on the São Paulo club's 99th anniversary and tells its story, the version about the red-and-black team will focus on the fans. "We're going to extend it to other clubs. The idea is to convey that soccer is a healthy family activity, and that violence can be left aside. The books have educational content, but they present it in a fun way," explained Lúcia Machado, director of Editora Globo's children's products unit. Another difference between the Corinthians and Flamengo works is the mascot. Ziraldo developed a new character for the São Paulo club, Mosquetinho, and used him as the protagonist of the book. In the case of the Rio de Janeiro club, the partnership is limited to literary production. "We're talking to a number of clubs about developing similar projects, but some don't want to change the mascot. We already know it will be the same with Flamengo, as Cruzeiro has a set design," said Ziraldo, who is currently writing the third volume of the collection, focusing on Vasco. Because it's a new line, Editora Globo doesn't yet have a firm plan for how much it expects to raise from the sale of club-focused books. Likewise, the teams project institutional revenues above the royalties. |
