Goalkeeper Marcelo, 17, and a member of Flamengo's junior team, completed the Brazilian national team's training session at Gávea Stadium on Monday. Because Julio Cesar, Flamengo's regular starter for four years, was rested for much of the session, the young player was one of the teams that participated in a reduced-size training session.

The National Team faces Ecuador next Thursday in the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers and trained at the Gávea Stadium this Monday.

Marcelo, who played in this year's U-17 World Cup—held in South Korea between August and September—made some good saves in training and greatly impressed Wendell, the national team's goalkeeping coach. At the end of the session, Julio Cesar and the goalkeeping coach came to give the youngster some advice.

The player also participated in the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, in July, when he was a starter for the team managed by Lucho Nizzo.
