Sanctioned in 2007, by the then mayor of Rio, the date honors the red-black nation on the day of Flamengo's Patron Saint

In October 2007, during Flamengo's run in the Brazilian championship, then-mayor Cesar Maria signed a law honoring the club's fans. Since then, October 28th has been celebrated as "Flamengo Fan's Day." The date, not coincidentally the same as the club's patron saint, Saint Jude Thaddeus, became part of the city's official calendar. The bill was introduced by Councilman Jorge Mauro.
Also in 2007, Flamengo opened the São Judas Tadeu Chapel at its headquarters. The religious space is located on the same avenue as the Boca Maldita, behind the Fadel Fadel Aquatic Park in Gávea.
