Exactly 70 years ago, Narciso Horacio Doval was born in Buenos Aires. To the nation, he was simply Doval, a striker who tormented opposing defenses in the first half of the 1970s while wearing the Sacred Mantle.

For the Most Beloved, "the most Carioca Argentine who ever existed", he has an extensive list of trophies: Carioca Championship (1972 and 1974), Guanabara Cup (1970, 1972 and 1973), 3rd round of the Carioca Championship (1974), Summer International Tournament (1970), People's Tournament (1972), Goiás Quadrangular Tournament (1975) and Jundiaí Quadrangular Tournament (1975). In 263 games, Doval scored 94 goals, which made him Flamengo's main star during his time at the club, from 1969 to 1971 and then from 1972 to 1975.

In the 1972 Carioca, the Argentine was the competition's top scorer, with 16 goals, including the final goal against Fluminense, in a 2-1 victory. This title was very important for the club, as the Mais Querido had not won the State Championship for seven years. 

His adaptation to Rio de Janeiro earned the player an honorary citizenship. Considered one of the most successful foreigners in Brazilian football, he finished third in a 2001 poll by Placar magazine to elect the best foreign player in the Brazilian Championship, behind only Chilean Figueroa and Uruguayan Pedro Rocha. And no wonder: El Loco is the foreign player who has scored the most goals for Flamengo. Among all players who have worn the Flamengo jersey, he is the 24th-highest scorer.

Sadly, Doval passed away far too young, at the age of 47, due to a heart attack. The Argentine who knew how to play with the ball passed away on Children's Day in 1991, leaving a deep longing in the hearts of Flamengo fans, whom he considered supernatural: "Playing for Flamengo is simply fascinating. This story that the Flamengo jersey runs on its own, dribbles, and scores goals is more than a story, it's a truth. These are people who win games in the stands. Their cry is a battle cry, pushing the player forward. The Flamengo fans are a miracle."
