Flamengo takes 1981 exhibition to Vila Cruzeiro
In addition to historic trophies, the red-blacks of Complexo do Alemão were able to see idols of the past up close

Flamengo brought, this Saturday (02.07), for the first time, a bit of its history to the residents of Vila Cruzeiro, in Complexo do Alemão, North Zone of Rio. There, visitors were able to see up close the exhibition celebrating the 30th anniversary of the 1981 World Cup, as well as chat with idols of the generation such as Adílio, Julio César "Uri Gueller" and Nunes. Athletes from the red-and-black water polo team were also present.
Just like in several cities where the World Cup exhibition has already been held, the trophies from the 80 Brazilian Championship, the Libertadores and the 81 World Cup were displayed, as well as panels detailing the achievements of the "Golden Squadron", the club's other glories and explaining Flamengo's entire structure.
Born in poor communities, Adílio and Julio César could not hide their satisfaction in bringing red-and-black joy to the residents of Vila Cruzeiro and, especially, to the children.
"The ball is magical and the Flamengo shield elevates everything to the third power. It's very pleasurable and exciting to be part of this exhibition," said "Uri Gueller", followed by Adílio.
"The social work that Flamengo does is really cool and important. It touches everyone's heart."
A resident of the community for 23 years and a fanatical supporter of the Rubro-negro, Roberto Carlos Teixeira, vice-president of the Atitude Social project, where the exhibition was set up, was thrilled to see Flamengo's presence in Vila Cruzeiro.
"It's a huge thrill to have the biggest club in Brazil here. It's very gratifying to be able to bring a little bit of Flamengo to these kids. As a professional, it's a feeling of duty accomplished," he said.
Beatriz Brandão, the club's social responsibility coordinator, stated that Flamengo intends to be present throughout the city with exhibitions where Flamengo fans feel increasingly closer to the club.
"Flamengo has sought to bring a piece of the club to the nation, which has never happened before. We've never visited a poor community, for example. Our intention is for this to happen many times this year," he said, emphasizing that peacemaking was crucial for the visit.
