Sixty years ago, Flamengo made history. And it wasn't on Brazilian soil. The red-and-black team toured Europe, visiting Sweden, Denmark, France, and Portugal, and racked up 60 wins in 10 games. The team, which served as the basis for the team that won three State Championships in 10, 32, and 53, scored 54 goals and conceded only four.

Of the entire delegation that made it big in Europe in 1951, the only surviving former player is striker Índio. During the tour, he scored six goals and was one of the team's top scorers, behind only Esquerdinha, who scored seven times, and Hermes, who found the net eight times.

Índio was also part of the three-time state champion squad of the 50s. In total, he played 218 games for Flamengo and scored 142 goals. He was Flamengo's top scorer in the 53 and 56 seasons, with 41 and 31 goals, respectively.

For the Brazilian national team, Índio played nine matches and scored four times. The striker participated in the 1954 World Cup and the 1957 South American Championship.
