Flamengo takes traveling exhibition to Tasso da Silveira
Exhibition celebrating 30 years of the World Cup title was shown at the school where the Realengo massacre took place

A little over a month ago, the tragedy at the Tasso da Silveira school in Realengo captured the attention of all of Brazil. But beyond the sad memories, the reality at the educational institution is one of trying to move forward. Precisely to try to lessen the pain caused by the memories of that fateful April 7th, Flamengo brought the Flamengo Museum's traveling exhibition, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the 1981 World Cup victory, to students and teachers.
The red-black delegation, led by president Patricia Amorim and reinforced by basketball players Marcelinho and Teichmann, gymnasts Diego Hypólito, Sérgio Sasaki and Vitor Rosa, as well as the São Paulo Junior Cup champions Marlon, César, Rafinha and Paulo Henrique, arrived by surprise at Tasso da Silveira, causing a great commotion.
As soon as they spotted the Flamengo bus, students and teachers stopped their activities to welcome the red-and-blacks. First, Patricia Amorim made a point of calling the school principal, Luiz Marduque Vieira, and some teachers to thank them for the opportunity to continue bringing joy to the students of Tasso da Silveira.
"I would like to thank everyone involved, everyone who attended, and especially the students and teachers who welcomed us so warmly. This exhibition is traveling all over Brazil, and wherever Flamengo goes, it's nothing but joy. Whenever we can bring our fans closer to our history, we will do so," said the president of Flamengo, who gave a Ronaldinho Gaúcho jersey to the school's principal and also gave three others to be raffled off among the students, who were the main reason for Monday's event.
"We are always concerned about the good education of our children. That's exactly why we made a point of bringing some of our youth athletes here. Furthermore, we want to convey the message that it is possible to be a champion in life. I represent here more than 40 million hearts that embrace this school," said an emotional Patricia Amorim.
One of those responsible for the event, Tasso da Silveira, a Flamengo fan at heart, emphasized the opportunity to have the World Cup exhibition within the walls of the school, which has become synonymous with tragedy. Precisely for this reason, he believes that actions like this make the lives of everyone who works and studies there better.
"We prefer to keep this event a secret to avoid further disruption. We, who experienced the tragedy firsthand, don't fully grasp the full extent of what happened. We're living through terrible times, and we're trying to move forward as best we can. We have 1.100 students, and we're trying to continue our routine, restoring the joy of coming to school to these children. I'm very grateful to Flamengo for helping with this process," Luiz explained.
One of the survivors of the tragedy, 14-year-old Douglas Lima Farias, was in one of the classrooms attacked by the maniac. A little over a month later, he also remarked on the opportunity to have happy days in a place that had previously been marked by sad news. He also revealed that he had become a Flamengo fan.
"An event like this helps take the focus off the tragedy. It's still talked about a lot around here, and it makes us very sad to remember everything. I wasn't a Flamengo fan, but I'm a Flamengo fan starting today," said Douglas.
Stars, accustomed to the affection of fans wherever they go, Flamengo's athletes also seemed quite emotional about Monday's meeting.
"It's very important for these children to feel embraced. This initiative by Flamengo is really cool. It's even cooler for us, as we can bring smiles to their faces. I always think it's very important to be close to children. It's worth trying to make them understand that good things can also happen in their lives," said Marcelinho, followed by Diego Hypolito.
"I really enjoyed bringing a little happiness to these children. It's really cool to show them a little of our successful history, making them dream of a better future," said the gymnast.
Representing the youth team athletes, goalkeeper Cesar did not shy away from his club teammates' speech.
"These smiles are priceless. It's so good to come here and receive all this affection," he concluded.
